[Bug 1003309] Re: Boot fails after installing updates, error: “cryptsetup: evms_activate is not available"

2013-02-21 Thread the_nipper
hm, lvm and cryptsetup reside in initrd, since I can use them at
initramfs-prompt:

initramfs> cryptsetup luksOpen /dev/sda2 lda
...enter password...
initramfs> exit
...boot cont'd...

So, theres no missing software. It's a logical problem.

Actually, after another

update-initramfs -v -k all -c
update-grub

I see my lubuntu boot screen with blinking points but with NO input line
for the crypt password. That remains for some more seconds as usual.

Then it falls down to initramfs prompt.

After manually cryptsetup and exit (see above), the boot continues and
the boot screen flickers WITH the input line for the crypt password, but
only for a second or less.

Then the lightdm screen appears and I can login.

This seems to me as if the sequence of steps is wrong, anyway: no input
line first, but some timeout for decrypt? Input line thereafter when
decrypt has been manually done.

[Bug 1003309] Re: Boot fails after installing updates, error: “cryptsetup: evms_activate is not available"

2013-02-20 Thread the_nipper
Hard to find this long-term bug report now.
I have this problem too, since a few minutes.

Today, I did a dist-upgrade on my laptop with lubuntu 12.04, including
new kernel 3.2.0-38-generic, and found myself unable to decrypt the LVM
partition that contains root-fs and home.

kernel 3.2.0-35 which operates well before update, has the same error
now. For me, this indicates a problem in the upgrade procedure but not
in the new kernel.

I am able to reach the data via the rescue mode of the lubuntu alternate
CD. Also, the workaround described above by jorn-g (#48) works for me.

Maybe a new(?) helpfull fact: After using the workaround, I did

update-initramfs -v -k all -u

and collected the sterr and stdout for analysis.
And, stderr tells exactly two lines (one for each of the two installed kernel
versions):

cryptsetup: WARNING: invalid line in /etc/crypttab for lda -

'lda' is the name of the LVM volume group that resides on the encryptet
partition!

[Bug 289874] Re: apt-cacher-ng problems with Release[.gpg]

2008-10-29 Thread the_nipper
In deed, Ubuntu's apt-cacher-ng version 0.1.9 is old :-(

As recommended, I installed 0.3.2 from Debian mirror, and the problem
seems to have gone immediately :-)

Thank you.

[Bug 289874] [NEW] apt-cacher-ng problems with Release[.gpg]

2008-10-27 Thread the_nipper
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: apt-cacher-ng

Using Ubuntu Hardy AMD64 server.
Package is apt-cacher-ng 0.1.9-1

apt-cacher-ng runs as proxy (server) for several hosts (clients) which do a
daily apt-get update.
Entries in sources.list are as follows:

deb http://apt-proxy:/de.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ hardy main restricted
universe multiverse
deb-src http://apt-proxy:/de.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ hardy main
restricted universe multiverse
deb http://apt-proxy:/de.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ hardy-updates main
restricted universe multiverse
deb-src http://apt-proxy:/de.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ hardy-updates main
restricted universe multiverse
deb http://apt-proxy:/security.ubuntu.com/ubuntu hardy-security main
restricted universe multiverse
deb-src http://apt-proxy:/security.ubuntu.com/ubuntu hardy-security main
restricted universe multiverse

This works well for some days.

What happens: From one day to the next, apt-get update fails on the
clients with this error message:

...
OK http://apt-proxy hardy Release
Hole:6 http://apt-proxy hardy-updates Release [58,5kB]
Fehl http://apt-proxy hardy-updates Release

OK http://apt-proxy hardy-security Release
...
W: A error occurred during the signature verification. The repository is not
updated and the previous index files will be used.GPG error: http://apt-proxy
hardy-updates Release: Die folgenden Signaturen waren ungültig: BADSIG
40976EAF437D05B5 Ubuntu Archive Automatic Signing Key <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
...

The Release on the server is actual, but it isn't transferred to the
clients.

The only way to force it is to clear the actual Release-files on the
server(!) _for_each_client_, and then to re-run apt-get update on the
client. The server gets the files again from the mirror, and
transferres them to this client. md5sum shows that the files are
identical now.

For all other clients, the error remains. I have to proceed to clear
the Release-files on the server for each client. With about 20 clients,
this is highly uncomfortable.

entries in *.err) of example client 172.16.2.5
