[Bug 1958019]

2022-05-24 Thread sheryl
Oh, sorry I was in the wrong one version cuz I tried reverting to the
older one when nvidia didn't work anymore.

In kernel 5.17.0 the first command gives
$ sudo modprobe snd-hda-codec-cs35l41-i2c
modprobe: FATAL: Module snd-hda-codec-cs35l41-i2c not found in directory
/lib/modules/5.17.0-051700-generic

while the other two give nothing.

The first two modprobe commands returned
`
modprobe: FATAL: Module snd-hda-codec-cs35l41-i2c not found in directory

The third one returns nothing.

I tried reinstalling my nvidia driver too but even after purging all it
doesn't seem to work :\

2022-05-23 Thread sheryl
Thanks for the quick responses. I followed the instructions to install
the latest version. Is it supposed to work if I installed 5.18 too? It's
not working and it stopped recognising my external monitors too.

[Bug 1958019]

2022-05-22 Thread sheryl
Hi all,
I'm facing the same problem with my Lenovo Legion 7. I'm running Ubuntu 20.04.4
LTS and am not very familiar with kernels. I tried finding the linux source
folder/directory, open the file: sound/pci/hda/patch_realtek.c but I don't have
the pci folder.

Is there already a solution for this?

My alsa-info: http://alsa-
project.org/db/?f=bb246fbe1fe783444da0b95a9bab4fba09613c8a

Appreciate any suggestions.
Thanks!

[Bug 1790816] [NEW] Terrible sound after update to 18.04

2018-09-05 Thread Sheryl Zettner
Public bug reported:

The sound just is extremely distorted after update to 18.04. Like an old
radio that's not picking up the station right. I saw a webpage about the
same device I am using and tried their solution. That didn't help at
all. Hope I didn't make things worse.

I saw a page that mentioned the lspci command. Based on that, I guess I
am using an Intel 82801 JD/DO audio card. One site said that requires an
snd_hda_intel driver, but all I could find in Synaptic Package Manager
was that an alsa driver and pulse audio were installed. Could the
correct driver have been removed with the new installation?

This computer has been kind of buggy as of late, but the audio had been
working. I had problems installing this OS. Mostly it seems to be
working otherwise though.

1) Description: Ubuntu 18.04.1 LTS
Release:18.04

2) N: Unable to locate package pkgname

3) What you expected to happen: sound to work properly

4) What happened instead: sound distorted

Hope my attempt to fix it doesn't screw up the bug report.

[Bug 1698994] Re: Authentication Agent "Authenticate" button incorrectly greyed out

2018-08-13 Thread Sheryl Zettner
I just upgraded to 16.04 on my old computer, and it has this problem. It
was a nasty installation because of some unfixed bug that appears to
have been around since 2004 where it doesn't install sysv-rc.

But consequently, one of my accounts was really wonky, but another one
was less so. I think they both had admin privileges, but added the good
account to the sudo and root groups and moved all my files.

I was hoping to delete the wonky account, but when I open Synaptic
Package Manager, the password is grayed out.

Synaptic doesn't offer flashback in the 3.22 (only 3.18.2-1ubuntu1.) I
downloaded this 3.22.1 package, but I am a bit out of my depth in how to
install it. I clicked the install file, which goes on about the shell
command. It also says that you should follow the instructions in the
README, except the README was blank (0 bytes.)

Maybe I will just have to live with this till the 3.22 version is
available through synaptic. Like one of the gentlemen here mentioned, I
also discovered that if I picked another user and then went back to my
own user name that it was no longer grayed out. But I actually changed
that other account from Administrator to a normal account, so there are
no longer two administrators, but I still have to flip to the other
account and back before it will let me enter my password. That seems so
odd, considering that I added this account to the sudo and root groups.
It seems like it should trump the other account, but instead I can't
even enter the password without it.

Anyway, wish I understood the instructions better.

[Bug 877279] Re: EOG - Image viewer hangs system when opening large image file

2016-10-27 Thread Sheryl Zettner
Mine will open large graphics zoomed out. When I try to zoom in on them,
however, that is when it jams on me. And it really jams. Sometimes I
have to unplug the computer just to clear it.

This seems to be a fairly new problem on my computer. I used Image
viewer for ages with no problem. I'm pretty sure some stupid update is
responsible. I guess I will have to make Gimp the default view. What a
hassle though.

[Bug 1472390] [NEW] July 7th earning morning update threw display completely off

2015-07-07 Thread Sheryl Zettner
Public bug reported:

I ran the July 7 update at about 1AM CST last night, and it totally
threw my monitor out of calibration. The alignment was shifted to the
left so far that the left panel became invisible. The fonts were made
larger.

I had to mess with the monitors setting to even get my left panel back
to check for further updates today, but my entire left panel is bunching
up on itself on the top, so that the top application icons in are all on
top of each other.

I hope I am reporting this the proper way, but your system for reporting
bugs is very confusing. I am surprised I even got this far, as it is not
very intuitive how to do bug reports these days. :(

BTW, this is the second time I have had an update screw up my computer
in the last month. I'm starting to lose faith in the security of these
security updates, as only a hacker would probably know how to get
through all the submission hurdles to make these kind of changes.

Also, it might help to know that I am using gnome metacity, so this may
be limited to those of us using that. The default was slow as molasses
on my old computer and the application choice on the their generic panel
were not very intuitive, so I had to switch back to gnome.

So I am not going to update my other computer till this is resolved. It
was clearly an update issue, as it was working fine till I ran the
update and restarted my computer. My apologies if this is a duplicate
report, but I did not see it on the list of recent bug reports. I'm just
doing the best I can keeping my system bug free. Cheers.

The attached pic is what my screen looks like AFTER fiddling with the
monitor settings to get the panel far enough to the right that I could
see and use it, but after the update it was all very much to the left
and much larger.

[Bug 524454] Re: Networking is disabled on boot (usually after suspend/hibernate)

2010-09-22 Thread Sheryl Barrow
Mathieu,

I don't reboot it before/during/after Suspend. When it goes to sleep
(Suspend) it's working, and when it wakes from Suspend it's disabled.
Just like that. :) There are no problems waking back up - everything
works fine, except networking.  That's why I wanted to mention it here;
no one else seemed to be having these exact symptoms (or at least not
reporting them) and I was hoping the bit about the USB might help to
narrow down the cause. We'll see

I originally tried rebooting to see if that would fix it (before I found
the correct steps) and it didn't work obviously. I just use sudo rm and
then reboot and all is better.

[Bug 524454] Re: Networking is disabled on boot (usually after suspend/hibernate)

2010-09-21 Thread Sheryl Barrow
I don't know if this is new info or not, but on mine I've noticed that
it only does this when coming back on after Suspend, but *only when
there's a USB connection plugged in*. USB Key, external harddrive,
camera - all of them will cause it. I want to say it's only when the
item is unplugged while in Suspend mode, but I can't be 100% positive.
I do know it's gone into Suspend and returned ok with *no* USB plugs.

I can't right-click on Network Manager (but I might be in the wrong
place), and the network-manager service isn't running, so I don't have
to stop it. I just do the "rm
/var/lib/NetworkManager/NetworkManager.state" command and then reboot
(without trying to start the service either) and poof! it works again.

This is a brand new install of Ubuntu 10.04 LTS (Lucid Lynx). I
downloaded and installed maybe a week ago.

[Bug 464293] [NEW] Removing software isn't working

2009-10-30 Thread Sheryl Westleigh
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: software-center

The new software center isn't removing software when I click the "remove
button". It just seems to do nothing. I needed to remove Banshee to see
if reinstalling would fix a problem. Tried uninstalling a few other
unrelated programs just to see if it would let me and it doesn't. I'm
not very tech savvy so other means of removing software on Ubuntu are a
little over my head.
