[Bug 1006145] Re: Logitech Mouse not recognised on boot in 12.04 later

2013-08-13 Thread pt123
I just applied the updates, restarted the computer
uname - a shows 3.2.0-51-generic

then I shut it down, then pressed the power on , and the mouse was NOT
recognised, had to manually unplug the usb mouse from the computer and plug it
back in again for the mouse to work like before.
Then I tried again, shut it down and started the computer, same thing the mouse
was NOT recognised.

Hopefully other people will have better luck,.

Doesn't wine let you access Gnome's Print to file option

On Sun, Oct 14, 2012 at 7:00 AM, Tim Passingham tim@tim-

unfortunately print-to-file doesn't work for me. My particular problem
is a Windows program running under Wine, and print-to-file in that

work-around for my current problem (involving Access 2003 to RTF, to
Word 2003 to DOC, to LibreOffice to PDF), but it's tedious to say the
least, and the resulting layout far from perfect.

As I get more experience using Ubuntu I suspect I will encounter other
native Linux programs that I want to output to searchable PDF and that
don't have their own PDF facility (I am aware that Libreoffice and some
browsers already do have that facility).

[Bug 1012970] [NEW] tomboy can't recognise it's already open gracefully when open-note arguement is used

2012-06-13 Thread pt123
Public bug reported:

I am trying to create unity quicklist using this guide for Tomboy
http://askubuntu.com/questions/35488/what-custom-launchers-and-unity-quicklists-are-available

Using the man page for Tomboy it says you can open tomboy using tomboy
--open-note [title/url]

This works well when the application is closed. But once it has been
opened, the command will just display the window with the list of notes,
than the particular note. When the command is run from the terminal it
says [ERROR 14:33:43.474] Tomboy is already running. Exiting...

When it would be preferable if it was able to switch to the note passed
in, like other applications like Zim Desktop do.

The result is an inability to make unity quicklists for Tomboy

2012-06-04 Thread pt123
I am also having problems after upgrading to 12.04 from 10.10 with irexec, as
it doesn't start
I am getting this message:

irexec

irexec: Connection refused

when I try restarting LIRC this error message come up

[Bug 991116] Re: lirc does not work/start

2012-06-04 Thread pt123
I just looked at conf file from 12.04 machine and it had
REMOTE_MODULES=lirc_dev mceusb

so after changing I was able to restart lirc with out the errors. When I
ran irexec the previous error stopped happening.

So you might want to try restarting lirc incase any errors come up with this
command
sudo /etc/init.d/lirc restart

[Bug 1006145] [NEW] Logitech Mouse not recognised on boot in 12.04

2012-05-29 Thread pt123
Public bug reported:

When the computer boots the mouse is not recognised, you have to
manually unplug it and plug it back for it to be recognised. This only
happened after upgrading to 12.04.

What is also significant is that it only happens when the computer is
shutdown and booted. If it is rebooted using 'restart' then the mouse is
recognised on boot.

USB legacy support is turned on in the BIOS.

[Bug 1003883] [NEW] Is converting text to image, hence making the text unselectable

2012-05-24 Thread pt123
Public bug reported:

I recently upgraded from 10.10 to 12.04 when cups-pdf was perfect now
it's useless because of this. All the text printed to PDF is embedded as
an image, as hence the text cannot be copied and it's like having a
piece of paper.

Printing was done from both Firefox and Chromium.

Also printing takes longer an ghostscript gs process hits 100% cpu, this
never happened with cups pdf in 10.10.

[Bug 967091] Re: Wrong tint in flash when it uses video acceleration

2012-05-16 Thread pt123
the fix in Maxim Tikhonov PPA worked on 12.04 32 bit

Strangely on my 64bit newer comp flash videos were not affected.
Both computers are using nvidia 210 cards, but the 32bit is an AMD 4850 cpu
while the newer computer is an Intel i5 2500K cpu

[Bug 752445] Re: Intermittent white window contents when maximizing/switching windows

2011-04-21 Thread pt123
This occurs on all the time on the windows and I am using a single
screen (1920x1280) .

It seems like something is not being flushed out, because when you open
non UI intensive application it is fine. But then when you open another
non UI intensive application the new window is white.

Opening UI intensive applications like Firefox the Window is always
white.

[Bug 388904] Re: Nautilus 'Computer' displays redundant labels

2009-12-30 Thread pt123
Is there anyway of removing the eyesore 500 GB Hardisk: in front of the
drives. It is rather unnecessary and takes the focus from most info the
Name/Label/MountPoint of the partition.
Or it should be shown in a smaller and lighter text below the
Name/Label/MountPoint.

Do I really need to see 500GB so many times, I bought the hard disk I know it
is 500GB, I don't need to be reminded of it every day.

When one has given a label for a partition there is no need to mention how
large the drive the partition sits on, after all it is limited by the partition
size.

2009-10-30 Thread pt123
I just tried installing 9.10 Netbook Remix version after loading Live
CD, and it is hangs at the screen which gives you option to erase entire
hard disk, largest continuous space ...

When I opened a terminal to see which process was stuck it was ubiquity,
at 80%.

When I decided install without going into live CD, the partition screens
opened fine and got through to installing it.

Note the installation was on as Asus EEE PC using a USB stick

[Bug 275495] Re: nautilus search, when several places are choosen only the latest is searched

2009-08-29 Thread pt123
Kompute's proposals are cluttered and not pleasing on the eye.

Nautilus' current search is great for most of your searches. When you
have a folder with many files, you press ctrl + F and you are presented
with the cursor already in the search textbox and all you need to enter
a portion of the name and press enter. Simple and quick.

Unlike Windows XP where you have to answer so many questions before you
are even allowed to enter your search text.

Please avoid cluttering the basic search window.

[Bug 409219] [NEW] Computer location incorrectly displays custom icons for the partition once a removable drive is attached

2009-08-05 Thread pt123
Public bug reported:

One of the useful features in Nautilus is to select your own icon for
directory items.

In the Computer:/// location this is very useful as you can assign
meaningful icons to your partitions.

But when you plug an external hard disk and new partitions populate the
computer:/// location, and when you have removed the drive , on your
next reboot all the custom icons you assigned get jumbled and they are
incorrectly given to the wrong partitions.

I am guessing the issue is how these icons are stored to which
partition. Doesn't happen with folders.

[Bug 204434] Re: Thumbnails for 200% zoom are regenerated each time a folder is opened.

2009-04-09 Thread pt123
I am using this version in Jaunty
1:2.26.1-0ubuntu1 and this bugs seems to be there.

It might not be regenerating the higher quality thumbnails but it still
appears to be.

If I reopen the folder (which was set to 200% earlier) the thumbnails it shows
are the low quality ones (i.e. they are blurry) then after a while it starts
showing the better quality thumbnails. It does it in such a slow manner that it
appears to be recreating those thumbnails again.
The only difference I have seen is that lack of a white border that appears
when a zoom level is increased.

I have attached a screenshot comparison, the first is the high quality
thumb, the second is the thumb after reopening the folder (i.e. the low
quality.)

[Bug 306751] Re: create a virtual package ffmpeg-unstripped which pulls in all unstripped versions of the libs

2009-01-23 Thread pt123
so is there anyway to get an unstripped ffmpeg to work in Intrepid?

At least with Hardy medibuntu used to provide ffmpeg packages

but with Intrepid they are saying there are unstripped versions but when
I run ffmpeg it still cant handle xvid files.

[Bug 320720] [NEW] Can't create jpg thumbnails in Intrepid

2009-01-23 Thread pt123
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: ffmpeg

On Hardy using the medibuntu packages one was able to create thumbnails
from an xvid file

ffmpeg -i testfile.avi -r .01 -y ~/ss_%d_yy.jpg

now this doesn't work on Intrepid using the unstripped ffmpeg libraries
in Intrepid because medibuntu doesn't provide ffmpeg versions

but png files work
ffmpeg -i testfile.avi -r .01 -y ~/ss_%d_yy.png

I prefer jpg to png as the filesizes are much smaller.

[Bug 275265] Re: Partition exceeds drive capacity

2008-10-10 Thread pt123
The problem was that one of the partitions sda11 hadn't had fsck run on
it for sometime.

After running it sda11 was recognised but the partitions after that were
not recognised.

But this disk had a peculiar setup in that on disk it was arranged sda1
..sda10 sda12 sda13 sda11

After deleting the partitions sda12 sda13 sda11 and recreating them the
partitions are recognised.

But Gparted still sees the drive as being unallocated in the new kernel 2.6.27
while with the older Kernel (one from Hardy) it still sees the partitions.
I suspect this is because of the bug :
Driver 'sr' needs updating - please use bus_type methods

[Bug 275265] [NEW] Partition exceeds drive capacity

2008-09-27 Thread pt123
Public bug reported:

Using the 2.6.27-3-generic kernel in in Ibex Alpha 6.
The problem is that it is only seeing the first 10 partitions on the disk
drive.
Most likely because of the message :sda: p11 exceeds device capacity. So any
partition past sda10 is not being mounted. Gparted also sees the drive as
unallocated which also prevented me from installing Ibex using the CD because
it wouldn't let me choose a partition from sda to install Ibex.

When using the 2.6.24-19-generic kernel with rest of Ibex all is fine
and all the partitions are detected (incl. Gparted).

Here is the suspect dmesg from 2.6.27-3-generic.
