Re: [Bug 878191] Re: network-manager-applet does not show ipv6 addresses

2011-10-19 Thread puccha
Also, it would be helpful if you could paste here the output of the 'ip
-6 route' and 'ip -6 addr' commands.

yuri@smaug:~$ ip -6 route
2001:888:1525::/64 dev eth0  proto kernel  metric 256  expires 85861sec
fe80::/64 dev eth0  proto kernel  metric 256
default via fe80::240:63ff:feef:618c dev eth0 proto kernel metric 1024
  expires 1256sec hoplimit 255

yuri@smaug:~$ ip -6 addr
1: lo: LOOPBACK,UP,LOWER_UP mtu 16436
 inet6 ::1/128 scope host
valid_lft forever preferred_lft forever
2: eth0: BROADCAST,MULTICAST,UP,LOWER_UP mtu 1500 qlen 1000
 inet6 2001:888:1525:0:21e:8cff:fed9:41bf/64 scope global dynamic
valid_lft 85849sec preferred_lft 13849sec
 inet6 fe80::21e:8cff:fed9:41bf/64 scope link
valid_lft forever preferred_lft forever

Furthermore, in some cases
(autoconfig after the device was fully marked connected, etc.) it's
possible for the addresses not to show.

This could be the case. Ubuntu's default configuration is to not require
ipv6 for the connection to complete.

show global addresses (i.e. omit [fe80::]).

[Bug 597236] [NEW] netstat statistics overflow

2010-06-22 Thread puccha
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: net-tools

In netstat's summary netstat -s the fields 'InOctets' and 'OutOctets'
appear to be a 32 bit signed value. When sending or receiving large
amounts of packets the values occasionally wrap around and change sign.

Festival now works as expected and the sound stream is identified as
festival in Sound Preferences on the Application tab.

Now that Ubuntu uses pulseaudio as default, how can we go about
 including this default configuration file?

The Debian package maintainer for Festival is Kartik Mistry
(http://packages.qa.debian.org/f/festival.html). I think it is best to
contact him and ask for the configuration change (I cc'd him/her). Next
time Canonical forks Debian the changes are copied. I'm not sure however
whether Debian also uses Pulseaudio.

@Kartik: We are talking about configuring Festival to use Pulse by
default in Ubuntu/Debian. Alsa might be a nice compromise in case Debian
doesn't do Pulse. see: (https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/209900).

[Bug 372456] Re: NetworkManager high CPU usage with Human theme displaying wifi list

2009-07-26 Thread puccha
Well, I'm also affected, I just didn't wan't to give a 'me too'
reaction. Almost the same netbook with a 900 MHz celeron processor
(eeepc 900).

With too much networks in the area it is almost impossible to browse the
networks. I don't think disabling animated bars is a good solution, my
microwave oven has enough computing power to animate multiple bars at
once. _My_guess_ is that the coding for the bars is just insanely bad.
Maybe it's a good idea to report this bug to the Gnome developers? I'm
not sure about the best way to do this and who to inform.

[Bug 340804] Re: [Dell Inc. XPS M1330] hibernate/resume failure [non-free: nvidia]

2009-05-04 Thread puccha
Thanks Mabawsa, that worked for me. Recap of my road to trouble:

1) ubuntu 8.10, hibernated fine but didn't wake from suspend. 4GB ram, 2GB swap
2) upgrade to 9.04, suspend worked, but system failed to enter hibernation
3) live cd, extended swap to 4GB, partition got different UUID so I edited
/etc/fstab
4) system succesfully entered hibernation but never resumed. always starting
'fresh'.
5) ran mabawsa's fix.

I had this problem on
- an intel e8400 desktop (jaunty 64bit)
- Asus eeepc900 (jaunty 32bit) (worked fine with both suspend en hibernation
before, 1GB ram, 440MB swap)
both an upgrade from hardy

[Bug 209900] Re: Festival won't speak when other app is playing sounds

2008-04-03 Thread puccha
I think festival uses oss, a legacy sound server that only allows one
audio stream at a time for most soundcards. Look for an argument to make
it use alsa. Or alternatively fool festival and route the audio stream
through alsa:

$ echo hello | aoss festival --tts

You might want to install the alsa-oss package first.

Alsa can mix different sound streams on a software level if your
soundcard can't.

[Bug 164767] innd bootup script is crippled. creating PID file in non existent dir.

2007-11-23 Thread puccha
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: inn

When installing inn, the daemon starts and works properly. Upon
rebooting the machine innd doesn't get started cleaming it can not
descent into the directory /var/run/innd.

Some investigation learned that the script /etc/init.d/inn contained
some inconsistencies about which directory should contain the pid file.
Below is a portion of the script as directly extracted from inn_1%3a1.7

should be replaced by /var/run/innd.

Since this prefends inn to start both automaticly and manually after a
reboot I suggest a critical status. Luckely with a dead-easy fix.

Matthew Nuzum schreef:
The Option DDC no workaround fixes the problem for me, but I'm
curious if anyone can explain what this does?

(quote from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Display_Data_Channel)

The Display Data Channel or DDC is a digital connection between a
computer display and a graphics adapter that allows the display to
communicate its specifications to the adapter. The standard was created
by the Video Electronics Standards Association (VESA).

What in my opinion happens is that either:
- your monitor reports the wrong physical dimensions
- your graphics driver doens't interpret the DDC information correctly.

My guess it is the latter happens as switching to another driver also
fixes the problem for me (i810, although I think that driver has no 3D
hardware capabilities). But maybe the i810 driver is simply incapable of
reading DDC and therefor the error doesn't occur (ergo: it's your
monitor hardware's fault)?

Anyway, by telling xorg not to use the DDC information it probably
assumes some default dimensions of your hardware which are more accurate
than what DDC reports.

//puccha

BTW: This workaround not only fixed problems with the login screen, gdm
for me but also:

mythtv (video and live tv where squized)
compiz-fusion (would boot up with HUGE titlebars)
teamspeak (menu scaling was incorrect to the point it was unuseable.)

I'm not capable enough to fix these thing but this solution could cause
lots of trouble:

- small screens DO exists. There is no reason to assume a heigth or
width is unreasonble as well as DPI.
- This problem infact occured on my laptop that has a wide screen, this
fix works only for 4x3 monitors. Even the common resolutions 1024x768
and 1280x1024 dont have the same aspect ratio.

I'm not sure where exactly this bug occurs. Is it the monitor hardware,
monitor driver, video hardware or video driver?

In case it is the monitor hardware I think it is better to blacklist
some troubles models and over write its values. I'm confident the models
are detectable (but have no clue how or where this should happen, video
driver?).

If it's a driver issue, well, it should be fixable.

[Bug 107320] Re: Large font in the GDM login text field after installing xserver-xorg-video-intel

2007-11-17 Thread puccha
@mets.tes.chaussettes, thank you.

 add
 Option DDC no
 in xorg.conf

This worked for me. More specificly (I had to do some trail and error)
add this line to your monitor section:

Section Monitor
   ... #whatevert was in already.
Option DDC no
EndSection

I had more monitor sections so make sure you pick the right one (or maybe all?).
I now found out that this is caused because my monitor reports a wrong physical
size:
about 300mm width and just 20mm heigth.
This gives me an insane vertical resolution of 980 DPI! and thus to compensate
gnome uses HUGE fonts.

[Bug 107320] Re: Large font in the GDM login text field after installing xserver-xorg-video-intel

2007-11-14 Thread puccha
unfortunatly enabling the pre-released updates did not work for me although it
seem to have downloaded lots of gnome stuff.
I havent tried booting while desktop effects are on but the login screen still
has insanely large fonts on my machine.

[Bug 59695] Re: default value in power.sh potentially kills laptop disks

2007-10-29 Thread puccha
I have the same problem with my laptop drive.

Laptop is 5,5 months old, I guess that's a spindown of once every 30
seconds.

[Bug 110974] Re: bad overlay on intel 945 with experimental drivers

2007-10-28 Thread puccha
More details:
- gutsy
- intel 945
- 64 bit

With the experimental drivers the image for videos using an overlay is
scaled incorrectly as well as low saturated colours.

situation 1
1) watch a video using mythtv - the image is squashed in the x direction and
has few colours. (image is almost grayscale and the width is about 1/6th of the
original)

situation 2
1) start totem (no need to load or play video)
2) start mythtv - video looks good. (probably now using software overlay)

situation 3:
1) start totem and watch video - squashed and low coloured image

situation 4:
1) start mythtv and watch video (squashed again)
2) start totem and watch video - perfect image

This is not just totem and mythtv, I noticed the same problem with
arbitairy players. It seems to me the first program grabs hardware
overlay (which is buggy) and the second uses software (which works
perfect).

When I switch to the i810 driver using the screen and graphics dialog,
the problem disappears (but I'm not able to use the native 1280x800
resolution then). Furthermore in the login screen some fonts are about
10 times their normal size with the experimental driver. might be
unrelated though.
