[Bug 105232] Re: Kodak USB connection stalls

2007-04-12 Thread nukedathlonman
Found a posting on Ubuntuforums
(http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=2428352) and I can now
retrieve photo's from my camera after editing
/etc/udev/rules.d/45-libgphoto2.rules

However the transfers are still extremely slow with lot's of transfer
stall messages.

The main connection issue is a duplicate of bug 67532; my bad for not
catching that sooner.

[Bug 105232] Kodak USB connection stalls

2007-04-10 Thread nukedathlonman
Public bug reported:

I haven't been able to exactly pin point if this is a software/driver or
hardware bug. When I first switched over to Kubuntu Edgy (from Windoze)
in Dec I had no issues hooking up my camera to transfer picuters, but
when I'd start transfering pictures it would get really slow (45 minutes
to transfer 200 pictures that would have transfered in about 8 minutes
with the dark side OS) with KDE showing the USB connection stalling
during the copy process. Now, it takes 5 minutes to hook up the camera
and always results with no connection with the camera. I'm at work, so
I don't have access to further information at present time - I can
provide further info later today. The computer is an Acer Aspire
AS5002WLMi, and is based on the 760 SiS chipset.

All other USB devices I've plugged in work 100% perfectly except for
portable MP3 (media) players; though I'm very sure it's not a related
problem though. (Breif description of that is they work only on inital
connection requiring me to re-start X if I disconnect them and re-
connect them at a later time; else they need to be remounted manualy
from a terminal if X is not re-started - I haven't researched that
problem yet (suspect is HAL), so I haven't/won't post it as a bug untill
I do the proper research first).

Same problem happening to me (Kubuntu Edgy) with every MP3 player I've
tried to date. Sorry, can't provide more details right now - I will be
back to provide the requested info when I get home from work.

[Bug 105232] Re: Kodak USB connection stalls

2007-04-10 Thread nukedathlonman
Okay, I don't have a gvm.log file. I don't have a udev.log because when
I typed in sudo udevmonitor -e | tee udev.log, just a 0 byte file showed
up (waited a good 2 minutes before I broke out of it). I don't have a
devices.txt file either (0 byte file like above). I'm using Kubuntu
6.10 Edgy with Linux Kernel 2.6.17-11 Generic (standard 32-bit x86
kernel). Here is my dmesg output

[Bug 105232] Re: Kodak USB connection stalls

2007-04-10 Thread nukedathlonman
The only other note on this is the error message I get in KDE is beside
the green dot in Konqueror window that open upon powering the device is
the word STALLED and when it finally decides it's not communicating, I
then get a dialog box that says Could not read file Could not claim USB
device. with only an Okay button.

Oh, the grammatical error in the message is not my bad typing, that's
exactly how it appeared. :-)

2007-04-10 Thread nukedathlonman
Okay, I didn't mention, I'm using Kubuntu 6.10 Edgy with Linux Kernel
2.6.17-11 Generic (standard 32-bit x86) on an Acer Aspire AS5002WLMi
laptop. The media player I'm using is a Sandisk Sansa e250 (I bought
this after borowing and testing several MP3 players from freinds). As
I'm using KDE instead of Gnome, I don't have gvm.log files. I did the
capturing twice in hopes that we cn all see what happens on the second
connection vs the firt connection that works.

I'll begin with the initial connection...

[Bug 74036] Re: Oops in scsi_mod and usbstorage

2007-04-10 Thread nukedathlonman
As said, it works the first time it's plugged in. If (after
disconnecting it that first time) I re-start X it will work as the
original connection (and that is a repeated cycle). The other option
that works well is to open a terminal and mount it manually every time I
subsequently plug in the MP3 Player (that's a bit annoying, but faster
then restarting X all the time). I don't have problems like this with
flash memory sticks, or problems with nearly any other USB device.

Well, the other problematic USB device I have is a Kodak Z7590 reported
under bug 105232; but I do not believe this problem is related to that
one.
