Re: [Bug 1468115] Re: Could not calculate the upgrade
hey Brian, I am very sorry, but I do not really understand what you are asking me to do here. I would need the steps laid out exactly as I am still relatively new to linux. Btw, I love this reporting system and how I get responses back for participating. Please keep up the great work that you do! [Bug 1468115] [NEW] Could not calculate the upgrade
Public bug reported: Could not calculate the upgrade An unresolvable problem occurred while calculating the upgrade. This can be caused by: * Upgrading to a pre-release version of Ubuntu * Running the current pre-release version of Ubuntu * Unofficial software packages not provided by Ubuntu If none of this applies, then please report this bug using the command 'ubuntu-bug ubuntu-release-upgrader-core' in a terminal. This is the message I get when trying to upgrade from 14.04 to 14.10. I have removed all 3rd party updates but there is no change. I searched for isight-firmware-tools and the full text of the generated summary in the page linked from the initial report page. I'm surprised I didn't see a match since the issue doesn't seem particularly nuanced. [Bug 596328] [NEW] NULL deref in __restore_rt when attempting to start vncviewer
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xserver-xephyr Since the Lucid release, starting a Xephyr server and running vncviewer against it results in a SIGSEGV. The backtrace (running with -sync) was: 0: Xephyr (xorg_backtrace+0x28) [0x57ebb8] 1: Xephyr (0x40+0x1827cd) [0x5827cd] 2: /lib/libpthread.so.0 (0x7f57bdbc2000+0xf8f0) [0x7f57bdbd18f0] Segmentation fault at address (nil) With the previous Xephyr version I tried running Xephyr under gdb to get more info but that suppressed the symptoms. Now I can run, for instance, xload against the server but vncviewer dies. I've attached a core generated with the above backtrace. [Bug 596328] Re: NULL deref in __restore_rt when attempting to start vncviewer
Don't you hate inaccurate bug titles? Some further poking round has determined that the it's not the vncviewer that causes the problem but the xdpyinfo used to see of the server started. To reproduce the issue it was sufficient for me to use: $ Xephyr -host-cursor :20 $ xdpyinfo -display :20 ... visual: visual id:0x51 class:TrueColor depth:32 planes available colormap entries:256 per subfield red, green, blue masks:0xff, 0xff00, 0xff significant bits in color specification:8 bits Backtrace: 0: Xephyr (xorg_backtrace+0x28) [0x57ebb8] 1: Xephyr (0x40+0x1827cd) [0x5827cd] 2: /lib/libpthread.so.0 (0x7f4e82fda000+0xf8f0) [0x7f4e82fe98f0] Segmentation fault at address (nil) -- NULL deref in __restore_rt when attempting to start vncviewer https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/596328 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

I can't tell you when it happened, but if I check my current installation, karmic, synaptic is dependent on hicolor-icon-theme and indeed I haven't seen the issue in recent memory. Thanks for your time in checking up on these smaller issues, I know it's not always easy of frustration free. I appreciate your efforts. I changed to emerald decoration first and then fusion-icon quit. The restart seemed to work fine. This has not happened before. I've had the package installed for about a month I think. [Bug 95833] Re: synaptic icons missing
This also happens on a Gutsy install for a LAMP server. synaptic was added via apt-get after a fresh install. It is also missing the icons. Isn't this a dependency issue? # synaptic (synaptic:24373): Gtk-WARNING **: Could not find the icon 'package-install'. The 'hicolor' theme was not found either, perhaps you need to install it. Seems to suggest so. And gtk-update-icon-cache isn't installed either. [Bug 95833] Re: synaptic icons missing
The issue was resolved, for me, by installing another package: apt-get install hicolor-icon-theme IMHO this package should be a direct, or implicit, dependency for synaptic. -- synaptic icons missing https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/95833 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
