Followed your instructions - however I am unsure if this really helps you. As a normal user (on the command line) it said that I am not part of the admin group. As root user it just segfaulted leaving me puzzled as what is wrong with my system :-(
Did NOT try it without X. Will do that later. System is somewhat productive. I added ".root" to one of the logs stating this one was done as root.
