[Bug 571101] Re: firefox 3.6.3 freezes regularly and becomes unusable
This is no longer happening to me for the last day or so, with my usual profile. Firefox hasn't been updated, nor have any other relevant- looking packages. I can only guess that it was some bad interaction between firefox and strigi (which is now idle) -- but strigi didn't particularly stress out the system in other respects: it was perfectly responsive. If I have any further bad experiences I will update this bug. -- firefox 3.6.3 freezes regularly and becomes unusable https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/571101 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 571101] [NEW] firefox 3.6.3 freezes regularly and becomes unusable
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: firefox With the latest update to firefox on lucid (3.6.3+nobinonly-0ubuntu4) I find it freezing so often as to be unusable. The freezing seems correlated with disk activity: when the strigi indexer was running, firefox was utterly unresponsive, but even after stopping strigi with a mostly idle disk, it is very sluggish and slow to respond. Konqueror and Google Chrome remain fast and responsive. My impression is that the problem did not occur with the previous version of firefox in lucid. It is reminiscent of the ext3+fsync problem in firefox 3.0, but much worse (I don't know whether it is fsync-related this time). [Bug 571101] Re: firefox 3.6.3 freezes regularly and becomes unusable
It happens with a fresh profile (though I think less severe), and the only add-on is Ubuntu Firefox Modifications 0.9rc2. However, it seems not very reproducible: it works fine for a few minutes, then becomes sluggish / freezes for a few seconds, then works again. I think the sluggishness is related to disk activity. To test that, I am doing a large svn update right now but it doesn't have a big effect. [Bug 334249] Re: Dell Laptop vostro 1310, Internal Keyboard and Touchpad not working anymore on 9.04 jaunty
This bug was intermittent for me (on Dell Vostro 1710) through Karmic. I mostly suspend to RAM and rarely reboot, but occasionally reboots would result in non-working keyboard and touchpad. With Lucid (kernel 2.6.32-21-generic #32-Ubuntu SMP), the keyboard always comes up but the trackpad fails to work roughly 4 out of 5 boots. Kernel options i8042.reset i8042.nomux fixed it for the next boot but I haven't tried repeatedly rebooting so am not sure whether it's really fixed or just happened to work at that time. -- Dell Laptop vostro 1310, Internal Keyboard and Touchpad not working anymore on 9.04 jaunty https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/334249 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 69430] Re: ext3 filesystem corruption?
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 53102 *** https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/53102 I posted bug 69430 (a duplicate of this) in 2006, on upgrading from dapper to edgy. Since then the machine has been up essentially full time with perhaps fewer than 10 reboots, and I have noticed no more problems. So I think we can assume the bug that I reported has gone away in newer kernels. -- ext3 filesystem corruption? https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/69430 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 162383] Re: network-manager consumes 70% CPU and WLAN gets slow
I see the same issue with Hardy. I didn't think to check CPU usage but, after a day or two of uptime including a few suspend/resumes, pinging my router with my wireless card configured with networkmanager takes over 1 second instead of a few milliseconds. When I kill nm-applet and the root networkmanager processes and run dhclient, performance returns to normal. -- network-manager consumes 70% CPU and WLAN gets slow https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/162383 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 135110] Re: [gutsy] firefox freezes with google toolbar enabled when you attemp to open more than two windows
I can confirm this bug in the ubuntu version of firefox (on two different machines, since early in the gutsy cycle and persisting in the release), and it disappears with the mozilla.org version. Perhaps it is really a google toolbar bug: perhaps google toolbar makes unjustified assumptions that happen to work on the official firefox. Or perhaps not. Anyway, from a user perspective it is certainly a ubuntu bug, and it makes me understand why the firefox people are reluctant to let others use their trademark. -- [gutsy] firefox freezes with google toolbar enabled when you attemp to open more than two windows https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/135110 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 91558] network-manager multiple problems
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: network-manager network-manager seems way more trouble than it's worth. Here are three issues I have on my feisty install of 4 days ago (the first one has been reported before by many people, the others seem new): 1. It doesn't work with WEP. Actually, right now it doesn't work even with an unsecured wireless connection. It hangs for ever in configuring interface. Running dhclient by hand configures it instantly. Last I tried it (dapper) it worked with unsecured but not WEP connections. Some time in the early dapper cycle it worked with WEP too, that was before the upgrade to version 0.6. 2. It fails to configure the DNS for my wired connection, though it brings up the interface (correctly, as far as I can make out). I don't see why. Again, running dhclient by hand configured it fine -- but I got assigned a different IP address, though my lease should certainly not have expired, it was only a minute or two. So I don't know what network-manager is doing. 3. If I have knetworkmanager running, and I make a dialup connection by hand (via my GPRS mobile phone), all KDE applications fail to realise that the network is up. I can surf the net with firefox but not with konqueror. If I quit knetworkmanager, konqueror (and akregator and other KDE apps) work again. I have now removed networkmanager (and friends) from my system. It seems a complete mess to me. ** Affects: network-manager (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: Unconfirmed -- network-manager multiple problems https://launchpad.net/bugs/91558 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 69430] ext3 filesystem corruption?
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: linux-image-2.6-amd64-generic This is a Sun Ultra20 (dual-core AMD opteron) machine, on which I installed Dapper on August 2, kernel vmlinuz-2.6.15-23-amd64-generic It had been up from then until October 28, no reboots, no shutdowns (unclean or otherwise). Then I ran update-manager -c to upgrade to edgy. The upgrade appeared to go through successfully, and it asked me to restart the computer. On restarting, there seemed to be extensive problems in the /usr (ext3) filesystem. The other filesystems, including /home (xfs), seem fine. (These are the two largest filesystems, over 100 GB each.)
