[Bug 130074] Adding new tabs to tilda causes it to increase in size

2007-08-02 Thread saads
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: tilda

Running gutsy and tilda_0.09.4-0ubuntu3, if you run tilda and then
right-click and say New Tab, the window that tilda is running in will
increase in size. If you create another new tab, it will increase in
size again and will continue to do so even while running off the screen.
This makes the right most tabs inaccessible and the text will overflow
off the screen so that it cannot be read. Closing tabs does not reduce
the size and the only solution at this point to shrink it is to close
and restart the application.

[Bug 96226] Totem crashes in fullscreen mode while running Beryl

Public bug reported:

When running Beryl, if I open a movie in totem and try to play it in
fullscreen mode, totem crashes. It happens both with totem-gstreamer
and totem-xine. I tried running totem from the command prompt to see if
it would output anything when crashing. Here is the output:

The program 'totem' received an X Window System error.
This probably reflects a bug in the program.
The error was 'BadAlloc (insufficient resources for operation)'.
  (Details: serial 371 error_code 11 request_code 140 minor_code 19)
  (Note to programmers: normally, X errors are reported asynchronously;
that is, you will receive the error a while after causing it.
To debug your program, run it with the --sync command line

[Bug 92226] Re: [Feisty]SSH-Server connection fails in Gnome (Gui)

2007-03-18 Thread saads
I can confirm this bug as well. Steps:

1) Go to Places - Connect to Server
2) Input server information and then click Connect

The expected result here (as it was in previous versions) is that an
icon appears on the desktop, which when you double-click it would then
actually connect to the server. This in itself is somewhat misleading
since the previous dialog says Connect, but when you click that button
it doesn't actually connect.

In any case, the icon no longer appears on the desktop after clicking
connect. Nothing happens. However when you click on Places you see
the link to the new server just above where it says Connect to Server.
When you select that then you are prompted for your credentials (if any)
and it then makes the connection.

[Bug 59959] Re: [totem-xine] Fullscreen controls don't autohide

2007-01-14 Thread saads
What do you mean by focus mode? If you are referring to how windows
come into focus using the mouse then I haven't changed the default
behavior - the window comes into focus when I click on it not when the
mouse moves hovers over it.

If I play a movie in full screen with totem-xine then the controls show
up and are supposed to disappear after a few seconds. They don't
disappear but after a few seconds the controls are not active because
the time indicator does not continue to increase. When I move my mouse
again the time will update properly to the current location in the movie
and it will update for a few more seconds until it is supposed to
disappear again. At which point it won't disappear but will remain
onscreen with a stopped clock and progress bar.

2. Create a user (e.g. username = test) and click OK.
3. Close the users-admin app and make sure that the user was successfully
created - either by logging on or using 'su', etc.
4. Reopen users-admin and delete user 'test'.
5. Recreate user 'test' the same way as in step 2.
6. Close the users-admin app and try to log in as test or to do su, it will not
work. If you reopen the users-admin app you will not see user 'test'. You can
try to recreate the user again but it will not work.

The failure is silent and the user is not notified in any way. I
believe the reason that it fails is that users-admin calls 'useradd'.
If you try doing 'useradd test' after deleting user 'test' (step 4),
then it will fail saying the group 'test' already exists and that you
have to add the user to the existing group.

There's an unsubscribe button on launchpad (top left of the page). If
you're still getting messages then it's because you're subscribed to a
duplicate. The duplicates are also listed on the left side. Unfortunately
the only way I know to get off the duplicates is to search through them and
then take yourself off.

[Bug 64493] apt-get suggests to autoremove packages that are currently being removed

2006-10-07 Thread saads
Public bug reported:

Steps:

1. Install a package that does not download any additional dependencies (i.e.
all its dependencies are installed already).
2. Uninstall that new package by doing an apt-get remove package_name.

You will then get an output that recommends you use apt-get autoremove
after completion of this operation to remove said package, even though
your current operation is doing exactly that. It is not necessary to
also run autoremove since the current operation is already removing that
same package.

For example, I just installed a .deb I had made of the filezilla ftp
client. I installed it. Then when I removed it using apt-get remove
filezilla, I got the following:

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ sudo apt-get remove filezilla

No I don't use beagle - just the default nautilus search. I am running
Edgy up-to-date. You need to try it on a large filesystem with a lot of
files so that the search takes time and you will see that it is still
running. I'm running the search on an old windows drive which has

[Bug 61728] Missing disk management application

Public bug reported:

In Dapper and previous releases there was a Disk Management application
under System - Administration. That tool is gone now. Even though it
was lacking, it was the only mechanism for mounting partitions with a

[Bug 61807] Search does not stop when you click on the Stop button

2006-09-21 Thread saads
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

Steps:

1) Initiate a search from a high-level directory, one that you know will take
some time to complete.
2) While it is searching, click on the Stop button which should now be active.

You will notice that the stop button becomes inactive, but the search
does not in fact stop. I have a scsi drive that is quite loud and still
heard the grinding continuing. Also results for the filename string I
was searching for continued to appear. There was no way for me to
actually stop the search.

[Bug 61806] Search does not initiate from current directory

2006-09-21 Thread saads
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

Steps:

1) Navigate to a directory in the filesystem that is not your home directory
2) Click on the Search button.
3) Enter the name of the file to search for
4) Hit enter to start search.

Nautilus will then automatically begin the search in your home directory
regardless of which directory you have navigated to. If you wish to
choose your current directory to be the starting point, you have to then
manually select the Location drop-down box and navigate once more. This
should not be the intended behavior and is counterintuitive. The
default should be that the search starts from the current directory and
recurses downward in the tree.

[Bug 61817] Nautilus regenerates thumbnail previews when using symbolic link

2006-09-21 Thread saads
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

If I open a directory with many image or movie files for the first time,
you can see nautilus generating the thumbnail previews for that
directory because they appear slow enough for you to see it. When you
visit the directory a second time, those thumbnails are cached and
stored locally so they do not need to be regenerated and they appear
instantly.

If, however, you create a symbolic link to that directory and then visit
it through the symbolic link, the thumbnails will be once again
regenerated. This is visible because they appear slowly and CPU usage
goes up as if you were opening the directory for the first time. You
can do this repeatedly for any number of symbolic links and it will
regenerate them each time.

Nautilus should recognise the destination directory of the link and use
the cached versions instead of regenerating them each time.

[Bug 59956] Zoom In and Zoom Out functionality

2006-09-11 Thread saads
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: totem-gstreamer

Totem-xine enables you to zoom in and out of a playing movie. This is
especially useful for movies that are in widescreen format and only fill
up approximately half of the vertical screen space. This functionality
is not available in totem-gstreamer and it would be very beneficial to
have.

[Bug 59959] Fullscreen controls don't autohide

2006-09-11 Thread saads
Public bug reported:

This happens with totem-xine and not with totem-gstreamer:

Steps:

1) Open up a move in totem
2) Press 'f' on the keyboard or go to view - fullscreen
3) Move the mouse when in fullscreen mode to make sure that the on-screen
controls appear
4) Wait a few seconds without moving the mouse - the mouse cursor will
disappear but the on-screen controls will remain visible.

Seems like it is similar to bug 54654 - although he is running a dual
monitor setup with twinview so I can't be certain. However from the way he
has described it is likely that it is the same bug. If it is, then go ahead
and mark this as a duplicate but perhaps add a note to his bug stating that
it does not only occur when using twinview, but for normal single-monitor
setups as well.

[Bug 57957] Re: [Bug 57957] Re: install/uninstall doesn't complete because of broken init-script

2006-09-09 Thread saads
I am on Edgy and it failed to install vmware-player. There was also an
issue installing vmware-server from the vmware website even though it worked
fine on Dapper. The issue is related to the new libdbus. After installing
vmware server, I was able to run it using 'LD_PRELOAD=/usr/lib/libdbus-
1.so.3 vmware'

There's more information on this and other vmware issues on this thread in

[Bug 59528] True progress screen for file-roller (Gnome Archive Manager)

2006-09-08 Thread saads
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: file-roller

It would be much more meaningful to the user to be able to view the
progress of file extraction instead of the simple 'busy' dialog that
pops up when using the Gnome Archive Manager. I'm attaching a
screenshot of the current progress dialog, which is really not a
progress dialog but just an indicator that the file is being extracted.
Since file extraction is usually a CPU-intensive and (for large files)
time consuming process, it would be much more useful if this dialog did
indeed display a progress bar.

exits silently with no errors. The gnome-power-preferences app is what is
giving the above mentioned bug.

[Bug 57398] Re: [Bug 57398] Re: Doesn't load external subtitles

2006-09-03 Thread saads
With totem-gstreamer they work most of the time but often I get an Internal
data flow error (screenshot attached). When that error appears if I just
click ok and then click on the play button, it works and the subtitles show
up fine. That error only appears with movies that have subtitles.

With totem-xine the subtitles do not appear at all, but I also do not get
that error ever.

This bug happens with any .srt file. I've attached part of one file here.
All you need to do is rename the file to the same name as the .avi file that
you are playing and put them in the same directory. Then the subs should
appear at the time intervals specified in the .srt file. So for the
attached file test.srt, just put it inside a directory with a movie called
test.avi or test.mpg and the subtitles should appear.

[Bug 58545] mp3 plugin causes very bad sound distortion

2006-09-02 Thread saads
Public bug reported:

When playing some mp3's that have deep electronic beats I would often get very
strong distortion from my speakers or headset. The distortion would persist
even at low volume levels and even when the PCM output volume was low. I
discovered a recommendation at:
http://ubuntuforums.org/showpost.php?p=1437919postcount=10

It involved removing the gstreamer0.10-fluendo-mp3 package and making
sure that the gstreamer0.10-plugins-ugly package is installed. This
worked perfectly for me and others and well. Now I have absolutely no
distortion.

I would recommend removing this package unless it is essential for
playback of certain media types that cannot be handled by the ugly
package.

[Bug 58430] fsck error makes ubuntu unusable

2006-09-01 Thread saads
Public bug reported:

When there is an ext3 filesystem error and fsck fails to correct it, the
system becomes unusable. It asks the user to perform fsck manually in a
very cryptic way. The average user can in no way understand what has
happened to their system. In most cases a simple fsck /dev/hdaX
(whatever partition required the check) will end up solving the problem.
This should be done automatically.

Here is the output of what happened to a friend of mine who rebooted and
had to use windows because they couldn't start ubuntu:

The following appears when i try to boot ubuntu:

dev/hda2 contains a file system with errors-check forced

[Bug 58304] CPU usage instead of CPU time

2006-08-31 Thread saads
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-system-monitor

In Dapper under the gnome-system-monitor's processes tab you could view
the CPU usage of each process. This would allow you to sort the
processes by most CPU-intensive. Very useful for when one process is
consuming too much CPU or when a program crashes taking up 100% CPU and
you want to kill it. Now (in Edgy), there is a column for CPU time
which is not nearly as useful for this purpose. Would it be possible to
have both?

It says:

Long Desc: Unset

Thanks for your report. This should be the default. What does
 LC_ALL=C gconftool-2 -g /schemas/apps/procman/proctree/col_9_visible
 say?

[Bug 57957] Re: install/uninstall doesn't complete because of broken init-script

2006-08-30 Thread saads
I can confirm this when I try to install this package. I get the
following when I try to do a sudo aptitude install vmware-player:

Starting VMware services:
   Virtual machine monitorfailed
   Virtual ethernet failed
Module vmnet is not loaded. Please verify that it is loaded before
running this script.

invoke-rc.d: initscript vmware-player, action start failed.
dpkg: error processing vmware-player (--configure):
subprocess post-installation script returned error exit status 1
Errors were encountered while processing:
 vmware-player

I tried to run vmplayer after the install and it crashed. I've attached
the crash file from when it happened. These problems have only appeared
after recent updates. They may be related to the new libhal, as
indicated in this post on the ubuntu forums.

On another note it would be great to package vmware-server since that
has been freely released as of July.
