[Bug 1005578] Re: printer settings not accessable

2012-06-21 Thread richard laurenson
Have run Lubuntu 12.04 as a live setup, confirm that the bug resides in Lubuntu.
Have downloaded and Installed LMDE, (debian edition XFCE) both live and proper
install, and confirm that there is NO BUG in LMDE.

So can confirm as it were this is a regression in Ubuntu 32bit and 64bit 12.04.
Not knowing anything about architecture etc I can only guess that there is no
successful communication between the Application printer settings and the cups
printerserver.
(I guess I am sticking now with LMDE, even though I will miss ubuntuone.)

[Bug 1005578] Re: printer settings not accessable

2012-06-18 Thread richard laurenson
For me this is a killer
There is a Disconnect somewhere in cups? or a pipeline between the application
Print Dialogue and the print server.
I do not know how to track it down sorry.

Changes in an Application Print setting for Gnome3/Cinnamon. Certainly
Evince/Libre Office/gedit.
Only Page number and number of copies work. All other settings fail to change.
(Ricoh MPC4500) including colour/gray duplex Tray Source and destination
Document Server/normal/Locked print etc etc.

(I am in PinguyOS at present trying to find a 12.04 that works
grrr..)

To make changes to printer options I installed system-config-printer
1.3.8 Changed the printer settings there, pressed apply, then printed
from application. When Done restored settings in system-config-printer
(in Synapse and Menu it is called Print to Document Server)

Tried to report to gnome bugzilla (eggcups | session-cupsd | unspecified i was
told it was not eggcups, but could not find where else to report)

Am presently installing maya-MATE on another computer to see if it is
broken there as well.

[Bug 1005578] Re: printer settings not accessable

2012-06-18 Thread richard laurenson
Have installed 32 bit LM Maya on an eeepc.
Confirmed the same issue there.

Step By Step: BUG

1 32Bit Mint Maya\Cinnamon and MATE (pinguyOS 12.04)
2 Installed Printer (Network Ricoh MPC4500 on ip 196.etc) and tested. Test
print Fine. Used openprinting provided ppd for the Ricoh PXL.
3 Opened Librewriter /gedit/pluma in my case.
4 Create or open standard text min 2 pages.
5 Menu | Print
6. changed number of Copies to 3 and three copies print out single sided. (6
pages in all) (Good)
7. Menu | Print
8. 3 Copies. Choose button Properties (libre office) or choose tab page
setup (gedit/evice) select Duplex longside/shortside whatever. Prints out 6
single side pages.
9. Menu | Print
10. Choose anything on the properties tab/button no effect. 100% time

WORKAROUND
11. in Gnome installed application system-config-printer. Called directly via
synapse
in MATE control centre | Printing = same thing

12. Select Ricoh | properties
13. Choose desired options, duplex, paper tray and destination, Colour/Grey, Jo
type (Normal, Locked, Document Server = stored on Photocopier)
14. return to Application Menu|Print (number of copies) Success.
15. the printer settings remain through reboot until they are changed again by
system-config-printer.

This is 100% every time. Fresh install of PenguyOS which is Ubuntu12.04.
I confirm BUG and workaround with new install of Mint-Maya-MATE
Bug existed in previous installs of ubuntu 12.04 and Mint 13 Cinnamon. No
problem for Mint12. Can still boot into that if needed

Happy to supply whatever you need for more info (just tell me what to do
in little steps)

[Bug 1002699] Re: cups not respecting printing options

2012-06-17 Thread richard laurenson
WORKAROUND and a clue?? to problem
This has happened to me also

Changes in application print dialogue have no effect. Except for page
range and number of copies. No duplex no colour/gray no Document
server. (Ricoh mpc4500)

I Intalled System-config-printer I Change Settings press APPLY and
can go back to Application and print according to these settings.

My Only working Reference is to LM12 = ubuntu 11.10, but that had Mate
installed so the Gnome2 routines might have been in play.

I have tried ubuntu 12.04 LM13 Pinguyos12.04
Last worked properly in LM12 which is 11.10 base.

[Bug 950071] Re: LibreOffice Recent documents list is always empty

2012-04-29 Thread richard laurenson
Thats interesting. Had same bug (Mint12).

Removed HOME/.config/libreoffice/3/user/registrymodifications.xcu.
I then closed L-O and it wrote the registry file again. Same bug

So I CLOSED L-Office, deleted Go to registrymodifications.xcu
Started up L-office and it wrote the file on startup and all fixed.

[Bug 178173] Re: Font problems with .tex files and special (danish) characters

2010-02-05 Thread richard laurenson
I am using Lyx which uses texlive, on Ubuntu 9.10. Locality Rome, but US
English by default.

I have one file that compiles Fine... Typed everything myself in Lyx
and it has for language setting UNICODE (ucs -Extended) (utf8x)

Another file, Which I wrote in OO and copied pasted gives the error
Package inputenc Error: Unicode char \u8:  not set up for use with LaTeX.

I exported from OO to .txt and imported after replacing all the with plain
asci in gedit and got this error
Could not find LaTeX command for character '' (code point 0x2060)

This is under UNICODE UTF8 or the extended option above

If I paste the offending text into the working file I get this error
Package ucs Error: Unknown Unicode character 8288 = U+2060,
Description
 by step,”2
There was no regular shipping service into this part of
Unicode character 8288 = U+2060:
WORD JOINER
Character is not defined in uni-*.def files.
Enter I!RET to define the glyph.

Now For me this is not critical, as I am only playing... but it is curious.
There is this post maybee worth looking at on topic

[Bug 178173] Re: Font problems with .tex files and special (danish) characters

2010-02-05 Thread richard laurenson
Edit:

Hmm... there seems to be a number of non printing characters, field
placings from footnotes or something that have survived as artifacts
when I copy and pasted them I wonder if these are the culprits.

YES they are...
Copy Paste from OO into Lyx, and cpy paste Lyx to OO. Removed all artifacts and
it compiles nicely.
Cannot see these artifacts in any of my txt editors nor Lyx, only OO as grey
shades and in MS word07 (wine) as extra wide spaces when view all characters
is on, and is not visible at all with Abiword.

[Bug 472505] [NEW] mobile broadband and firefox, synaptic, PING etc

2009-11-03 Thread richard laurenson
Public bug reported:

I think NetworkManager, but cannot choose it
Package I suspect whatever feeds programs the server information, which I
imagine Skype does not use..

Karmic official release. A regression
Problem is this, and I have repeated this 3 times.
under Jaunty this was not a problem and I developed a bit of a habit

1. Connect to internet through Network-Manager with Samsung u700.
2. Before connection is stabilized I open Firefox
3. I Receive error from firefox: Firefox can't find the server at
4. Connection is established
5. restart firefox receive same error.
6. open terminal and Ping: www.google.com message: unknown host www,google.com
7. Evolution: error while fetching mail
8. Synaptic also cannot connect.
9. ubuntu one cannot connect.
HOWEVER
1. SKYPE connects online, reports friends online and I can VOIP

Logout long in still same situation, even if I wait until NW-manager connects
properly
Restart and wait for NW-manager to finish all is OK

If I fail to restart and logon via LAN i can connect immediately and all is
well.
I have yet to test to see if then I break connections again by being too hasty.
