[Bug 607560] Re: jbd2 writing block every 5 - 10 seconds, preventing disk spin-down and making noise

2011-09-25 Thread rgbiernat
I basically did the same as John ^ - but I used Ramlog
(http://www.tremende.com/ramlog/index.htm) - it basically mounts your
/var/log as ramdisk and synchronizes the contents when you shut down /
start your computer with /var/log.hdd. Playing around with "iotop -oPa"
I was able to find some more apps which continuously wrote to my
harddisk. This page also helped me a lot: http://info4admins.com/tips-
to-spindown-your-hard-disk-in-debian-or-ubuntu/

[Bug 692005] Re: libkdecore.so.5.5.0 is broken (?)

2010-12-20 Thread rgbiernat
This problem took me hours to troubleshoot.

I also thought that the .kde folder was the one which prevented me from logging
in. Renamed it. But without success.
This one eventually helped me - deleting the kde-cache for my user in /var/tmp
as suggested here:
https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?pid=846216 (last post)

After that I could access my profile again without problems.

I created a test user and was able to login to KDE again. Seems that our

[Bug 87462] Re: MASTER [apport] amarokcollectionscanner crashed with SIGSEGV in QPixmap::convertFromImage()

2007-10-03 Thread rgbiernat
I just experienced that bug (or a similiar one) - I have done a lot
yesterday - moving the collection from one disk to another - adding a
lot of music. Until my system crashed this night.

The last time I had problems with the collectionscanner I moved ALL
".ogg" files out of my collection. Your mileage may vary.

Kind Regards
Ruediger

[Bug 108235] Re: [apport] restricted-manager crashed with SIGSEGV in gtk_icon_set_render_icon()

2007-06-21 Thread rgbiernat
Followed your instructions - however I am unsure if this really helps
you.

As a normal user (on the command line) it said that I am not part of the admin
group.
As root user it just segfaulted leaving me puzzled as what is wrong with my
system :-(

Did NOT try it without X. Will do that later. System is somewhat
productive.

I added ".root" to one of the logs stating this one was done as root.

Cheers and thanks for debugging,
Ruediger
