I solved this by turning off 2.2 tb infinity setting in the bios. The board does NOT have a UEFI bios. The installer reads off some bios information somehow and the installer thinks if the infinity mode is on, that this is a uefi bios. Noway nohow can this board run a uefi system partition. Public bug reported: This msi board has a bios that the installer thinks is a uefi bios, but it is not a uefi bios, so the installer tries to install uefi and it can not so the install fails. There is no option to select any other install, like a non uefi grub legacy install. I just tried burning a win 10 64bit iso I downloaded in ubuntu. It is stuck on creating checksum for over 30 minutes now. So is the disk now destroyed? I had right clicked the iso and told it to burn the iso. On another forum, someone said Brasero is no good, use xfburn, so I installed it and might try it. I have found a serious issue now with the suspend. The video card's fan (it is an x1300) will sometimes not spin up again! I was using the PC and was getting video corruption then I looked down and the video fan is off. It is free spinning so not stuck. I have the cover off as I was setting up 13.10 on the drive for another PC. I can not use ubuntu if it is going to ruin my hardware. I certainly CAN NOT trust the suspend feature. I created an executable desktop file. Click on it and network comes up for me Single line in the file saysgksu restart network-manager. I think putting gksu nmcli nm sleep false would also work. For my video card fan not respinning from suspend, I unplugged fan wire from video card board and hardwired to a system fan plug on the motherboard. Public bug reported: I started a thread on this bug http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2182128 After I upgraded to 13.10 when the desktop suspends and then wakes the networks are unconfigured. The led lights come on on the builtin nic card, but no networking, the empty triangle shows. run this command sudo nmcli nm sleep false I get a message that says network now offline. Then you click the network icon and you see all the network cards Then tell it to enable networking, by selecting 'Auto Ethernet' And it comes back working as it should. So is the network-manager not awakening from sleep? I just tried it again and does not work. unetbootin completes without error. Then when I boot the thumb drive, it dumps me at a busybox prompt after i tell it to boot from the first drive. Public bug reported: Every time PP restarts, I have to run nvidia-settings and force set the monitor refresh rate to 85. It always shows 60 on reboots, and hurts my eyes. ASFAIK, nvidia settings is properly saving the xorg.conf file. But perhaps the kernel, just ignores it and always sets the refresh to 60. I started another thread on the hlep section here. http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1937190 Another thing I noticed is that after I improperly modified xorg.conf and could not boot being stuck at checking battery state ok I restarted with and selected the second menu line. (forget what grub calls it), anyhow I was eventually given several boot options, and when I choose 'failsafe graphics', with the extra line Modeline 1600x1200 301.81 1600 1752 2120 2808 1200 1200 1204 1264 in xorg.conf, failsafe graphics failed to load the gui to login. To me, that is a bug. Failsafe graphics should not load any xorg.cong dont you think? I had to drop to root login and rm xorg.cong in etc/X11. effects me, serious issue is true. I upgraded to beta of 12.04 to see if problem went away. With 12.04 it reports that gnome shell crashed. With 11.10 it reports nothing, just crashes. this bug showed up a couple months ago after a system update. I distinctly recall on MM it was working fine, then update, then the problem came up. Right now it is less of an issue for some reason than it was before. I am running nvidia driver latest from nvidia web site. seriously slows down the boot for me, takes 4 times longer than karmic to get to the desktop. I have to select 'logout anyway' or it locks up the screen. The mouse moves and you can select cntrl-alt-F1 thru F4 etc... to get to a console login prompt. Around 9 minutes in, it will stutter, stop, start and is basically unwatchable. I saved a copy out of /.cache/gnome-mplayer/plugin to test it out against deveral other players. mplayer and vlc play thru without any trouble. gnome-mplayer has the same trouble as when playing in the browser. i terminated the stream play since all it kept doing was spitting out the same error. The video was stopping, starting, jerky etc... I saved the file to my drive and I can take the same file, play it in VLC or mplayer and it plays straight thru with no errors. if i open it in gnome mplayer it starts halting at the same spot. [Bug 489688] [NEW] update-grub writes in wrong settings for example memmap=54M\$970M
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: grub2 I have a memory module that memtest86 says the last 54MB is bad. total memory is 1024mb. So, using memmap you can tell the kernel to ignore and not use a specified memory range. In my case memap=54M\$970, so the kernel wont use starting from 970MB the next 54Mb's. since it is bash script, you have to escape the $.?? you want the linux kernel line after splash, in /boot/grub/grub.cfg to have appended on the end, memmap=54M\$970 but when you edit the /etc/default/grub file to add in a kernel parameter memmap=54M\$970, grub-update writes in memmap=54M$\970 which wont work. I dont know if my syntax for escaping the '$' is correct but if it is, then this is a bug. this is my line in /etc/default/grub GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT=quiet splash memmap=54M\$970 and running update-grub yields linux /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.31-14-generic-pae root=UUID=4923760a-6e34-4678 -b0ab-d06b151a2998 ro single memmap=54M$\970 The '$' and '\' are reversed. I was able to reproduce this 3 times in a row.. uninstal, reinstall, redo all the feeds, etc... banshee also gave me SIGSEGV error any ideas. the program was running great. for me it boots to a login prompt, no gui. I also see warning errors about vbox flash by. 2.6.31-14 boots me just fine. After installing and following the steps mentioned in the VMware forums to compile the modules for the new kernel, the Application finally started. However, there still seems to be a problem with mouse and keyboard focusing in the guest OS. Apperently this is caused by a new version of GTK+. The good news is, that never Versions of VMware ship with their own compatible version GTK+. In order to use these shiped versions, just set the according environment variable export VMWARE_USE_SHIPPED_GTK=yes or export VMWARE_USE_SHIPPED_GTK=force You may append this to /etc/vmware/bootstrap for example to automate the setting before starting VMware Workstation or VMware Player. Public bug reported: when running karmic beta and vmware server 2.0 and viewing the guest virtual machine xp in vmware console the mouse is dropped at the screen edge when screen resolution in the guest is greater the 640 by 480. the mouse will flash on and off and the numlock key will flash on and off as the mouse is moved outside of the 640 by 480 screen size. this makes mouse control so bad as to be basically unusable to use vmware. http://communities.vmware.com/thread/235572?tstart=0 this is what i have been experiencing. they say it is a problem with gtk solution is too roll back to the earlier version 2.16.6?? not sure how you can do that in ubuntu.
