[Bug 2065582] [NEW] there is no way to disable the onscreen keyboard
Public bug reported: I have an XPS13 and am running Ubuntu in xorg because that is required for my Plover stenotype program. The program uses an external keyboard. I need the onscreen keyboard disabled, because I am using the plover keyboard to input information, but I cannot do it, either through Settings / Accessibility / Typing or trying various terminal entries suggested by chatgpt. (It suggests disabling onboard, but the program was not installed, and installing it and then disabling it did nothing.) [Bug 1652270] Re: Could not boot into RPi3 with kernel 4.4.0-1038-raspi2
I had a non-conforming result: I imaged an microSD card with ubuntu-16.04-preinstalled-server- armhf+raspi3.img I tested three methods of editing the config.txt file to apply the above mentioned changes related to `device_tree_address=0x02008000` Test #1: edited the file before first boot. Then edited the config.txt file and rebooted again Result: first reboot was successful and the second reboot resulted in "script failed" error and timeouts attempting TFTP to get boot files It appeared that as soon as the device_tree_address was changed, the RPi3 would not boot after. [Bug 1547954] Re: incoming sound level too low when using USB sound cards.
I should mention that most "incoming volume" levels are set for music, which is quite loud on its own. But I do speech recognition, and my voice is normally soft, plus I must not annoy other people or strain my voice by speaking loudly. I do speech recognition for sometimes an hour at a time. My voice must be at normal or soft levels. Otherwise, I get hoarse. Skype / Google Talk have similar problems. Why do I have to act as if the person were across the room, rather than right next to me? Something needs to be done with the low levels, to suit what the machine is being used for on a productivity level rather than an entertainment level. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1547954 Title: incoming sound level too low when using USB sound cards. [Bug 1547954] [NEW] incoming sound level too low when using USB sound cards.
Public bug reported: I have LXDE and plain alsa installed. The outgoing volume is acceptable, but the incoming volume is very low. I have to turn it up all the way to get any kind of recognition in the speech recognition programs I use: dragon naturally speaking, and Google’s speech recognition, which I am using to type this. I have checked the volume with Audacity. When I turn the microphone up to 100%, that gives me what looks like a normal reading. But that shouldn't be normal, that should be loud. [Bug 1366546] Re: Ubuntu doesn't provide \EFI\BOOT\BOOTX64.EFI for UEFI systems
This may be the bug that is affecting me. I have a Lenovo Carbon 2. During about half the kernel updates in Utopic, the computer subsequently refused to boot. AT ALL. I had the bios setting set to dual, with UEFI first and legacy second. But changing bios setting to legacy did not work. My only solution was to re-install with a different kernel. (I went back to Trusty, which worked.) I have another Lenovo computer that did not have this problem at all, runs Utopic like a champ, with every update. I have been unable to file a bug report because I seem to have no useful information. I am worried because today, 10/29 Trusty installed kernel 39 during my morning updates. So I ran update-grub immediately to ascertain which kernel I was currently running, and which I would next boot into. My currently working kernel is 37. There is no difference in boot behavior between low-latency and generic. ) Found linux image: /boot/vmlinuz-3.13.0-39-lowlatency Found initrd image: /boot/initrd.img-3.13.0-39-lowlatency Found linux image: /boot/vmlinuz-3.13.0-39-generic Found initrd image: /boot/initrd.img-3.13.0-39-generic Found linux image: /boot/vmlinuz-3.13.0-37-lowlatency Found initrd image: /boot/initrd.img-3.13.0-37-lowlatency Found linux image: /boot/vmlinuz-3.13.0-37-generic Found initrd image: /boot/initrd.img-3.13.0-37-generic Adding boot menu entry for EFI firmware configuration done If I shut my computer down and then re-boot and I cannot boot, which is what I expect will happen, I will update this comment. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1366546 Title: Ubuntu doesn't provide \EFI\BOOT\BOOTX64.EFI for UEFI systems To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/grub2/+bug/1366546/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

That's what happens. No boot, no nothing. Ever. Black screen. No way to get to a grub menu or command line. Re: [Bug 1372149] Re: bzr-git does not preserve or ignore unknown extra fields
Hi Jelmer, AFAIK There isn't a parameter for users to disable extra headers when importing code into Github. https://porter.github.com/new Am I correct in understanding that you added the functionality in Dulwich to ignore extra headers so it wouldn't crash when encountering extra headers? http://git.661346.n2.nabble.com/extra-headers-in-commit-objects-td4508608.html Could you add this functionality to bzr-git, so that bzr-git would be compliant with the C git rule to ignore extra headers that aren't recognized, after the encoding header? On Tue, Oct 21, 2014 at 9:21 PM, Jelmer Vernooij 1372...@bugs.launchpad.net wrote: Hi Susan, See this thread, which sprung up on the Git list after I added support for extra commit headers in Dulwich: http://git.661346.n2.nabble.com /extra-headers-in-commit-objects-td4508608.html The consensus among Git developers seems to be that defining new header fields should be left up to the Git developers. What hg-git is doing goes against that. bzr-git doesn't completely adhere to the guidelines in that thread either since it doesn't just drop unknown fields. There are good reasons it can't just ignore headers it doesn't know about though. See my earlier comments for a more thorough explanation: Throwing an error when unknown fields are encountered is intended behaviour. bzr-git can't just drop unknown metadata since that makes it impossible to reserialize the original Git objects later. Reserializing is necessary since the original git objects are used as delta bases. bzr-git could store all unknown headers in an extra metadata field. We don't do this since it means we can't change the mapping of any unknown headers later without breaking all existing bzr-git users. Instead, since git commit header extensions are so rare, we require explicit support for them in bzr-git. Dulwich is used for parsing and creating Git objects in bzr-git; bzr-git doesn't use Dulwich to store data, it uses native Bazaar objects. Is your project itself maintained in Git or in Mercurial? If it is in Mercurial, you could disable the setting of extra headers in hg-git or alternatively run a cronjob somewhere that uses hg-fastexport and bzr- fastimport to create a bzr branch from a mercurial branch. -- You received this bug notification because you are subscribed to the bug report. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1372149 Title: bzr-git does not preserve or ignore unknown extra fields Status in bzr git support plugin: Confirmed Status in Valentina. Re: [Bug 1372149] [NEW] bzr-git does not preserve or ignore unknown extra fields
Hi Jelmer, Since no one is supporting bzr tools anymore, that leaves projects like mine (Valentina) permanently broken in Launchpad. The hg-git issue is that hg-git is now pulling *all* fields from hg into git, which isn't a bug, this is considered to be an improvement. According to the hg-git team, Dulwich either ignores or preserves additional fields that it doesn't recognize. The expectation is that bzr-git, which uses Dulwich, should also either ignore or preserve these fields, but instead bzr-git just crashes. It's too bad that Canonical has stopped supporting bzr tools. I heard a rumour that there was discussion about adding support for git on Launchpad to remove dependence on the dead bzr tools, but that this effort was not well received. Hi. I've got the same thing. Just to test, I scrubbed and re-installed Lubuntu, then contacted the wine ppa package manager to see if wine was involved. [Bug 371897]
Mh... Sorry, do you mean that you had to kill pulseaudio to get a good audio output, or that the patch works well with and without PA? On NatSpeak running in wine, I did not have to kill pulseaudio to get good audio. My understanding is (from looking at winecfg settings) that wine used alsa. And I think Linux/Firefox/YouTube used pulseaudio. I was using the same headset to dictate into Natspeak/wine and listen to YouTube/Linux. So the patch works well with and without. I am always looking for ways to make NatSpeak work faster and better because it's the only program I really care about, so I was happy to kill pulseaudio (and every other non-essential service). I'm a bit of a nut in that regard. [Bug 371897]
Please post your test results here, or email me directly if you prefer. Andrew, Hello. I compiled biarch wine using your patch, and I am very pleased with it. Background. I use wine to run Dragon NaturallySpeaking. NatSpeak is a resource hog and works best with Lubuntu and a low-latency kernel, which I have. But I had installed pulseaudio just to get wine sound working. NatSpeak needs to be installed in a 32-bit wine prefix because it is a 32-bit program with handles to make it run on 64-bit systems. Test. You patch installed problem-free. I tried running NatSpeak with my current wineprefix. It worked and then it didn't... I'm not sure what the problem was. So I created a new wine prefix and re-installed NatSpeak. Success. Winecfg showed me default and my two sound cards, including my Sennheiser PC363D headset. I have .asoundconfrc set to call up Card 1, so the default setting called up my headset. Hooray. Selecting the Sennheiser option in winecfg did NOT work. Boo. So then I tested it. Great sound. Great accuracy. Checked alsamixer. The settings showed it was being accessed and had set the volume in the microphone. Then, I opened a browser and tried a youtube video at the same time as NatSpeak on wine. Both worked simultaneously. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/371897 Title: Occasional sound drops in Wine via PulseAudio To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/wine/+bug/371897/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1285137] [NEW] e17 enlightenment desktop uses Sh-Alt-R and Ctl-Alt-R to change workspaces
Public bug reported: Enlightenment uses two separate keystroke combinations to change workspaces. Sh-Alt-rightarrow Ctl-Alt-rightarrow It should only use one. And that should be Ctl-Alt-right(or left) arrow. Reason. Sh-Alt-arrow is in use constantly in other programs, particularly EMACS org-mode, to promote and demote headings. [Bug 1284839] [NEW] unity-settings
Public bug reported: I installed with Dvorak as my default keyboard. English (US) is a backup #2 configuration. Today's problem is that my hotkeys don't work any more the way I expect them to. I press CTL-t in Dvorak (That is, CTL-k in Querty) and I get nothing. No Gnome-terminal. Problem is, I use Dvorak so much that I don't know where any of the querty keys are, except by hunting them down, and this does not seem to me to be a good idea. CTL-t should always be CTL-t, not some placement on the keyboard. CTL-y in Dvorak (CTL-t in Querty) gives me a terminal, and a headache. Second issue: When I boot up to the login screen, the keyboard doesn't work at all, even though it is set to Dvorak. I have to lower the little flag in the upper-right-hand corner and re-select it. Ditto after I log in. I have to lower the little flag and select Dvorak, even though it is the top selection and should be the default. [Bug 1271558] Re: recent upgrades reset permissions in home file incorrectly
The dvorak keyboard never actually works as the default, even though it's marked as such. I have to change to Dvorak manually twice, once at the login screen to enter my password, and then again after I'm logged in. [Bug 1271558] Re: recent upgrades reset permissions in home file incorrectly
Hi, Maarten, it is a very small world, and good to see you. :) This bug has been frustrating me because it's a system-stopper for me. What's more, when I filed it, I assumed it would have dozens of duplicates. Since it doesn't, I assume it's something specific to my system or configuration. The permissions get changed, I believe in an ordinary apt-get update and apt-get dist-upgrade when the kernel is upgraded. But I'm not sure. There may be other candidates. But my system is so simple that I've written down everything I do, hoping that something jumps out. 1. Install plain-vanilla Ubuntu 64-bit on my Lenovo X230 Tablet with the Dvorak keyboard 2. Enable the Ubuntu wine and libreoffice ppas 3. apt-get update 4. apt-get dist-upgrade 5. apt-get install wine git bleachbit azureus ccal le hnb 6. apt-get build-dep emacs24 7. pull the git repos for emacs and org-mode, compile without sudo and install emacs with sudo 8. install NaturallySpeaking. 9. run bleachbit. I have enabled every feature except the following: firefox passwords, System / cache and free disk space. When I log on, I usually cannot put my password in until I check English (Dvorak) in that little box in the corner, even though it is option #1 and already selected. Every morning I repeat steps 34, then pull the repos for emacs and org-mode, re-make and reinstall emacs. Then I re-run bleachbit, and re-boot. I don't always know right when my permissions have changed because I only work with a few files, and those are usually TXT. But usually (and this has happened three times) after a kernel upgrade, I'll try to log on and Unity / Compiz doesn't come up because the permissions have been re-set. Usually I CTL-M-F1 for a prompt, change /home/susan/ to my ownership recursively, and then it'll work again, but not for long. Once I changed /susan to +rwx recursively, too. Bleachbit is the obvious screwup candidate, because I run it with sudo and it looks at a lot of files. It also gives me this error message when it starts: (bleachbit:2398): IBUS-WARNING **: The owner of /home/susan/.config/ibus/bus is not root! [Bug 1271558] [NEW] recent upgrades reset permissions in home file incorrectly
Public bug reported: I had not changed the permissions for any files in my home folder. However, two recent upgrades have changed critical permissions that allow me to log in, probably for .Xauthority, .dmrc and/or .bashrc. The result was that twice, when I re-booted after an upgrade, my logon screen led me to a blank wallpaper with nothing working. (Logging in as a guest was fine.) When I got in through a rescue disk and attempted to copy files to a thumb drive, I discovered that random of my user-created /home/name subfiles had been assigned permissions that did not allow me to access them. ??? Anyway, I tried various CTL-ALT-1 fixes to re-set permissions from the Ubuntu web site. I tried changing the owner / permissions for just /home/ then just /home/name then a couple of suggestions that put the settings into default mode, including changing all /home/name dot-something folders to user +rwx. Nothing worked. Finally I just changed the entire /home/user folder to my ownership, +rwx recursively, and that worked. [Bug 1250424] [NEW] compiz does not start with correct keyboard configuration
Public bug reported: English (Dvorak) is my default keyboard, and English (US) is my secondary. But when I boot up, it boots into QUERTY. How do I know Compiz is at fault? Yesterday for some reason Compiz didn't start, and I thoughtlessly pressed CTL-ALT-T for a text box, using Dvorak, and gnome-terminal came right up. I typed in Compiz, and Compiz came up, but I had lost my Dvorak keyboard. [Bug 1238346] [NEW] on bootup wrong keyboard layout is recognized
Public bug reported: This is a regression. I have two keyboard layouts activated, the Dvorak and the English US. The Dvorak should be the default keyboard. That is the way I have it set up, and it shows up in the task bar on top as En1, which is the Dvorak. However, when I start to type, it starts in QUERTY. ?? To correct this, I go to the task bar (where it shows EN1, or Dvorak), re-select the Dvorak, and then everything is fine. ?? [Bug 1226593] [NEW] lightdm does not configure mouse for change to vertical view
Public bug reported: I have a Lenovo X230 Tablet, a machine with a touch screen, a mouse pad and a track button (that little red thing in the middle). It would be of great benefit to me to be able to change the screen occasionally from horizontal to vertical orientation. But when I do so, the mice don't work. None of them. [Bug 1216292] [NEW] top program bar does not work with lenovo touchpad -- regression
Public bug reported: So I woke up this morning (24-Aug-13) and my synaptic touchpad works to move the mouse but the buttons do not work on metacity components such as those three little circles in the upper left, nor to re-position the box, nor the side sliders. Keystroke commands work fine, as does my Lenovo touch screen. But the buttons to my synaptics touch pad seem to be non-operational. So I blamed metacity, because it wasn't recognizing the input from my touchpad buttons. The problem could also, of course, be with the drivers somehow. Funny, that little red button in the middle of my Lenovo typepad doesn't seem to work at all, but I usually don't use it so I'm not sure if the issues are connected. [Bug 1192588] [NEW] pulseaudio sets certain input volumes too low
Public bug reported: I have been testing my new Logitech H800 headset. The input sound volume is set much too low. [Bug 1106914] [NEW] Compiz top menu bar does not install gnome-shell-timer applet
Public bug reported: Ubuntu now has the option of downloading the gnome-shell-timer (a WONDERFUL little program) but then the expected icon does not appear on the upper-right menubar, and the timer does not appear to work correctly. I miss this timer very much. The other downloadable timer options are inconvenient and fussy, and require many keystrokes. They are also likely to integrate into some billing system that I don't need or use. [Bug 1106938] [NEW] system setting brightness does not save; reverts to default high on next boot
Public bug reported: I have a computer that I use unplugged quite a bit, and like the back-light setting to be low. So I go to System Settings / brightness and lock, and set the pointer about halfway up. This setting does not save between boots. All my other settings seem to save, so am wondering why this is different? It shouldn't be. [Bug 1102675] [NEW] [LENOVO 3434CTO] suspend/resume failure
Public bug reported: This was an automatically generated bug. But the suspend / resume has been flaky. And isn't it supposed to take no power to be on suspend? Mine continues to suck power, leaving me to suspect that the function does not work all the time. However, the suspend / resume that generated this error is from an attempt by me to shut down the computer. I selected ShutDown, then waited until the lights were off before closing the lid, but apparently the shutdown process had not gone all the way and the suspend function kicked in.
