I can confirm this bug as well. Steps: 1) Go to Places - Connect to Server 2) Input server information and then click Connect The expected result here (as it was in previous versions) is that an icon appears on the desktop, which when you double-click it would then actually connect to the server. This in itself is somewhat misleading since the previous dialog says Connect, but when you click that button it doesn't actually connect. In any case, the icon no longer appears on the desktop after clicking connect. Nothing happens. However when you click on Places you see the link to the new server just above where it says Connect to Server. [Bug 59959] Re: [totem-xine] Fullscreen controls don't autohide
What do you mean by focus mode? If you are referring to how windows come into focus using the mouse then I haven't changed the default behavior - the window comes into focus when I click on it not when the mouse moves hovers over it. If I play a movie in full screen with totem-xine then the controls show up and are supposed to disappear after a few seconds. They don't disappear but after a few seconds the controls are not active because the time indicator does not continue to increase. When I move my mouse again the time will update properly to the current location in the movie and it will update for a few more seconds until it is supposed to disappear again. [Bug 59959] Re: [totem-xine] Fullscreen controls don't autohide
As an update to this, I noticed that this bug does not occur when running compiz instead of metacity. [Bug 61807] Re: Search does not stop when you click on the Stop button
No I don't use beagle - just the default nautilus search. I am running Edgy up-to-date. You need to try it on a large filesystem with a lot of files so that the search takes time and you will see that it is still running. I'm running the search on an old windows drive which has 66000+ files. -- Search does not stop when you click on the Stop button https://launchpad.net/bugs/61807 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 61728] Missing disk management application
Public bug reported: In Dapper and previous releases there was a Disk Management application under System - Administration. That tool is gone now. Even though it was lacking, it was the only mechanism for mounting partitions with a GUI. Now there is no such mechanism and non-experienced users will have to manually edit the /etc/fstab file in order to mount partitions. ** Affects: Ubuntu Importance: Untriaged Status: Unconfirmed -- Missing disk management application https://launchpad.net/bugs/61728 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 61807] Search does not stop when you click on the Stop button
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: nautilus Steps: 1) Initiate a search from a high-level directory, one that you know will take some time to complete. 2) While it is searching, click on the Stop button which should now be active. You will notice that the stop button becomes inactive, but the search does not in fact stop. I have a scsi drive that is quite loud and still heard the grinding continuing. Also results for the filename string I was searching for continued to appear. There was no way for me to actually stop the search. ** Affects: nautilus (Ubuntu) Importance: Untriaged Status: Unconfirmed -- Search does not stop when you click on the Stop button https://launchpad.net/bugs/61807 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 61806] Search does not initiate from current directory
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: nautilus Steps: 1) Navigate to a directory in the filesystem that is not your home directory 2) Click on the Search button. 3) Enter the name of the file to search for 4) Hit enter to start search. Nautilus will then automatically begin the search in your home directory regardless of which directory you have navigated to. If you wish to choose your current directory to be the starting point, you have to then manually select the Location drop-down box and navigate once more. This should not be the intended behavior and is counterintuitive. The default should be that the search starts from the current directory and recurses downward in the tree. ** Affects: nautilus (Ubuntu) Importance: Untriaged Status: Unconfirmed -- Search does not initiate from current directory https://launchpad.net/bugs/61806 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 61817] Nautilus regenerates thumbnail previews when using symbolic link
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: nautilus If I open a directory with many image or movie files for the first time, you can see nautilus generating the thumbnail previews for that directory because they appear slow enough for you to see it. When you visit the directory a second time, those thumbnails are cached and stored locally so they do not need to be regenerated and they appear instantly. If, however, you create a symbolic link to that directory and then visit it through the symbolic link, the thumbnails will be once again regenerated. This is visible because they appear slowly and CPU usage goes up as if you were opening the directory for the first time. You can do this repeatedly for any number of symbolic links and it will regenerate them each time. Nautilus should recognise the destination directory of the link and use the cached versions instead of regenerating them each time. ** Affects: nautilus (Ubuntu) Importance: Untriaged Status: Unconfirmed -- Nautilus regenerates thumbnail previews when using symbolic link https://launchpad.net/bugs/61817 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 58904] Installing new theme causes 100% CPU
Public bug reported: This bug is in gnome-theme-manager but malone does not allow that package to be used. Steps to produce bug: 1) Download a new theme (metacity, gtk, or icons) to desktop. 2) Open gnome-theme-manager (System - Preferences - Themes) 3) Drag and drop new theme onto the gnome-theme-manager-window. 4) When asked whether or apply new theme or keep current theme, choose 'keep current' CPU then jumps to 100%. [Bug 58917] Very old version in repositories

[Bug 57398] Re: [Bug 57398] Re: Doesn't load external subtitles
With totem-gstreamer they work most of the time but often I get an Internal data flow error (screenshot attached). When that error appears if I just click ok and then click on the play button, it works and the subtitles show up fine. That error only appears with movies that have subtitles. With totem-xine the subtitles do not appear at all, but I also do not get that error ever. This bug happens with any .srt file. I've attached part of one file here. All you need to do is rename the file to the same name as the .avi file that you are playing and put them in the same directory. Then the subs should appear at the time intervals specified in the .srt file. So for the attached file test.srt, just put it inside a directory with a movie called test.avi or test.mpg and the subtitles should appear. -- Doesn't load external subtitles https://launchpad.net/bugs/57398 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 58545] mp3 plugin causes very bad sound distortion
Public bug reported: When playing some mp3's that have deep electronic beats I would often get very strong distortion from my speakers or headset. The distortion would persist even at low volume levels and even when the PCM output volume was low. I discovered a recommendation at: http://ubuntuforums.org/showpost.php?p=1437919postcount=10 It involved removing the gstreamer0.10-fluendo-mp3 package and making sure that the gstreamer0.10-plugins-ugly package is installed. This worked perfectly for me and others and well. Now I have absolutely no distortion. I would recommend removing this package unless it is essential for playback of certain media types that cannot be handled by the ugly package. ** Affects: gstreamer0.10 (Ubuntu) Importance: Untriaged Status: Unconfirmed -- mp3 plugin causes very bad sound distortion https://launchpad.net/bugs/58545 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 58430] fsck error makes ubuntu unusable
Public bug reported: When there is an ext3 filesystem error and fsck fails to correct it, the system becomes unusable. It asks the user to perform fsck manually in a very cryptic way. The average user can in no way understand what has happened to their system. In most cases a simple fsck /dev/hdaX (whatever partition required the check) will end up solving the problem. This should be done automatically. Here is the output of what happened to a friend of mine who rebooted and had to use windows because they couldn't start ubuntu: The following appears when i try to boot ubuntu: dev/hda2 contains a file system with errors-check forced unexpected inconsistency RUN fsck manually without -a or -p options an automatic file system check of the root file system failed a manual fsck must be performed then system rebooted - ** Affects: Ubuntu Importance: Untriaged Status: Unconfirmed -- fsck error makes ubuntu unusable https://launchpad.net/bugs/58430 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 58304] CPU usage instead of CPU time
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-system-monitor In Dapper under the gnome-system-monitor's processes tab you could view the CPU usage of each process. This would allow you to sort the processes by most CPU-intensive. Very useful for when one process is consuming too much CPU or when a program crashes taking up 100% CPU and you want to kill it. Now (in Edgy), there is a column for CPU time which is not nearly as useful for this purpose. Would it be possible to have both? ** Affects: gnome-system-monitor (Ubuntu) Importance: Untriaged Status: Unconfirmed -- CPU usage instead of CPU time https://launchpad.net/bugs/58304 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 57957] Re: install/uninstall doesn't complete because of broken init-script
I can confirm this when I try to install this package. I get the following when I try to do a sudo aptitude install vmware-player: Starting VMware services: Virtual machine monitorfailed Virtual ethernet failed Module vmnet is not loaded. Please verify that it is loaded before running this script. invoke-rc.d: initscript vmware-player, action start failed. dpkg: error processing vmware-player (--configure): subprocess post-installation script returned error exit status 1 Errors were encountered while processing: vmware-player I tried to run vmplayer after the install and it crashed. I've attached the crash file from when it happened. These problems have only appeared after recent updates. They may be related to the new libhal, as indicated in this post on the ubuntu forums. http://ubuntuforums.org/showpost.php?p=1444166postcount=9 On another note it would be great to package vmware-server since that has been freely released as of July. -- install/uninstall doesn't complete because of broken init-script https://launchpad.net/bugs/57957 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
