MB is not a meaningful abbreviation to most of our users, and don't
you agree that it should be some other program's job to inform the
user that their trash has grown too large? I understand why this
information is useful to you, and probably to many other people, but I
remain unconvinced that it is sufficiently useful to merit inclusion
in Do. Perhaps you could write a patch, are provide further reasons
for this feature?

the same thing happens in firefox 3.0b5 on ubuntu 8.04.
Firefox freezes and so does thunderbird. I turned off a whole bunch of plugins
and the problem vanished.

I have flash plugin enabled and a vlc plugin enabled. And this is working fine.
I turned off
a) default plugin,
b) demo print plugin for unix/linux
c) divx web player
d) Helix dna player; realplayer G2
e) itunes application detector
f)quick time plugin
g) totem web browser plugin 2.22.1
h) windows media player plugin 10 (from totem 2.22.1)

I am not quite sure how I got that many plugins. Probably from a recent
installation of codecs for totem player.

But this was happening even before this codec download.

this is the situation:

Write a document with Openoffice Writer
Save the document as a MS Word (2003/XP) format
On Windows edit the document but turn on tracking of changes
Re-save the document

You will notice that a once 500KB file somehow expands to about 10MB.
I use Oo (on Linux) exclusively at work so this is a bit annoying when I send a

Re: [Bug 130907] Re: only critical trip point 104C

2008-03-07 Thread rax_m
Hi. Unfortunately I'm running Gutsy at the moment and can't afford to
upgrade to an unstable release. Once I get a copy of Hardy stable I will
test.

Thanks

[Bug 151382] Re: nvidia with compiz and with dual core freeze

2008-01-24 Thread rax_m
I can confirm that the same happens for me.

Toshiba P100
Dual Core
Nvidia 7600 Go with 128MB RAM

I usually can't get to a console so cannot kill x. But occasionally
Alt+SysReq+K manages to kill X and allow me to log in again. Without Compiz it
is very stable.
I have tried both the restricted driver and the latest driver install with Envy.

Then, unmount it using sudo umount /dev/sdb1

[Bug 179124] digikam crashes on full disk

2007-12-28 Thread rax_m
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: digikam

While using digikam to process raw images into jpegs my drive (the one
with the pictures, not my home partition) ran out of space.
Unfortunately digikam just crashes instead of giving an error message.

It would be nicer if a decent error message was shown saying that the
tool cannot continue. It works fine once I free up some space on the
drive.

The Hardy Heron kernel was recently uploaded for testing. We'd really
appreciate it if you could try testing with this newer kernel and
 verify
if this issue still exists. Unfortunately, the Hardy Heron Alpha1
 LiveCD
was released with the older 2.6.22 kernel. You'll have to manually
install the newer Hardy Heron kernel in order to test. This should not
be the case for Alpha2. However, here are the instructions to install
(if you choose to do so):

1) edit the file /etc/apt/sources.list and add the following line:

deb http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu hardy main restricted

2) sudo apt-get update
3) sudo apt-get install linux-image-2.6.24-1-generic
4) reboot and select the new kernel from the grub menu

After you've tested, please feel free to revert back - ie boot into the
old kernel, sudo apt-get remove linux-image-2.6.24-1-generic, and
 remove
the line from /etc/apt/sources.list . Please update this report with
your results. Thanks in advance!

I've opened a task against the new linux package (now simply called
'linux') and will close the 2.6.22 package as this issue is not an SRU
candidate. See: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/StableReleaseUpdates . Setting
to Incomplete as there is no debugging info for 2.6.24 yet. See
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelTeamBugPolicies ,

[Bug 175110] SDL Game fan doesn not come on

2007-12-09 Thread rax_m

Hi

I noticed today that when playing an SDL game (Astromenace in this case)
the laptop fan will not go faster as the laptop gets hotter. However,
once I exit the game, then the fan will be activated at high speed until
the laptop cools down. The laptop ACPI temp reports about 90C when I
exit the game.

[Bug 172419] firefox freezes and turns gray

2007-11-26 Thread rax_m
Hi John,

If you're using Ubuntu Gutsy, then there is a patched kernel that is currently
working to bring back sound, nvidia gpu fan. The only thing I'm not sure about
is suspend hibernate. Have a look at this thread
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=3842108#post3842108
It has links to the launchpad bug report where there is a huge discussion.

I think it works with the P105 series as well.. but you'll have to
double-check.

What's the status on this? I'm very frustrated without the power
management on my laptop ---sound took higher priority than the power
management for me.

Without it, my fans never kick into high gear, and the laptop overheats
when doing intensive processing. With it, no overheating, but no
 sound.

[Bug 136469] Re: toshiba p100 series dsdt acpi error no sound, works with acpi turned off.

2007-11-15 Thread rax_m
Hi guys.

I have a Toshiba P100-429. I am currently using Feisty with the DSDT patch and
everything is working.
I am also waiting for the Gutsy issue to be sorted before I install it..

However, I tried Opensuse 10.3 last night, and noticed that sound and
nvidia fan works out of the box without installing a custom DSDT.

Just thought it might be of interest to some ppl.

I'm sticking with Feisty tho', till Gutsy is fixed... or maybe Hardy.

[Bug 152988] Re: Toshiba P100 Fans not working properly

2007-10-30 Thread rax_m
Hi

I managed to sort out my GPU fan issue.. apparently I missed something
in the DSDT when I updated it. I found a link at the following site (in
French)
http://ql.homelinux.net/wiki/doku.php?id=ubuntu-7.04:dsdt#le_ventilateur_de_la_gc_nvidia

Making those changes to my DSDT makes sure my GPU fan is at least on.. though
I'm not sure if it shifts to higher speed when heavy processing happens.. still
need to check it some more.
The updated DSDT will be posted on the ACPI site : http://acpi.sourceforge.net/

[Bug 152988] Toshiba P100 Fans not working properly

2007-10-15 Thread rax_m
Public bug reported:

Hi

I am using Ubuntu Feisty at the moment.

I was always under the impression that my fans on my Toshiba Satellite P100
worked correctly.
However, I noticed that when doing graphics intensive tasks the computer does
get quite hot .. up to 100C while drawing in the Gimp or playing Savage. This
is ambient temperature I believe and not the actual CPU temp as Linux cannot
detect the sensors for the laptop.

When the CPU is working a fan does come on.. however I don't think it's the
Graphics card fan.
BTW The graphics card is Nvidia Geforce 7600 Go with 128MB ram with the
restricted drivers loaded.
According to the Nvidia settings application, GPU temp hardly ever goes over
80C.

Also, the bios is a Phoenix bios which I believe is known to cause
issues.

Lastly I also updated my bios to version 3.30 (latest is now 3.80) and
compiled a custom DSDT (this was to get sound working).

A number of people have reported similar issues on the Toshiba support
forum.. but of course Toshiba does not support Linux at all.

Please let me know if you need more information.

Thanks
Rax

I know that, I'm currently working on that, so, it should work in
gnumeric-1.8.0, hopefully. xls format is not easy to support because
 of
bad documentation and because the goffice API is quite different from
the xls one.

[Bug 151886] gnumeric chart labels not saved

2007-10-12 Thread rax_m
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnumeric

When adding to charts to an xls spreadsheet in gnumeric and then adding
labels to the x and/or y-axis those labels are not saved. That is, if I
close the spreadsheet and open it again, the labels have disappeared.

I guess this might be b'cos it's in xls format.. But it would nice to
have a warning to save in gnumeric format at the least.

[Bug 149845] Openoffice writer default font

2007-10-06 Thread rax_m
Public bug reported:

Hi

I am using version 2.2 of Openoffice that is used with Feisty.

For Writer, I prefer to use a Times New Roman font. But when I change
the font on the Tools-Options -OO Writer - Basic Fonts and change the
font in the available fields, that change is only valid for that
document. In other words, I have to redo this setting every time I start
a new document.

Please let me know if you need more information.

[Bug 144856] gnumeric save dialog keyboard accelerators

2007-09-25 Thread rax_m
Public bug reported:

Hi

I'm using the version of gnumeric currently installed in the Feisty
repositories.

When prompted to save a changed document in gnumeric, the save dialog
does not have any keyboard accelerators on any of the buttons. Which
makes using a keyboard only more difficult. It would be nice to be able
to just select a letter on the keyboard to select the correct button.

This request is a minor quibble and not urgent.

[Bug 144861] trash file properties do not reflect all files in folders

2007-09-25 Thread rax_m
Public bug reported:

OS: Ubuntu Feisty
Desktop: Gnome 2.18.1

Assume I have deleted a folder containing some files and it has been
moved to the trash can. Also, some other individual files may have been
deleted. When looking at the contents of the trash it will just show the
folder and the individual items. It's very difficult to know that there
may be items within the folder (that is, the folder is not empty). The
only way to check this is to select all of the items or to go into the
folder. This is a cumbersome way of doing things if there are many items
in the trash can.

Perhaps a better way would be to default the view to list (where you can
see the items), or somehow list all items within subfolders (aka windows
recycle bin).

This is not an urgent request.

[Bug 132042] wireless stops working until reboot

2007-08-12 Thread rax_m
Public bug reported:

Hi
I have a Toshiba Satellite P100 laptop. Ever since upgrading to Feisty (clean
install), my wireless connection seems to die occassionally and randomly.
Network manager can see my wireless AP but just can't connect to it. Once I
reboot it works fine. Most often occurs if the laptop is left running for a
long time (i.e. a day or more).

Kernel: 2.6.20-16-generic
Using the restricted drivers for the networking which is installed
automatically after you install.

Tried doing sudo /etc/init.d/networking restart but that doesn't bring
it back.

[Bug 130907] only critical trip point 104C

2007-08-07 Thread rax_m
Public bug reported:

Hi.
I've got a Toshiba Satellite P100. I've been running Ubuntu Feisty for a while
now (couple of months?) and it seems fine, except for the acpi temp. On
investigation, I found that the /proc/acpi/fan directory is empty and that the
/proc/acpi/thermal_zone/THRM/trip_points contain the following:
critical (S5): 104 C
passive: 104 C: tc1=2 tc2=3 tsp=40 devices=0xdf8559c8

To me that seems way too high, and may explain why my laptop got up to
90C the other day when playing a game. Most days it will get to about 75
if I'm doing something intensive, but the fans normally kick in. Since,
I've been paying much more attention and noticed that some days the fan
will kick in quite regularly, and other days not. I always power down
the laptop (i.e. do not suspend or hibernate).

NB. I have compile my own DSDT for this laptop in order to get sound
working.

[Bug 127375] Ubuntu desktop does not gain focus when all windows close

2007-07-21 Thread rax_m
Public bug reported:

Hi

If I close all of my windows on the workspace, I notice that the desktop does
not gain focus.
So if I try to access anything via the keyboard, e.g. Alt-F1 for the menu or
similar, then it only works if I have physically clicked onto the desktop.

This is a bit annoying as it means you cannot have a completely mouse-
free experience. ;)

[Bug 125264] Sound broken after resume of Suspend - Toshiba P100

2007-07-11 Thread rax_m
Public bug reported:

Hi,

Ubuntu Feisty Fawn

Bios updated to 3.30
DSDT manually fixed and applied to get sound working

After suspending to ram and resuming (which seems to work wonderfully works),
the sound no longer works. In fact there are no sound cards even detected.
However, if I reboot then everything works as expected.
I know this might be related to other bugs, but I thought this might be
