@Fibonacci It has nothing to do with the window manager (metacity, compiz, whatever) because it's the kernel. It's blocking the sysrq key permeating to the rest of the system. [Bug 524179] Re: Left-clicking on taskbar icon for transmission brings up the right-click menu
I can't believe some of these comments. Every other application that has both Notification-Area and Indicator- Applet icons (Banshee, Liferea, Gwibber, Pidgin, etc) still support left/right clicking. Left click should toggle visibility. Right click should show the menu. If you want to give it Indicator-Applet behaviour, give it its own Indicator Applet but failover to Notification-Area (like all the other good apps do) so people who don't need or want Indicator-Applet confusing and breaking their tray experience don't have to go without an icon. -- Left-clicking on taskbar icon for transmission brings up the right-click menu https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/524179 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 642792] Re: ALT+PrtSc not recognised: breaks built-in screenshot function
Martin Pitt: > Do you have proof (or a patch) which would actually identify this as a kernel change? The only proof I had was anecdotal: I started using 2.6.35 on Lucid long before upgrading to Maverick. Alt-PrintScreen was broken back then, before any of Maverick's X changes were near my system. But if the patch by Dmitry Torokhov is the cause of this behavioural change (which it does look like it could be - it's making sysrq bypass evdev), we need to nail down the rationale (if it was intended) or blindly counter the patch... I can't see there being enough time to send this upstream, get a fix and get it back through trunk into maverick before release. -- ALT+PrtSc not recognised: breaks built-in screenshot function https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/642792 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 642792] Re: ALT+PrtSc not recognised: breaks built-in screenshot function
If alt+prscr is really rendering a sysrq event, it would appear that sysrq is not a bindable event. I can't get it to show up in anything (including xev). While I can see the technical argument for making alt trigger the alternate key, the solution in the latest kernel is at least 10 years too late. There is too much documentation and too much "known behaviour" to try (or want) to reverse things now without upsetting everybody who expects a windowshot from an alt+prscr combo. It's also well known that if you want sysrq, you use control+alt+prscr. I assume this key-combo is also broken now (or it renders as control+sysrq). Everything about this stinks to me and I think we should fight upstream all the way on this, disabling the new kernel configuration by default. -- ALT+PrtSc not recognised: breaks built-in screenshot function https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/642792 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 568241] Re: Rhythmbox does not see my Ipodtouch 32go
Was having this same problem for a while on my 64 bit system. It worked fine on my netbook and on someone else's 32 bit ubuntu setup. It seems to have started working after reinstalling "gvfs-backends" I'm not sure if that is what fixed it as I was trying many things, including trying other programs to attempt to connect to it. However, It did start working right after reinstalling that package. Before reinstalling, the touch would not appear under ~/.gvfs/ Right after reinstalling, it showed up in that folder after re-plugging the ipod. After restarting rhythmbox, it worked. ### Again, my problem was the same as the OP. [Bug 609827] Re: Tray icon doesn't show anymore in 1.6.3
I'm fed up of Ubuntu patches just wiping out perfectly good Notification Area icons. Notification Area is currently more functional and easier to use than the "space saving" Indicator Applet. I've got 3840px of screen width; I don't need to save space! [Bug 15495] Re: "Archive Manager" doesn't mean anything if you don't know what an "archive" is
I do not think that we should simply use a particular term just because it is understood by users of a particular operating system: as has already been mentioned above, Windows and OSX use different terminologies anyway. I prefer the idea of using our own expressive terminology, ideally something that a complete novice to computer systems in general might grasp intuitively. As such I would suggest using the terms "group" (or "bunch"?) and "compress" (or "squish"?) in a context-sensitive manner. For example, right clicking on a single file could offer the option to "Compress this file...", whilst right clicking on a selection of multiple files would offer something along the lines of "Group and/or compress these files..." (or "Bunch and squish these files..."?). -- "Archive Manager" doesn't mean anything if you don't know what an "archive" is https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/15495 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is a direct subscriber. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 509342] [NEW] two minute delay "starting up"
Public bug reported: When my computer starts up now there is a two minute delay while the words "starting up" are displayed on the screen. I think that this coincided with a new motherboad, rather than a kernel update. The system is 64bit Ubuntu Jaunty (9.04). It happens often but not always; the last time it booted I tried to remove "quiet splash" from the grub menu and it started up normally. On the advice of the forum (http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1351511) I have installed bootchart and attached the output of a delayed boot - one can see that everything is squashed up on the right hand side. Re: [Bug 437749] Re: Ubuntu should ship wine with the wine-pulse patches
*I *don't think it should be the default selection. I've sung its praises but I'm sure it doesn't work for everybody in all circumstances. But It does help *some* people *some* times. We should give them the option without them having to use an outdated PPA or making them compile it in themselves. Does it break anything? I don't believe so... I can't really say more than "works for me". These (the patches and Wine) are two entities moving in slightly different directions at different speeds so I guess there's always scope for the patch to stop working down the line (as there is with almost every Ubuntu patch applied to upstream projects) but the developer looks like he's trying to keep things working within Wine's framework. Hopefully progress in Wine will replace the need for the patch in time but we'll see. -- Ubuntu should ship wine with the wine-pulse patches https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/437749 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

There are downsides to it and they basically don't want to maintain another sound system. They think ossp and/or gstreamer will fix all the problems in time, allowing them to drop all-but-one sound system. It sounds like a perfect scenario but we're an unknown number of months away from being at that point and people want working audio yesterday, not when Wine get around to improving their sound framework or we have a usable ossp framework (and the know-how to use it). -- Ubuntu should ship wine with the wine-pulse patches https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/437749 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 426366] Re: system freezes when deploying multiple times a portlet
looks like this is a jvm (bad garbage collector) problem some people said i should reduce the perm gen space to prevent the system to crash, others said i should rise it when i rise it: everything works but much much slower... and slower... until the system freezes when i decrease it: everything works up to 2-3 deployments, sometimes 4, then glassfish crashes and i have to restart it, but no problem with the system i think this bug can be closed as invalid because its the sun jvm -- system freezes when deploying multiple times a portlet https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/426366 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 437749] [NEW] Ubuntu should ship wine with the wine-pulse patches
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: wine1.2 As Ubuntu wants to push Pulseaudio so hard, it makes sense to ship wine with the option to use Pulseaudio directly. As it stands, there is a collection of patches which adds another audio- driver: http://art.ified.ca/?page_id=40 I'm suggesting that Wine be built with these patches applied so that people can choose the Pulseaudio sink if that suits them best. This has been brought up multiple times with the Wine project directly and they refuse to ship it (for various reasons, some more valid than others). It's based on an older driver so isn't elegant; it hacks around a few things and a few things don't work... But it currently works (for me and others) a lot better than using its ALSA driver. It shouldn't be the default driver but it should be there so people with Wine audio issues can try it for sweet relief. I'm applying the patches to this bug but they can (and probably should) be downloaded directly from the art.ified.ca project site as linked above. [Bug 435988] [NEW] Main menu icon is too big
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: tangerine-icon-theme When using the Human icon theme, the panel is the correct height. When I switch to Tangerine, it is forced to grow to accommodate the menu applet icon. It looks especially bad as I have two screens, each with a panel but only one has the Menu applet, so they're different heights. ** Affects: tangerine-icon-theme (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Main menu icon is too big https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/435988 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 403135] Re: Notification area icon wrongly rendered/has a black background (multiple apps)
liferea, banshee and pidgin all show as grey backgrounds on my semi- transparent panel. Looks very unpolished. This is something that has happened in previous alphas and has subsequently been fixed. I'd be tempted to point the finger at gnome (and the way it handles icons) rather than the individual apps... But I could be wrong. It'd be nice if somebody who knows how these things work could get involved and tag this bug under the corresponding gnome project. -- Notification area icon wrongly rendered/has a black background (multiple apps) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/403135 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
