[Bug 1092621] Re: Ubuntu 12.10 does not support Google Nexus 4 phone in MTP mode

gmtp hanging for 20 seconds also occurs on my Galaxy Nexus.
Unfortunately I think this is "normal" behaviour under linux for mtp,
and not a Nexus 4 specific problem, Agree with Tony's bug that this is
an issue.

[Bug 121113] Re: After kernel upgrade acpi=off not put into grub menu.lst

I added this option but no luck.
Looks like this is something we'll just have to deal with - not very user
friendly though

[Bug 121113] After kernel upgrade acpi=off not put into grub menu.lst

2007-06-18 Thread stu_edgar
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: grub

To get Feisty to run on my ASUS AMD Motherboard I need to use add acpi=off into
the boot line.
This is fine, however when I choose to upgrade my kernel, while a new line gets
added to menu.lst,
the acpi=off text does not get added, and so the system hangs.
I can fix this up, however I help a few people run Ubuntu on home PCs and they
would not know how to fix
(i.e. boot into old kernel or recovery and hand edit menu.lst).
I would have thought upgrade-grub should search for acpi=off string (and maybe
others) and add to new kernel entry in menu.lst?
Or at least make old kernel default and asking user to check menu.lst
I don't think clicking upgrade and then not being to boot is very newbie user
friendly.
Thanks
Stuart

Subject: [Bug 94940] Re: mdns listed in nsswitch.conf causes excessive time for

This solution worked for me as well. I was experiencing slow pings, email
connections, etc. after installing Feisty. Editing /etc/nsswitch.conf with,
 hosts: files dns

seems to have resolved all these issues.

I did not notice any slow down with Edgy. I checked /etc/nsswitch.conf in my
Edgy, strangely it looks same as Feisty with,
  hosts: files mdns4_minimal [NOTFOUND=return] dns mdns4

Any explanation on why this worked fine in Edgy and not in Feisty?

Thanks for the help,
Jaya

[Bug 94940] Re: mdns listed in nsswitch.conf causes excessive time for dns lookups

2007-04-25 Thread stu_edgar
Thanks a lot Adam.
When I was looking at fixing this (before I found this thread)
I changed my hosts file from:
127.0.0.1 localhost
127.0.1.1
to:
127.0.0.1 localhost
127.0.1.1
Would that possibly create the timeout error? Otherwise I'm pretty standard
Feisty over a wireless network to a router.
I've changed DNS to openddns.com and no differences noted.
Any help troubleshooting this isseu woudl be appreciated - should I strace a
wget or something?
Thanks
Stuart

hosts: files mdns4_minimal [NOTFOUND=return] dns
is the best one.
My network performance in Feisty still a little off and below same set-up in

[Bug 106429] Can only see forecast or temperature not both at same time

2007-04-13 Thread stu_edgar
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-applets

In Gnome weather applet running on Dapper I can only see the temparature
or forecast for Perth, Australia, not both

Also, when I surf for www.bom.gov.au in Forefox I sometimes get directed to the
noaa site
My ISP says this is not their DNS server problem, and so do the bom.gov.au , so
I think it may be the applet
