In 14.04 LTS, my unity dash omits the letter s (lower case), but it
does show the capitals S. Please see the attachment (Screenshot.png).
In that attachment, I typed Screenshot into the unity dash.

[Bug 1057263] Re: gtk-window-decorator leaks large numbers of pixmaps and pixmap memory

2015-01-15 Thread positivek
The bug still exists in 14.04.1 LTS:

Distributor ID: Ubuntu
Description:Ubuntu 14.04.1 LTS

Below is a copy of my xrestop including the gtk-window-decorator. The
Pxms counter would increase by about 6 each time I alt-Tab back and
forth to another window. The Pxm mem would also increase. Neither over
level off or decrease. So, this bug still exists and the leak makes me
have to close my session every day or two. I'm running out of what
should be plentiful memory.

[Bug 827818] Re: Runaway memory usage in gtk-window-decorator

2015-01-15 Thread positivek
My gtk-window-decorator regularly climbs to 500 MB and I end up swapping
a lot with other programs running. Alt-Tab between windows increases the
use. Basically, I get around 1 MB added to the total memory used by gtk-
window-decorator for each time I Alt-Tab between windows (as observed by
System Monitor's). No end in sight in terms of chomping more (leaking
more?) memory.

[Bug 1384389] [NEW] Evince back and forward buttons does not keep last position when scrolling

2014-10-22 Thread positivek
Public bug reported:

Scrolling in Evince does not seem to set the last location when using
internal hyperlinks and Backward and Forward buttons.

1. Scroll to a place in the document where there is an internal link /
hyperlink that links to another place in the document.

2. Click the internal link to go to another part of document.

3. Click Back button to try to get back to my original scrolled
position.

4. BUG: I am taken somewhere else in the document instead of the
location of where I clicked the hyperlink.

[Bug 1384391] [NEW] Evince Forward button not available after clicking Back

2014-10-22 Thread positivek

[Bug 1364697] [NEW] Control + Backspace eats too much text

2014-09-02 Thread positivek
Public bug reported:

I use Control + Backspace to delete chunks of text separated by spaces.
However, Gedit does not seem to recognize strings of -- (or other
non-word chunks of text) as a chunk. As a result, the non-word chunk
and the word chunk preceding it will be deleted.

Example: In a new Gedit blank text file, type Enter, Enter,
hello, Enter, Enter, Enter, - , space, space,
space.

Then, suppose we want to delete that chunk that is 4 # signs. Press
Control + Backspace.

BUG: Everything back through the beginning of hello is deleted.

Expected: Only the should be deleted.

ALSO: This problem occurs when using Control + [ARROW KEY] to navigate
by text chunk. Strings of symbols are ignored.

I think spaces next to symbols should be seen as Control+ boundaries.

[Bug 1001842] Re: No Audio from HDMI After Switching Monitor Off / On

2014-08-14 Thread positivek
On Ubuntu 14.04.1 LTS, another workaround is to go to the Display

For example, set to a lower resolution and then let it time out (do not
accept the changes). The HDMI Play sound through option is then
available in the sound settings again.

[Bug 1311918] [NEW] Scale / Expose plugin should keep relative window sizing

2014-04-23 Thread positivek
Public bug reported:

The Scale plugin (the one like Expose on Mac) should retain the
relative window sizes when it arranges and shows them all to the user.
Presently, it does not; presently, when I initiate compiz scale, the
windows are each scaled by a different factor during their arrangement.

When window switching, I think I use the window size (especially when
choosing among several similar windows) to find it quickly. When they
are all scaled at different factors, it makes it harder to tell them
apart.

Use case: I use one terminal window to find and run a program (not
backgrounded). I make this small so I can see latest output but I don't
need to interact with it. Another terminal is used for navigating
directories and using a version control system and building code. When
I use scale, both of these windows shows up roughly equally sized and
find it hard to tell them apart (since they both are much smaller in
scale and the text all looks like the same terminal output).

Wishlist: Use an algorithm perhaps closer to the Mac one that keeps
the relative sizes of windows about the same (if not exactly).

(A bonus would be an algorithm that also somehow maintains their
approximate relative positions on the screen/desktop/workspace.)

[Bug 206837] Re: Gedit text area has small gap between edge of text area and edge of window

2013-10-10 Thread positivek
Gedit 3.6.2, maximized, at the right edge:
* right mouse button acts as old middle mouse button: It brings the scroll bar
slider handle to it instantly and you can scroll up and down by holding down
the RMB and moving it. Works fine and mostly as expected.
* middle mouse button does nothing (but it can be used to grab the slider when
away from the very edge of screen).
* left mouse button will initiate a pagedown when clicked anywhere below the
top edge of the slider handle. It will pageup when clicked above the top edge
of the slider handle. Holding it down will initiate multiple page movements in
the direction of the first paging, until released.

On the whole, the mouse behavior seems workable again.

[Bug 588982] Re: Locked touchpad drags do not work on Lucid 10.04

2012-12-12 Thread positivek
I have Xubuntu, 12.04 (precise), running on a Sony Vaio VGN-NW230G, with
Alps PS/2 GlidePoint. Using the touchpad only.

The 1.5 tap to drag works *only* when there is *motion* during the
second tap, but does *not* work when you do an in-place (no motion) 1.5
tap. The 2.5 tap in-place and with-motion does work, however. Summary
I've found is below.

PROBLEM: Use case #3 should be handled if case #1 is handled. So, if
you solve case #1, case #3 remain working. Case #1 is very important
for any graphics work, as well as gaming, or even simple window
management. Case #1 is the easiest of the tap-to-drag motions, but is
the one that is not working.

CASE #1:
1.5 tap in-place means: finger-down, finger-up, finger-down (no horiz/vert
motion in finger during the finger-down).

  - BUG: This does not register at all (like nothing happened). Use
case is where you want to move a graphic item by some small amount from
it's current position. You should be able to initiate the drag (locked
drag?) without any motion, and then start dragging after the object has
been grabbed. Currently I cannot.

CASE #2:
2.5 tap in-place means: finger-down, finger-up, finger-down, finger-up,
finger-down (no horiz/vert motion in finger during the finger-down).

 - OK: This works. Use case is where you want to select text by whole
words.

CASE #3:
1.5 tap with-motion means: finger-down, finger-up, slide-finger (with
horiz/vert motion during finger-down).

 - OK: This works. Use case is same as case #1, except that the user is
hurrying or does not care about small relative position change for
dragged item.

CASE #4:
2.5 tap with-motion means: finger-down, finger-up, finger-down, finger-up,
slide-finger (with horiz/vert motion during finger-down).

 - OK: This works. Use case is same as #2, but more rushed.

[Bug 884621] Re: Scrollbars for maximized windows do not obey Fitts law

2012-03-22 Thread positivek
So, is there any way to make scrollbars to consistently work with the
right edge? Is there a theme change I can do? Or window manage tweak?

Is there agreement that right-edge access to the maximized windows'
scrollbars is best? Is there agreement that rounded ends to the
scrollbar decorations is less of a priority than the Fitts rule
adherence? (Personally, I believe the right-edge behavior more
important than scrollbar themes/decorations.)

Thanks!

--

Note, on Xubuntu 11.10, using greybird theme and Totem style, I
identified different levels of Fitts rule compliance for a few selected
applications:

Best: On right edge, scrollbar handle can be dragged with primary mouse button
or middle button anywhere, arrow buttons clickable, zones above/below handle
activate PageUp/PageDown.
 - Chromium browser 17.0.963.79 (note, probably uses non-standard scrollbars)

Almost there: On right edge, PageUp and PageDown come from primary mouse button
down, handle drag comes from middle button anywhere.
 - Gedit 3.2.3
 - Xfce Terminal Emulator 0.4.8
 - Gnumeric Spreadsheet 1.10.17

Not at all:
 - Leafpad 0.8.17
 - Firefox 11.0
 - abiword 2.8.6
 - Thunar 1.2.3
 - Evince Document Viewer 3.2.1
 - LibreOffice Writer 3.4.4 OOO340m1

[Bug 206837] Re: Gedit text area has small gap between edge of text area and edge of window

2012-03-21 Thread positivek
Almost there...

On Xfce4.8... and Gedit 3.2.3, I cannot GRAB or DRAG the scrollbar.
However, on a mouse button down along the right edge of the screen on a
maximized Gedit window, the app will PageUp / PageDown depending on
where I click (mouse down).

But the standard, expected full control of the scrollbar (i.e. drag) is
not there.

On a long document, try scrolling to the bottom so it cannot page down.
Now bring the mouse to the right edge, but somewhere along the drag
handle. Expected: Holding down mouse will cause drag handle to change
color (e.g. darken) and allow dragging. Actual: Drag handle does not
change color, and no dragging is initiated.

I should add to comment 13 that MIDDLE mouse click/drag works as
expected and consistent with other apps: scrollbar is taken to the mouse
position and drags as long as middle mouse button is held down.

[Bug 25529] Re: Opening a tab causes the scrollbar to grow a border

2012-03-21 Thread positivek
Almost there...

On Xfce4.8... and Epiphany 3.0.4 and Gedit 3.2.3, I cannot GRAB or DRAG
the scrollbar with the primary mouse button. However, on a mouse button
down along the right edge of the screen on a maximized Epiphany or Gedit
window, the app will PageUp / PageDown depending on where I click (mouse
down).

But the standard, expected full control of the scrollbar (i.e. drag) is
not there.

On a long document, try scrolling to the bottom so it cannot page down.
Now bring the mouse to the right edge, but somewhere along the drag
handle.

Expected: Without pressing button, the scrollbar handle should darken
slightly to show the mouse is over it. Then holding down mouse will
cause drag handle to change color (e.g. darken more) and allow dragging.

Actual: Mouse over (at edge) does not change handle color. Drag handle
does not change color. No dragging is initiated.

I should add that MIDDLE mouse click/drag works as expected and consistent with
other apps: scrollbar is taken to the mouse position and drags as long as
middle mouse button is held down.

Sorry, comment 6 behavior is for when there is only ONE tab.

MULTIPLE tabs on Epiphany Browser 3.0.4 still has the no-op border:
right edge mouse does not do anything with the scrolling at all.

[Bug 883284] [NEW] maximus: maximized windows disregard Xfwm's disabled raise on click

2011-10-28 Thread positivek
Public bug reported:

Using Xubuntu 11.10.
Turned off the Raise on click option in the Settings--Window Manager--Focus
settings.
Running maximus 0.4.14-1ubuntu5.

I have a maximized window and a smaller window above it. When I click
on the background window, it comes to the front (Raises), even though
it is not supposed to. I expect that it would just stay put, as it
should with the raise-on-click turned off.

[Bug 436066] Re: Human theme vertical scroolbars have borders on maximized windows

Does this happen when using gnome-terminal, by the way?

FYI, I found a bug in Gnome's bugzilla that refers to Maximized scroll
bar against screen edge:
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=387139

Looks like other possible sources of this kind of issue might be the
Application, Gtk, metacity, in addition to the Theme.

I think this is a duplicate (or replicate) of bug 25529. Yet it seems
that https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=123408 is a potential
root of the problems.

It seems that various users are reporting the same issue with several

[Bug 721465] [NEW] wishlist: Gedit tabs could scroll smoothly to more easily track and switch

2011-02-18 Thread positivek
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gedit

Open gedit.
Open, say four or five files with long filenames in tabs.
Make the window narrow enough so that some file's tabs are not visible.
Use the mouse scroll wheel on the tabs to move between them.

ISSUE: Because
  - gedit's tabs don't show partially, and
  - switching to tab left or tab right is not smoothly animated,
it make it difficult to use the visuo-spatial benefit of tabs to locate the
open file you are interested in. If there was smooth scrolling (animated,
rather than abrupt) and allowed partial (visually clipped) tab display, I would
not overscroll past the desired document as much, and I would remember which
direction (left or right) the document I want to switch to is.

With a window narrower than enough to accommodate the number of files
(tabs) I have open, there seems to be little benefit to having tabs at
present. I might as well just have a little box/region where scrolling
the mouse cycles through files until I find the right one (or use the
Documents menu). Only if the true spatial idea is conveyed meaningfully
will the user be able to take advantage of the metaphor of spatially
arranged tabs.

[Bug 684610] [NEW] xfce keyboard switcher does not remember added keyboards

2010-12-03 Thread positivek
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xfce4-xkb-plugin

Also mentioned here:
http://.ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1356945 (Dec 2009)

Keyboarb switcher panel applet does not retain the keyboard I add during
a normal Xfce session.

1) I added the keyboard applet to a panel
2) The applet stays put after restarts. Fine, normal.
3) I right-click it and go to Properties.
4) I Add a new keyboard layout (US wit Euro on 5).
5) Manage layout as Globally.
6) I close the properties window and go about my business. Great.
7) The keyboard switcher works as expected (i.e. really great tool).
8) I shutdown the computer and boot later.
9) I go to change my keyboard layout temporarily for my friend to type and BUG:
There's only the single, original keyboard layout available. No switching.
It's as if I never added the additional layout. I have to re-add it each time
I log in...

[Bug 659611] [NEW] Complete Uninstall does not remove all files

2010-10-12 Thread positivek
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gedit-latex-plugin

I was trying to use the latest release of the plugin and therefore
uninstalled the one provided in the Ubuntu repositories, but the
complete uninstall did not remove the old gedit-latex-plugin files in
the gedit/plugins directory.

1) Install gedit-latex-plugin via Synaptic
2) Verify that LaTeX plugin is available in the gedit plugins list (within
Gedit Preferences).
3) Verify that the plugins dir has the GeditLaTeXPlugin: prompt$ ls -l
.gnome2/gedit/plugins/
...
GeditLaTeXPlugin
...
4) Close Gedit
5) Use Synaptic to do complete removal of gedit-latex-plugin.
6) Verify that Gedit no longer lists the plugin as available for use (good!).
7) BUG: The plugins dir still has the files: prompt$ ls -l
.gnome2/gedit/plugins/
...
GeditLaTeXPlugin
...

Probably all files should be removed, right?

managed to double-click just longer than the time it took to
(un)maximize the window, the mouse cursor briefly turned to a hand (as
reported). Importantly, the time required to double-click to select a
word, for example, was longer than for the title bar (as reported).

I just had a thought: what if there's some code that's also looking out
for click+drag from the TOUCHPAD that's being used (poorly) in tandem
with detecting normal double clicks?

@Charlie Kravetz: Are you unable to reproduce on a normal desktop
machine? Or do you have a laptop? I have a laptop that has a built-in
touchpad that's always on, AFAIK. Perhaps the title-bar click+drag
detection prempts (with a different threshold?) normal double-click
detection when running on a machine with a touchpad. Something of this
sort might explain why the cursor turns to a hand when I double-click
too long for the title-bar, but _probably_ still within the normal
double-click speed.

[Bug 393672] Re: [xfce]Double click title bar actions use different speed than text selection

2010-03-21 Thread positivek
Note also: The same (bug) behavior occurs when I ALT+double-click a
window. It seems that it's supposed to act as if I am clicking the
title bar, and therefore inherits this bug with the title bar. That is,
the ALT+double-click time required is faster than a normal, text-
selection double-click time required.

[Bug 481683] Re: [xfce] Firefox raises and focuses with Right Mouse Button (RMB) when raise on click is disabled

2010-03-21 Thread positivek
Hi,

Regardless of the Firefox preference settings you mentioned, the bug
still exists for me. Bear in mind that the bug shows up without
actually performing any actions in firefox, other than simply a single
right-click (not even choosing from the context menu).

Other applications (e.g. terminal, Evince) do NOT gain focus when right-
clicked, the do NOT get brought to front. If they have a right-click
context menu, the menu IS drawn, however. This would be my expected
behaviour, I think.

I am using default xfce window manager, compiz/compositing is turned off.
Raise on click is turned off.
Running Xubuntu, 9.10, Karmic, 64-bit.
Linux machname 2.6.31-20-generic #57-Ubuntu SMP Mon Feb 8 09:02:26 UTC 2010

 + Focus:
   - Focus model: Click to focus
   - New window focus: Either (Automatically give new window focus or not)
   - Raise on focus: NOT raise on focus

Hope this helps!

[Bug 33288] Re: Evince doesn't handle columns properly

2009-12-09 Thread positivek
It seems that there are TWO bugs being discussed in this ONE lp bug
report:

 * Original bug does not mention anything about selection, only PASTE. This
suggests a problem with the format of text that already has been selected.
Pasting tables cells in strange order, Bug#: 3188 (
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=3188 )

 * Later (e.g. comment #7), a SELECTION bug is mentioned.
selection expands in unexpected ways, Bug#: 4006 (
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=4006 )

Also, the duplicates of this bug mention these two types of issues
separately as well.

I can't seem to add the 4006 bug to the watcher on this.

[Bug 484559] [NEW] Xubuntu: Cannot change own password because users-admin needs gnome-about-me

2009-11-17 Thread positivek
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-system-tools

I have a relatively newly installed Xubuntu 9.10 installation, no weird
modifications, has updates. I tried using the Xubuntu main menu's Users
and Groups to change my password, but it will not let me. It seems that
gnome-about-me is missing, even though it is required for me to change
my password.

Reproduce:
1. Install Xubuntu 9.10 with first-password.
2. Xfce main menu -- System -- Users and Groups
3. Unlock using Click to make changes
4. Click Properties for my username
5. Click Change Password...
6. BUG: Nothing happens. No new windows pop up. Nothing. Inability to change
password.

- additional info -
I tried starting Users and Groups by running users-admin on the command
line. When I click Change Password..., the following error is output:
WARNING **: Error spawning gnome-about-me: Failed to execute child process
gnome-about-me (No such file or directory)

See screenshot.

I checked in Synaptic: It seems that the gnome-about package is not
installed. It seems that gnome-about should be installed by default in
the xubuntu installation, since it's attempting to use it for changing
my own password. This could probably be done by making the package that
includes users-admin depend on gnome-about-me. I'm not sure how the
packaging works...

[Bug 481683] [NEW] [xfce] Firefox raises and focuses with Right Mouse Button (RMB) when raise on click is disabled

2009-11-12 Thread positivek
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xfwm4

On Xubuntu 9.10, I turned raise on click to off. This works as expected
with most applications _except_ when I right-mouse-click on an unfocused
FF window. In that case, FF pops to front.

Reproduce:
1. Install Xubuntu 9.10
2. In my X session, I go to panel's Applications menu--Settings--Window
Manager
3. Choose the Focus tab.
4. Turn off Raise on click (uncheck it)
5. Open a Firefox window.
6. Open Thunar or Terminal or Mousepad or Gnumeric (etc.) and make it a smaller
window that is on top of or in front of FF.
7. Give the smaller app the focus and make in front.
8. RMB click on FF.
BUG: Firefox window is given focus _and_ is raised to front.
Expected: No window focus should occur. No bring to front should occur.

--- additional information ---

* I only experience this problem when right-clicking FF when _another_ app
initially has the focus.
* The bug does _not_ occur when right-clicking a non-FF window if FF initially
has the focus.
* The bug does _not_ occur when right-clicking a _different_ FF window that is
below. (That is, the RMB context menu pops up in the correct place and no
window focus changes and no window raises occur.)

[Bug 478029] [NEW] Clock display text on vertical panel is not oriented correctly

2009-11-07 Thread positivek
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xfce4-panel

Steps to reproduce:

1. New install of Xubuntu 9.10
2. Customize panel... for the panel at the top of the screen (the one with the
clock on it).
3. Choose one of the left or right vertically oriented panel positions.
4. BUG: Notice that the digital clock is now clipped because the text needs
more space than the panel offers.

Obviously, if the panel is made wider, the digital clock text has room
to show itself, but I like the Gnome clock that orients along with the
panel reorientation. This allows me to keep the thin, default panel
size, but have it sideways and still be able to read the time.

As a widescreen laptop user, I prefer to have my top panel on the left.

Some possible solutions:
 - Add an option for the Clock that offers the ability to orient it sideways (L
or R) so that the digital (and other text-based) clocks can be oriented
sideways.

@Parthan SR:
The usual behavior for text- and number-based entry boxes, no matter the
purpose) is to allow the context menu with Cut, Copy, Paste, (Undo). Indeed,
these are already allowed through keyboard shortcuts in this application
already. The OO.o implementation is non-standard and lacks a simple expected
feature.

[Bug 277195] Re: Mouse scroll wheel moves between desktops when over parts of application windows

2009-09-21 Thread positivek
Do you mean there is no way to fix this in Compiz? If this is a Gnome
thing (GTK?), then it should be assigned as such.

Some thoughts:

I think that window widget/containers that act as pass-through for user
input events as a default is not safe. Events, as far as I know, do not
fall through windows when using the non-Compiz window management, and
such behavior probably never has been used in any windowing system.
That is, the window is the last container into which events drop; and
they should be opaque sinks unless specifically designed/programmed
otherwise.

Maybe the GUI toolkit(s) used by at least Evolution, Gedit, Nautilus,
F-Spot are _actively_ passing the events through? Should the toolkits
be added as packages in the bug?

One test would be: Make the non-Compiz desktop do something (print a
mesg?) with scroll events and see if the same bug occurs without Compiz
enabled.

[Bug 384400] Re: OOo flickers when using alt-tab to switch windows

2009-09-19 Thread positivek
I reproduced the issue, but did not notice any change in the log as I
started up OO.o and reproduced the issue. Attached is the requested log
file.

I notice that the flicker appears only on the OO.o toolbar area that
overlaps with one of the possible-target windows when that target is
preview/highlighted while alt-tabbing. That is, alt-tabbing between
windows that are not overlapping (under or over) the OO.o toolbar will
not cause any flicker.

[Bug 391960] Re: horizontal scrollbar does not slide with mouse wheel in Firefox or OpenOffice

2009-09-17 Thread positivek
Yeah, makes sense. I reported it as a single bug because I thought it
might be a broader problem than just the specific apps.

That is, why don't *all* horizontal scroll bars, no matter what the
client, scroll horizontally when the scroll wheel is rotated over them?

There's probably something I don't understand w/r/t the gui libs.

Okay, I will remove the OO.o in the title. This bug is similar to bug
48654, in any case.

[Bug 235277] Re: It is not possible to disable the inertia effect

2009-08-25 Thread positivek
Still in the Jaunty version of Ubuntu in:
Document Viewer 2.26.1

There still is no option for enabling/disabling this
inertia/momentum effect of dragging the document around. That is,
the behavior is that the document is thrown around when the mouse-drag
is released in motion.

Note that there is also a rubber bumper behavior that seems to also
come with this inertial effect. If you throw the document such that
the limit of scrolling is reached, then the document will bounce back
as if it has hit the side of a pool table bumper.

A) These physical-analog behaviors is non-standard and unexpected. This
dragging behavior is inconsistent with other page dragging applications (e.g.
Eye of GNOME 2.26.1 image viewer does not behave this way).
B) Remove this behavior completely, but allow it for people who build their own
or get their own version of Evince, or
C) There should be a way of disabling this in Evince, with the behavior
disabled by default.

[Bug 409644] [NEW] Print to file folder chooser dialog creates folders with Open button

2009-08-05 Thread positivek
Public bug reported:

In at least two apps where a filename is entered along with a drop-down
directory chooser with an other option, the dialog to choose the
other directory will unintentionally create new directories.

gnome-print (?):
1. Start Gedit (or Firefox, etc.).
2. File--Print...
3. Select Print to File under the Printers column.
4. Save in folder drop-down -- Other...
5. Type TEST in the Location.
6. Click Open or press Enter.
7. BUG: A folder called TEST is created and the folder choosing dialog is
closed, with TEST selected.

gnome-utils (?):
1. Start Take Screenshot (Apps--Accessories--Take Screenshot)
2. Continue at #4, above.

Since my intention is something like a save as operation, and the
dialog looks like a save-as dialog, I often type the filename that I
want to use, and press enter. But then a directory is created with the
filename that I want to use. Very annoying because now I have to find
that directory and delete it.

To fix this, I have a couple of ideas/suggestions:
 * Utilize a dedicated directory chooser dialog (is there one for Gnome, as in
MS Windows?), or
 * When a filename is entered in this other chooser, the filename in the
original dialog (e.g. print-to-file, or Screenshot save preview) should be set
to it, and the save in folder should also be adjusted to the folder that was
open in the dialog.
 * Fixing the current chooser dialog so it only creates folders when Create
Folder button is pressed, or
 * Separate the location+filename selection such as the Save As... dialog to
a separate stage in the print-to-file process, or
 * Adjust the print-to-file dialog in some way I don't know yet.

[Bug 295990] Re: Keyboard layout reset after attaching USB keyboard

As I believed to experience this bug ( comment #10 ), it is now working

that bug is in libxklavier, and has duplicate bugs filed against

That is, after these updates, I can now unplug and replug an external
keyboard and retain my Dvorak layout settings.

[Bug 394030] [NEW] Toolbar accelerator keys could work when Toolbar Style is Icons only

2009-06-30 Thread positivek
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: tomboy

Using Tomboy 0.14.0 on Xfce 4 Desktop Environment version 4.6.0 (Xfce
4.6),

I would like to be able to use the keyboard accelerator keys to access
the toolbar buttons even when they are set to display only as icons.

 more information

To conserve screen real estate, I set the Xfce Appearance Settings'
Toolbar Style to Icons. Now I am no longer able to use ALT+t to get
the Text menu in Tomboy.

Wishlist: Provide an (optional?) way to allow use of accelerator keys when
only icons are shown on the toolbar. For example, in the Appearance Settings
section, under Toolbar Style, add an option:
 Enable accelerators on Toolbars
This checkbox would then automatically be selected whenever a user chooses an
option that would display text and would automatically disable whenever a user
chose Icons-only. That way the current, default behavior would remain.

[Bug 393672] [NEW] [xfce]Double click title bar actions use different speed than text selection

2009-06-29 Thread positivek
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xfwm4

I noticed that double-clicking window title bars to (un)maximize them
requires a faster double-click speed threshold than is used for other
tasks in the system.

For example, try a relatively slow double-click to select a word in text
or to open a directory in Thunar. That same slow double-click does not
work to maximize or unmaximize windows in Xfce.

For consistency, these threshold for double-click detection should be
the same across all parts of the UI.

 -- additional information follows --

It does seem, though, that adjusting the double-click time threshold
affects both the title bar and the word-selection, but they still use
different thresholds.

Also: When I double-click the title bar at the slow speed that would be
sufficient to select a word, then
 * the selection _within_ the window temporarily blanks out as if the window
was being moved.
 * the mouse cursor turns to the hand as if I were trying to move the window
(click+drag).

I am using a laptop with a touchpad and with an external USB mouse, but
the problem occurs using either.

I am using
  xubuntu-desktop 2.82
  xfwm4 4.6.0-1ubuntu3
installed on top of Ubuntu 9.04.

xfwm settings:
Appearance:
 - Style: New Wave Dark Menus
 - Icons: Crux

 - Theme: Totem
 - Focus: Raise-on-click is turned off
Advanced:
 - Double click action: *any*

[Bug 391960] [NEW] horizontal scrollbar does not slide with mouse wheel in Firefox or OpenOffice

2009-06-25 Thread positivek
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xfce4

Using Xfce 4 Desktop Environment
version 4.6.0 (Xfce 4.6)
From Ubuntu 9.04 with xubuntu-desktop 2.82 installed.
OpenOffice.org 3.0.1 (OOO300m15)
Firefox 3.0.11
See attached file for versions, too.

1. Open Firefox or OpenOffice.org Spreadsheet such that there is an available
horizontal scrollbar.
2. Hover mouse over horizontal scrollbar.
3. Rotate the mousewheel (mouse wheel)

Actual results:
A4. Firefox scrolls vertically, if available. OpenOffice.org does nothing.

Expected results:
E4. They should scroll horizontally, if available.

Note that some other apps do work.

Working:
 Thunar 1.0.0
 Mousepad 0.2.16
 gedit 2.26.1

Not working:
 OpenOffice.org 3.0.1 (OOO300m15)
 Firefox 3.0.11

PS. Horizontal scrolling should also work with the mouse when it is over
any horizontal scrollbar, even within applications.

[Bug 147230] Re: Changing workspaces via scrollwheel on desktop is problematic, especially when using touchpad

2009-06-17 Thread positivek
I suggest that decision on the action for this bug should only consider
the behavior regarding scroll-wheel over the desktop and should
disregard the (buggy) behavior of scrolling over dead zones.

The dead zones bug, mentioned by Jeffrey Baker on 2009-06-15, is actually
already reported here:
Bug #277195 (Mouse scroll wheel moves between desktops when over parts of
application windows)

As suggested there by Lightbreeze (
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/compiz/+bug/277195/comments/10
), these are separate bugs. Clearly, though, turning off scroll-wheel
desktop switching would only _hide_ the effects of that bug until a user
turned it on somehow.

[Bug 103306] Re: compiz eats mouse clicks at the border of the screen

2009-06-17 Thread positivek
@ David Siegel, Lightbreeze, Matt Zimmerman

Notes:
* borders of the screen includes all borders, including the top.
* Top border has problems in default Compiz settings in Jaunty, as reported in
my post (see below).

Additional notes:
* As noted, it seems that compiz already has some method of passing *only* the
left-click event to windows underneath the top-border pixels.
* = Maybe there is an easy fix for this bug? That is, maybe the mouse-event

[Bug 388582] [NEW] Top-most folder arrow turns black with keypress (in List View)

2009-06-17 Thread positivek
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

1. Open a dir with subdirs in Spatial or Browser mode.
2. Set to List View
3. Make sure focus is on the view area (e.g. not the toolbar). (Clicking on
view area with no item will not give the correct focus, btw).
4. Make sure the mouse cursor is within the Nautilus view area.
5. Leave the mouse alone so you do NOT move it during the following:
6. Press any of the following: ALT, SHIFT, ESC, TAB. -- The top-most subdir
arrow turns black as if the mouse had rolled over it.

The scroll position does not matter.
Moving the mouse will clear the arrow.

[Bug 231709] Re: apport-gtk-mime.desktop appears in System Tools menu

2009-06-15 Thread positivek
I attached the ./.local/share/applications/apport-gtk-mime.desktop file.

The following is all I found when I grep'd for apport in my
~/.config/menus folder, found in applications.menu:

Menu
NameSystem/Name
Include
Filenameapport-gtk-mime.desktop/Filename
/Include
AppDir/home/kalin/.local/share/applications/AppDir
Include
Filenamegconf-editor.desktop/Filename
/Include
/Menu

I have touched the GUI gnome menu editor. Thinking back, at some point
after installing a default Ubuntu (before upgrading to 8.10, 9.04...), I
probably discovered the menu editor and browsed through it. If the
Report a problem entry was unchecked by default (i.e. with default
Ubuntu installation), then I must have seen it there unchecked and
decided to check it to make it show up so I could report a problem.

Question, Comments:
 * If this menu entry is never meant to be used by or shown to the user, then
why is it available to display via the menus?
 * Only apps/scripts, etc. that could or should be run by the user, via the
menu, should be available in the menu editor to show/hide.
 * I used the gnome menu editor to look for installed apps that the default
installation had turned off by default.

Hope this helps.

[Bug 385816] [NEW] Resize corner grab stays visible after maximize

2009-06-11 Thread positivek
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: firefox

1. Start up Nautilus or Firefox.
2. Make sure it is unmaximized and smaller than the screen.
3. Notice that in the bottom right of the window there is a grab area for
resizing
4. Maximize it.
5. -- Notice that in the bottom right of the window there is still a grab
area for resizing. It should not be visible.

In Nautilus, the grab area after maximizing simply does nothing and does
not go away. When I mouse over it, the mouse pointer does not change.
See screenshot.

In Firefox 3.0.10, the grab area after maximizing makes a mouse-over change
the mouse to a SE-corner resize pointer. The grab area remains until at least
the following occur:
 * Attempt to use it (after the mouse-up) or click on it.
 * Switch to another window and then switch back.

Occurs with different Gnome Themes (Human-Clearlooks and Mist tested).

Does NOT occur with Eye of Gnome.

Ubuntu 9.04.
Gnome 2.26.1
Nautilus 2.26.2
Firefox 3.0.10
Eye of Gnome 2.26.1
Linux 2.6.28-11-generic #42-Ubuntu SMP Fri Apr 17 01:58:03 UTC 2009 x86_64
