[Bug 1853369] Re: [19.10] Boot hangs at "loading initial ramdisk"
This bug started affecting me a few weeks ago. It seems to happen whenever a new kernel version is pushed out. This time, what Ben did in #75 -- downgrading grub to 2.02+dfsg1-12ubuntu2.1 -- was the only thing that fixed it for me. I cannot remember exactly what fixed it for me the first time, but I did not have to downgrade grub - I believe installing an older kernel was what finally fixed it. I have a Dell XPS 15 9550, Ubuntu 20.04 installed with EFI, and a LUKS encrypted primary drive. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1853369 Title: [19.10] Boot hangs at "loading initial ramdisk" To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/intel-microcode/+bug/1853369/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

my bug # 897681 has been marked as a duplicate of this bug . while it may relate to this bug in the fact that nvidia 173 does fail to install , that is not why I filed the bug . [Bug 726058] Re: wireless disconnects randomly
I did not mention in the original report that my wireless chip is a realtek rtl 8185 and that I use no security on my network . the problem has persisted through natty and into oneric . Sabayon ,suse , puppy and ubuntu prior to the natty kernel do not exhibit this behavior . I have since found that Debian squeeze can be made to exhibit the behavior if the package firmware-realtek is installed and then cured if the package is purged. This package is for cards later than mine (rtl 8185) the driver for mine and earlier has been built into the kernel for a long time . This package does not exist in the Ubuntu repos , so I suspect that begining with the .38 kernel Ubuntu built the contents of the package into the kernel causing a conflict for earlier cards . -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/726058 Title: wireless disconnects randomly -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Public bug reported: Binary package hint: network-manager up to date natty , this started with the 2.6.38 series kernel , I updated a maverick install at natty repo opening and update atleast once daily . [Bug 615033] Re: Can't choose where to install grub in ubiquity
adding a rather rambling comment about some other problems with the new installer. please off me non-free ..should be offer not off asks to select wireless network but none shown even though I have 2 and was actually connected to one at the time ( installing from live cd desktop ). downloaded and installed updates during installation even though that option was NOT selected and then hung at "retrieving file 18 of 18 ", skip option was greyed out. aborted installation but it had already installed everything but the grub files rebooted live cd and tried again without any network connected so it couldn't try to d/l anything , strange, I was installing to sdd the first time now the same drive is called sdb ( I can tell from the size and arrangement of the partitions ) also it wiped out the labels for the partitions . well this time it still tried to d/l updates even though it was not connected to any network , skip still greyed out .waited 30 min for it to timeout trying to d/l unasked for updates with no network connection , aborted second install attempt . -- Can't choose where to install grub in ubiquity https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/615033 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 608508] [NEW] usb stick will not stay unmounted with safely remove
Public bug reported: when you have a usb stick mounted and wish to remove it the RT click menu shows an entry for eject and an entry for safely remove . Selecting safely remove does not work because it immediately remounts automatically and opens a nautilus window . This is confusing and counter intuitive since you do not "eject" a usb stick you remove it . eject works as you would expect safely remove to work , eject unmounts the drive and it stays unmounted . NOTE! this also applies to usb hard drives . I have a vanilla maverick install and do not have either usbmount or pmount installed , usb drives are automatically mounted when plugged in and a nautilus window opens on the root dir of the drive . ** Affects: ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: New -- usb stick will not stay unmounted with safely remove https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/608508 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 576724] Re: Ubuntu grub2 dist-upgrades result in confusion
unfortunately the situation is even worse than portrayed here so far , the order of the drives as displayed by the installer is not the same as the BIOS order or the order as presented in Gparted (which I use for all formating and partitioning ) or even consistent from one release to the next . I test on a multi drive ( 6 hds 2 dvds ) box, multi partition 2 to 6 per drive and the only way to really know which is which is to label each partition with a distintive name . and BTW ubiquity sometime refuses to put grub ANYWHERE except the mbr fo what it is calling SDA ( which ) may infact actually be and IDE drive not a sata . some consistency please . -- Ubuntu grub2 dist-upgrades result in confusion https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/576724 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
