[Bug 1916278] Re: Arduino fails to start: undefined symbol: sp_get_port_usb_vid_pid
Clean install of Ubuntu 22.04 LTS x64 (Jammy Jellyfish), with KDE. Noticed several suggestions to install via Snap... I can report that installing the Arduino IDE via Snap (1.8.19+dfsg1-1) has the EXACT same behavior as above. Asks for dialout permissions, then closes. Running "arduino" from Terminal shows the exact same error as mentioned in the initial bug ("undefined symbol: sp_get_port_usb_vid_pid"). Just FYI the patch recommended in #11 does solve the issue--or at least bypasses it so the Arduino IDE can start. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1916278 Title: Arduino fails to start: undefined symbol: sp_get_port_usb_vid_pid To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/arduino/+bug/1916278/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1721987] Re: No sound from right audio channel
Still, the issue with the right speakers persist. I am not proficient in running or compiling scripts or programs in Linux. I am currently running Ubuntu 19.04. The strange thing I noticed is that the power switch toggle [even a soft toggle without fully turning on/off] fixes the right speaker immediately. However, whenever there is loud audio, the right speaker turns off (i don't know if its some channel or stream that turns off). -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1721987 Title: No sound from right audio channel To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/linux/+bug/1721987/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1828569] [NEW] Popping sound when audio driver engaged
Public bug reported: Fresh install of Disco over the weekend on new hard drive. Any time a sound plays, whether it's from a browser (both Firefox and Chromium), Slack, video or MP3 file, sound in VirtualBox OS, etc. Any sound, even an alert sound or even just opening an app that may make a sound (e.g. opening a browser page that may have alerts or sounds (like a game) makes the same popping sound just when browsing to that page). It's preceded by a pop or a click from the speakers, a fast pop-pop sound. When said audio is finished, about 25% of the time there is another audible pop or click. I have 18.04.x LTS on another hard drive and when I boot to that instance I do not have the pop sound. I believe it's probably driver related, but I'm not sure where to look. Fresh disco install, have performed apt updates, and rebooted several times. Has persisted for several weeks. ** Affects: ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1828569 Title: Popping sound when audio driver engaged To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1828569/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 239952]
This remains a huge issue for me as of Nov 9/2010, a couple of years after is was reported. My system will not open any .DOC despite the fact that I have associates this extension variously with Word 2003 and Open Office Writer. I am now running Win 7 Pro. The error message is also unclear and unhelpfulthe associated helper application does not exist. What I'd like to suggest is adding what the system thinks the associated helper application is? That would help me find a workaround. At the moment I do not know what or where's it's looking. This should be raised from Normal to Urgent level. For those encountering this issue in Firefox and Thunderbird, it almost forces us to use different software and dump Mozilla. -- firefox - the associated helper application does not exist https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/239952 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 239952]
Thanks for the fast response. In Thunderbird, there is no Applications pane (that's in Firefox) but there is an Attachments pane, which is where I set it for Microsoft Word (which fails). I have also tried other programs that I do have loaded, and which work in other situations, like Open Office Writer -- everything fails. This is how I set the associations I referred to in my original report. As I said, nothing works. One possibility is that, if I used the currert version of MS Word, it might actually work. The fact that I crippled the new Word (for which I have lo license because I like the older versions better) may be at the root of my specific problem. -- firefox - the associated helper application does not exist https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/239952 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 131976] Re: apparmor doesn't work on stacked file system (livecd) -- DHCP/cups/others fail to start
IF the problem is the stacked file system, then why am I able to, after booting, do: sudo /etc/init.d/apparmor start on my persistent 9.10 Live CD and have no errors? Is it possible that this 'bug' with the stacked file system is just a problem caused by the Ubuntu initrd.lz trying to load apparmor profiles before the casper script has had a chance to fully create the stacked file system? (please see prior post #44 that addresses the sequence of script events during the Live CD boot process) I am just wondering if the problem is with the Ubuntu customization of the 'init' and 'casper' scripts within the Ubuntu initrd.lz, and not really an upstream problem at all. -- apparmor doesn't work on stacked file system (livecd) -- DHCP/cups/others fail to start https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/131976 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 131976] Re: apparmor doesn't work on stacked file system (livecd) -- DHCP/cups/others fail to start
Is it possible this problem is caused by a sequencing problem with the Live CD scripts? I run the Karmic LiveCD in persistent mode on a hard disk drive. Once I am logged in to Ubuntu, I can run 'sudo /etc/init.d/apparmor start' and see no errors in the terminal nor the log files. The kernel log shows all the aparmor profiles are loaded. Everything works normally. In looking at the Karmic initrd.lz content, it appears that the '/init' script calls '/scripts/init-bottom/apparmor', which then tests for the existence of a file called '/scripts/casper-bottom/42disable-apparmor'. The latter file will be found when booting with the Live CD software, and finding that file will cause '/scripts/init-bottom/apparmor' to early exit instead of loading the apparmor profiles. The apparent reason for the early exit, in lieu of loading the profiles, is the assumed failure of apparmor to deal deal with the union file system created by the live CD software. BUT, when the early exit is taken, the '/scripts/casper' script that sets up the union files system has NOT YET RUN, as far as I can see, so of course apparmor would have a problem finding and loading profiles? Is it possible that simply changing the apparmor profile load process to follow the creation of the union file system, would allow apparmor to execute properly? It seems like an odd coincidence that lots of software EXCEPT apparmor appears to run flawlessly on the 'stacked' file system, and that apparmor is happy to load profiles after booting the Live CD? -- apparmor doesn't work on stacked file system (livecd) -- DHCP/cups/others fail to start https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/131976 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 268808] [NEW] superblock last write time is in the future
Public bug reported: When /etc/default/rcS has the line UTC=no then when Ubuntu startup runs fsck one receives the message: 'superblock last write time is in the future. FIXED' googling reveals the problem is the hardware clock is set to local time, but the Ubuntu shutdown process writes the UTC, i.e., GMT time to the superblock. So on reboot, when the fsck compares the hardware clock to the superblock, the GMT time in the superblock is 'in the future'. Note: my time zone is California, so GMT is 7 or 8 hours ahead of my local time. All the google links talk about the problem being that the startup process does the superblock compare, via fsck, before the routine runs that resets the system time. My perception is that the real issue is that the shut-down scripts write the GMT time to the superblock instead of the local time. [Bug 224174] Re: [upstream] [hardy] Impress: resolution trouble on desktop VS projector
I just tried it... and the resolution of the presentation is fine if impress is started *before* the resolution of the display is changed. Ummm... I think I misspoke above. Here's (hopefully with more clarity) what works, and what doesn't. The OOo presentation works okay, if you (1) Make sure OOo is closed. (2) Change the display resolution (before starting OOo) (optionally, attach any external projector(s)) (3) Then start OOo, and start the presentation. The OOo presentation does *not* fit in the screen if you (1) First start OOo (2) Then change the display resolution (optionally, attach any external projector(s)) (3) Then start the presentation... the presentation will not fit the screen. [Bug 224174] Re: Impress: resolution trouble on desktop VS projector
I can confirm this behavior. I have a Thinkpad T61 using Intel's GM965 X3100 display controller. The laptop screen resolution is 1280x800. For an external projector to work with the laptop (with cloned output) I have to resize the screen resolution to 1024x768. Doing this, nicely resizes everything to fit within both screens. However, now if I run a slide show in openoffice.org impress, the slides are not resized correctly... and parts of the slides are cut out of the display. In fact, you do not even require an external projector to reproduce this behavior. Simply changing the screen resolution on the latop (to a lower resolution than the maximum supported) results in this bug to manifest itself. -- Impress: resolution trouble on desktop VS projector https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/224174 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 211731] Re: Keyboard focus does not switch on closing application
Ah. Okay... I've tracked down the problem to synergy. I use synergy quite a bit to share a keyboard and mouse between multiple machines. Without synergy, it seems to be running okay. On Fri, 2008-04-04 at 12:37 +, Sebastien Bacher wrote: Thanks for your comments. This does not appear to be a bug report as such. [Bug 211731] [NEW] Keyboard focus does not switch on closing application
Public bug reported: I just upgraded from Gutsy to Hardy Beta yesterday. And I have been seeing a weird behavior with the keyboard focus. Suppose I have two windows open, window1 and window2, and window2 currently has focus. Now, if I close window2, the focus switches to window1. But typing anything in window1 doesn't work at all. Even if I click inside window1, and then start typing, nothing happens. The only way I can switch keyboard focus to window1 is by clicking on the title bar of window1. I tried this with firefox (window2) and gnome-terminal (window1). Then with firefox (window2) and eclipse (window1). And once with evolution (window2) and terminal (window1). I'm afraid I haven't been able to reproduce the bug after the one time I saw it. Once I opened the evolution calendar, the system was back to normal, and I haven't seen that behavior since then. [Bug 74070] Re: Google Calendar ics support
I am having the exact same issue on ubuntu edgy (fully updated)... evolution 2.8.1. Here's how you should be able to recreate the error: (1) Start evolution, (2) Switch to the calendar window. (3) Create a New Calendar, with these options... Type:On the Web, check Copy calendar contents locally, URL: webcal://www.google.com/calendar/ical/[EMAIL PROTECTED]/public/basic.ics (This is US National Holidays public Calendar). (4) On clicking Ok, the calendar will work fine... even on terminating and restarting evolution, the calendar works fine. (5) Now reboot your system and then restart evolution... switching to the calendar window should give you an error like this: Error on webcal://www.google.com/... cannot resolve hostname. I get six such error messages, one for each web calendar I am subscribed to. I guess the one thing that's common between the 6 calendars is that they are all google calendars... so it would be good to check if this happens with non-google web calendars as well. Here's another observation... I initially subscribed to 4 web calendars... and all 4 worked fine until I rebooted the system. Then I came to my home network (from work), and I got 4 error messages -- one for each calendar. Then I subscribed to 2 more calendars... and those worked fine. I kept getting only 4 error messages as long as I restarted evolution (without rebooting or logging off). But as soon as I rebooted the system, and started evolution (and switched to the calendar window), I got six error messages this time (still my home network). Any insights will be appreciated. Yet another followup... I have a second machine which runs Fedora Core 6, with evolution 2.8.2.1. I tried to recreate this error on that machine. I *do not* get the error on that system. [Bug 72857] Re: Alacarte lack a way to change all the users' menu in a snapshot
I'm having quite a similar setup here: 15 LTSP Clients with up to 800 users. I tried to use alacarte and sabayon for administration, but also had a lot of trouble with it. If you just want to remove the entries from users' desktops, you can go to /usr/share/applications and find and rename all the entries you don't want to be displayed. I just added a .disabled after the file names, i.e. applicationname.desktop.disabled. Alternatively you could set the permissions of the relevant bin files to 750, so that users are not allowed to start the programs anymore. But of course that doesnt remove the desktop entries... -- Alacarte lack a way to change all the users' menu in a snapshot https://launchpad.net/bugs/72857 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 69799] services-admin reorders acpid startup
Public bug reported: This bug relates to the 'services-admin' tool on edgy. I used services-admin to not stop acpid (and not start during bootup). This worked fine. Then after booting up a few times I re-enabled acpid in the services-admin tool. But for some reason it wouldn't start and gave this error: /proc/acpi/event: Device or resource busy After some investigation I found that the hald daemon (started by dbus) was starting up before acpid and was spawning hal-addon-acpi. It looks like hal-addon-acpi takes control of the /proc/acpi/event file making it inaccessible to acpid. The only reason for this error I can think of is that services-admin possibly reordered the start acpid (to occur after hald). Manually changing /etc/rc2.d/S50acpid to /etc/rc2.d/S10acpid fixed the problem. ** Affects: gnome-system-tools (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: Unconfirmed -- services-admin reorders acpid startup https://launchpad.net/bugs/69799 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
