[Bug 366062] [NEW] User Management Missing From systemsettings
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 211985 *** https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/211985 Public bug reported: The systemsettings program on my upgraded Kubuntu 9.04 systems (two of them in front of me right now) don't show a user management icon. I've upgraded this system in-place from 6.10 all the way through 9.04, so this may be an issue with the upgrade process (I'm speculating). I first noticed this after my upgrade to Kubuntu 8.10, but forgot to report it since I can work around it via the command line. I have not tried going back through older distributions to try replicating this error, so I have no idea where to begin looking, or what information to provide that may help in determining a cause. [Bug 302881] [NEW] Package update reverted from nvidia 177.80 back to 169.12
Public bug reported: When the Kubuntu adept-notifier icon appeared with new software updates yesterday (Nov. 26, 2008), I clicked it and went through the normal software update procedure. When I rebooted this morning after installing extra RAM, I found that the nvidia driver had reverted from 177.80 back to the extraordinarily buggy 169.12. Looking through Adept's package listing, there is no longer any mention of version 177.80 (which is the only version that works well with KDE4). I have not installed an nvidia driver on Kubuntu from any source other than the official repositories. Afterwards, I installed a server kernel to take full advantage of my 8GB of RAM. I have since rebooted back into the non-server version of the kernel, and had the same results. Using the 168.12 driver causes spontaneous video death and extreme video corruption. [Bug 302881] Re: Package update reverted from nvidia 177.80 back to 169.12
If it's only available in Intrepid, then I must have remembered wrong. I have a number of Kubuntu systems, most on Intrepid but a couple still on Hardy, and I was reasonably sure that I seen 177.80 on this Hardy machine. But given what you've said, I must have mixed this up with a different machine. Thanks for the response, and go ahead and mark this as invalid. That said, the video still suddenly became terribly unstable after the last system update. If I boot into 2.6.24-19 using the 169.12 driver, it becomes stable. If I boot into 2.6.27-9 using the 169.12 driver, the video gets corrupt in less than a minute, then loses its signal to the monitor, and the machine becomes unresponsive to the keyboard until xorg eventually crashes. I must have put that together with my faulty recollection about where I have the 177.80 driver, and assumed I used to have it on this machine. -- Package update reverted from nvidia 177.80 back to 169.12 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/302881 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Just to be complete: upgrading to Intrepid got the 177.80 driver, as expected. [Bug 146453] Latest Update Breaks KDE
Public bug reported: System: Kubuntu 7.04 I have no idea how to reproduce this, but I thought I would report it anyway. When I noticed the update icon in my system tray, I ran through the normal update procedure. I noticed that large portions of KDE were being updated, and a new kernel was being updated. This is no problem, and happens regularly, so I proceeded with the upgrade. No errors were reported, and everything seemed to be fine. Since I was working, I decided to hold off rebooting until later (which ended up being three or four hours later). The reboot proceeded normally, and I logged in via kdm as usual. This is where things started going wrong. KDE went through its normal startup without any errors, and my entire previous session was restored. It just seemed to take a few seconds longer than usual for the session restore to start. When I selected an empty virtual desktop, I noted that all of my desktop icons were gone. The last program to be restored happened to be Konsole, which had keyboard focus. I pressed alt-f2 to bring up the run dialog, but all I got was the binary keyboard code showing in Konsole. I then tried to launch Run Command... from the K Menu, but nothing happened. I tried right-clicking on the K Menu, and Kicker froze. It didn't crash; it just froze. None of the KDE keyboard shortcuts worked (Control-Escape wouldn't bring up the ksysguard, for example). Right- clicking on an empty desktop did nothing. [Bug 146453] Re: Latest Update Breaks KDE
I have more information. I found that there were multiple copies of kded running (in this case, four copies). The first copy showed in ps aux as: kded [kdeinit] The other three showed as: kded [kdeinit] --new-startup kded [kdeinit] --new-startup kded [kdeinit] --new-startup I killed the three with --new-startup, and my desktop icons immediately returned, most KDE applications started working again (such as Konqueror and KMail), and the KDE shortcut keys immediately started working again. [Bug 111553] Re: Long delays on SSH login from an Ubuntu system
I can confirm this also. I can also confirm that installing krb5-config on Feisty 7.04 removes the excessive delay. Still no luck. I stopped the MythTV back end, removed mythtv and mythtv-database with, sudo apt-get --purge remove mythtv-database, and got: Removing mythtv ... Removing mythtv-database ... [Bug 109950] mythtv-database configuration cannot connect to MySQL database
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: mythtv-database I upgraded from Kubuntu Edgy to Feisty 7.04 using update-manager. Now apt-get (and anything that uses it, such as Adept) always reports an error with mythtv-database. The mythtv-database configuration always tries to connect to MySQL as the root user, but without a password. Since my MythTV setup existed prior to updating and my MySQL database already has a password assigned to the root user for use by Wordpress, the attempted connection to MySQL as a passwordless root user fails. I have correct mythtv login credentials for the mythtv user in /etc/mythtv/mysql.txt, but they appear to be ignored. ** Affects: mythtv (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: Unconfirmed -- mythtv-database configuration cannot connect to MySQL database https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/109950 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

This is the result of running sudo dpkg-reconfigure mythtv-database: /usr/sbin/dpkg-reconfigure: mythtv-database is broken or not fully installed I have already tried uninstalling and then reinstalling mythtv-database and mythtv, but that didn't help anything. MythTV is working, but I can't install anything without triggering the error messages. Installing other software packages is successful, so this problem isn't preventing installation of anything. [Bug 41339] Re: Mythtv won't install
I upgraded from Edgy to Feisty on Saturday, April 14, 2007 using update- manager (which worked very well until it encountered Myth), and ran into this problem on my previously functional MythTV setup. Now nothing will install via apt/adept without error messages. The most promising solution appeared to be, sudo dpkg-reconfigure mythtv-database, but that presents its own problem. When running that command, I get an error message saying: /usr/sbin/dpkg-reconfigure: mythtv-database is broken or not fully installed Prior to running that command, I had tried uninstalling and reinstalling mythtv-database and mythtv. Removal went okay, but reinstallation caused the root password problem to reappear. Since my web site runs on Wordpress and therefore requires MySQL, I have a pre-existing non- default root password. The mythtv-database installer does not appear to try acquiring the MySQL root password in any form, and so gets stuck. I am using 192.168.1.101 as the MySQL bind address since I want to allow my other networked MythTV front ends to connect to my server, and have allowed remote access to MySQL: grant all privileges on mythconverg.* to 'root'@'192.168.1.101' identified by '[my password]'; flush privileges; mythtv-database attempts to connect to MySQL without a root password in any event. -- Mythtv won't install https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/41339 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is a direct subscriber. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
