[Bug 1097570] Re: grub2-signed can not find the right device when there are two filesystems containing the file '.disk/info'.

2024-06-13 Thread Mate Kukri
Due to the age of this issue, and/or unsupported/outdated Ubuntu
versions in question, I'm closing this issue.

The only currently supported release mentioned here is 'Trusty Tahr'
which is strictly in Extended Security Maintenance, this bug does not
seem to identify any security issues.

If anyone is still experiencing this issue in modern Ubuntu releases,
please feel free to comment on this issue, and/or open a new one.

[Bug 1062623] Re: enable grub-2.00 boot-from-luks support

2024-06-13 Thread Mate Kukri
Encrypted /boot partitions isn't a currently supported configuration.
Despite this signed UEFI GRUBs have the `luks` module built-in for
backwards compatibility with some old setups, we have no plans to
include `luks2` or support more modern encrypted /boot setups going
forward.

For full disk encryption on modern Ubuntu, I recommend looking into the
current password based or TPM FDE options provided by the Ubuntu
installer.

[Bug 2069039] Re: Disk password prompt isn't shown in external monitor

2024-06-13 Thread Sergio Costas
I probably can do, but as I said, I think that this configuration is
more and more common thanks to USB-C (you can just connect one cable and
have a desktop system). But, of course, without objective data about
real usage, all we have are just opinions, so I agree in that it's
better to close this and wait to see if more people reports this as a
problem. In my case, it's fixed with that trick.

[Bug 2069299] [NEW] kernel 6.5.0-1024-oem breaks Thinkpad dockstation video

2024-06-13 Thread Leopoldo Pena
Public bug reported:

After yesterday kernel update to 6.5.0-1024-oem in Ubuntu 22.04-4 the
external monitors connected to a Thinkpad Thunderbolt 4 dockstation
stopped working. Ethernet, power and usb continue to work.

Restarting system in grub to kernel 6.5.0-1023-oem fixes this problem
and monitors start working again

My laptop is a Thinkpad Z16 gen2 with AMD Ryzen 9 Pro GPU.

[Bug 2062380] Re: Using a 6.8 kernel 'modprobe nvidia' hangs on Quanta Grace Hopper

2024-06-13 Thread Eduard de Vidal Flores
The problem does not persist in newer versions of the driver. As such,
it will be fixed once the new drivers are released.

Additionally, in investigating the problem it seems that enabling the
flag does NOT fix the problem. As such, there is no benefit to adding
the flag in any case.

Considering this done.

[Bug 2054301] Re: [worker/event] Some child processes aren't killed on reload (graceful), being stuck in state "Sending Reply", leaving old logfiles open, disk fills up, server stops responding after

2024-06-13 Thread ekomc
Thanks a lot for the reply.

It seem a bit different then, the "crash" we experienced occurred immediately
after reloads.
The leftover processes seem to prevent it from completing properly and websites
aren't accessible even if the Apache status reports the service as running.

I didn't find someone with this exact issue but every similar case I
found pointed toward the mpm & php modules.

I tried migrating from mpm_prefork to mpm_event, disabled mod_php and switched
to php-fpm.
So far, the issue seems solved. I'll keep an eye on it and report back if it
happens again.

[Bug 2069293] [NEW] Autopkgtests failing due to new git 2.45

2024-06-13 Thread Danilo Egea Gondolfo
Public bug reported:

The step where the ikiwiki-hosting managed git repository is cloned is
failing:

git clone git://foo.example.com/source.git
Cloning into 'source'...
fatal: Could not read from remote repository.

Please make sure you have the correct access rights
and the repository exists.

The reason is that the new git doesn't trust it:

2024-06-13T12:06:08.678455+00:00 autopkgtest-lxd-xukspx git-daemon[7458]:
[7458] Interpolated dir '/var/lib/ikiwiki-hosting-web/git/foo.example.com'
2024-06-13T12:06:08.678481+00:00 autopkgtest-lxd-xukspx git-daemon[7458]:
fatal: detected dubious ownership in repository at
'/var/lib/ikiwiki-hosting-web/git/foo.example.com.git'
2024-06-13T12:06:08.678504+00:00 autopkgtest-lxd-xukspx git-daemon[7458]: To
add an exception for this directory, call:
2024-06-13T12:06:08.678526+00:00 autopkgtest-lxd-xukspx git-daemon[7458]:
#011git config --global --add safe.directory
/var/lib/ikiwiki-hosting-web/git/foo.example.com.git

I suspect that this change in behavior is related to recent git CVEs:

[Bug 1970389] Re: [nvidia] Janky text entry and frames appear out of order in Xwayland apps

2024-06-13 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Tested on Oracular finally (Nvidia 535). It's a lot better but still not
perfect. Frames don't seem to be out of order anymore but there is an
annoying lag when typing text in Google Chrome for example. I'm not sure
that's still this same bug but it might explain why the upstream bug
https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/xorg/xserver/-/issues/1317 remains open.
In https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/xorg/xserver/-/merge_requests/967
Nvidia says it doesn't fix issue 1317 alone and that "Additional changes
in the NVIDIA driver would also be required."

** Also affects: nvidia-graphics-drivers (Ubuntu)
   Importance: Undecided
   Status: New

** Changed in: nvidia-graphics-drivers (Ubuntu Noble)

[Bug 2069260] Re: Gnome black screen at boot

2024-06-13 Thread Raffaele Rialdi
Please note that this configuration worked correctly before upgrading Ubuntu
23.10 to Ubuntu 24.04.
For some reason Ubuntu 24 removed the NVidia proprietary driver version 545,
therefore I had to downgrade it to version 535.
Apart from this, there are no other changes.
Thanks

2024-06-13 Thread Willem van de Velde
Hello, i have rebuild the debian sid package on ubuntu to see if this
fixes the issue.

The binary from that package seems to work.

Can this be ported to ubuntu 24.04 to make use of python and docker
possible again?

Best regards,

[Bug 2069283] [NEW] autopkgtest-build-lxd: check for existing image early

2024-06-13 Thread Heinrich Schuchardt
Public bug reported:

autopkgtest-build-lxd fails if an image already exists with an error
like

Error: Aliases already exists: autopkgtest/ubuntu/noble/amd64

*after* creating the new image which takes a considerable amount of
time.

This is wasting user time. It would be preferable to have an early check
and recommend to the user to use 'lxc image delete' if he wishes to
recreate the image.

We might additionally consider adding a --force parameter allowing to
overwrite images.

[Bug 2069261] Re: NV T400E use wrong nv driver

2024-06-13 Thread Rex Tsai
The support model has been updated. The kernel team has decided to adopt
the Long-term-support (LTS) version, R535, to support the existing card.
Only new cards will be added to the new production branch, R550.

Although the OEM user recommends shipping with R550, the OEM team will
accommodate the implementation in the modealias of the driver and
ubuntu-driver to ship R535 for the NV T400E.

The QA team will test it to identify any issues.

2024-06-13 Thread emreozkapi
Hello Daniel,

Thanks for your perspective. But i could not find where it's grounded.

You said replacing the drive fixed the issue, but your act to change the
drive to solve the problem, might be well meaning the software problem
as well.

My NVME have much free space. There's no evidence of drive failure. And
when i deleted the packages i mentioned above, the system got faster.

I will update that issue, once i reinstall the system.

[Bug 2054799] Re: [SRU] Issue with Project administration at Cloud Admin level

2024-06-13 Thread Hua Zhang
Charmed OpenStack ends at jammy, sunbeam to be supported on noble
forwards, and there's also currently not a sunbeam build for noble yet.
So currently I am unable to use charm to build a noble test env for
verifcation. I have to build a jammy-caracal test env instead of noble-
caracal. Considering that the openstack version caracal(2024.1) is the
base version of ubuntu version noble and this patch is only related to
python, I think it should be feasible to verify 4:24.0.0-0ubuntu1.1 in
jammy instead of noble.

Here are my test results for jammy-caracal, it works.

BEFORE - https://imgur.com/XjJKz77
AFTER using 4:24.0.0-0ubuntu1.1 - https://i.imgur.com/9HxuMhU.png

[Bug 2069039] Re: Disk password prompt isn't shown in external monitor

2024-06-13 Thread Daniel van Vugt
I feel that photo kind of proves my point about how uncommon the
situation is. Not invalid, just uncommon.

I also wonder if you could trick the laptop into using the external
monitor as primary? Maybe if you can configure the BIOS to turn the
machine on in response to USB keyboard/mice while the laptop is fully
closed. Then there would only be one screen during boot and in theory
the bug would never occur.

[Bug 2069039] Re: Disk password prompt isn't shown in external monitor

2024-06-13 Thread Sergio Costas
I have to disagree. I attach a picture of my workbench, where you can
see that I have an external monitor as the main display, and the laptop
is just behind because I don't use its screen. As you can see, I have
to, literally, look over the monitor to be able to know when do I have
to type the password and to know if I typed it right, because the
external display won't turn on until after it has been typed. This kind
of configuration is becoming more and more common thanks to USB-C: use
the laptop in a "classic desktop mode" at home, just disabling the
builtin screen, and keeping it only for the cases where the laptop is
used outside home, so I'm sure that we will begin to receive more and
more complains about this as more and more people migrate to 24.04.

[Bug 2068804] Re: very very very slow even though a quite well system

2024-06-13 Thread Daniel van Vugt
The fact that Windows survives drive errors better than Linux isn't
really surprising and doesn't prove anything on its own. But it might be
useful to run some testing tools on the drive from within Windows in
that case.

[Bug 2068804] Re: very very very slow even though a quite well system

2024-06-13 Thread Daniel van Vugt
OK well it sounds like an NVMe hardware failure to me. That might be the
drive, might be the motherboard, or it might just be a software bug. I'm
not totally sure. But the freezes and behaviour you describe fit
perfectly with an NVMe failure. I had one on a laptop of my own a few
weeks ago and the symptoms were exactly the same. Replacing the drive
fixed it for me.

[Bug 2069148] Re: display black on boot, updated from 23.10 to 24.04

2024-06-13 Thread Michael Huebbers
Many thanks for the helpful response!
I can confirm, that the 470 driver does not work with GT 730, it falls back to
VESA VGA with 1024x768.
The nouveau driver works with the kernel 6.5.0-41-generic, selected from grub
menu.
With the actual kernel 6.8.0 the nouveau driver shows up only a black screen.

[Bug 2067460] Re: Amavisd crashes when calling external command /usr/bin/altermime after updated to 2.12.2-1ubuntu1.1

2024-06-13 Thread Zhang Huangbin
The link in your first reply happened 12 YEARS ago, and things changed a
lot.

We run Amavisd-new without modifying its (Perl) source code since day
one, and just updating its config file `/etc/amavis/conf.d/50-user` to
implement features we need.

2024-06-13 Thread emreozkapi
But it's weird, because Windows is running fine.

Now i am checking the logs, and after a bit research those errors are
only resulted from an unsupported vendor specific log pages.
