[Bug 226397] [NEW] fan never turns off

2008-05-04 Thread nfusi
Public bug reported:

I have a HP zd7395ea laptop, running on a P4 3.6ghz cpu.

Linux xx 2.6.24-17-generic #1 SMP Thu May 1 14:31:33 UTC 2008 i686
GNU/Linux

Even after a cold start, the fan starts up and does not turn off until I
shutdown. The cpu temp after a cold start should be 43 C, but it's actually 56
C.
This problem does not happen with the previous kernel (2.6.22) or windows, it
happens only with the hardy kernel (2.6.24-17).

Turning off acpi (by passing acpi=off at boot) solves the problem.
I have experienced this bug even with a vanilla 2.6.24 kernel.

Steps to reproduce: turn on the laptop, wait until the kernel is loaded

** Affects: linux (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

[Bug 210902] Re: High CPU Temperature

2008-04-28 Thread nfusi
In my case this bug could be the consequence of an other bug I'm experiencing
(#204996).
Random processes take the cpu to the maximum for extended periods of time,
that's why it runs hot.

[Bug 210902] Re: High CPU Temperature

2008-04-26 Thread nfusi
I can confirm the bug.
I use a 2.6.24-16 generic kernel (SMP) on a Pentium IV 3.6ghz laptop.

With the 2.6.24-16-generic kernel my cpu runs at 57 degrees Celsius
With the older 2.6.22-16-generic kernel my cpu runs at 43 degrees Celsius
(temperatures taken right after boot)

The load does not justify the difference in temperature
load average: 0.16, 0.35, 0.32

[Bug 160245] Re: evolution-addressbook-export crashes

2008-03-15 Thread nfusi
I am affected by this bug on three different machines.
On my systems the bug does not crash the program, it will simply make it
stuck. The error given is:

 (evolution-addressbook-export:14542): GLib-CRITICAL **: g_strv_length:
assertion `str_array != NULL' failed

A backtrace with debugging symbols enabled is attached (please note that
i had to issue a SIGINT)
