[Bug 224130] Re: Hardy: Graphics driver not in use
Some additional comments: In System Settings Monitor Display Hardware the Graphics card and Driver are both fglrx. Doesn't this contradict the not in use text in Hardware Drivers Manager? However, the graphics are painfully slow and direct rendering is off so I guess the Hardware Drivers Manager is right. P.S: I have the drivers manager in System/Administration/Hardware Drivers Manager. Yes, I have too. [Bug 182362] Impossible to print on custom paper size
Public bug reported: In most printers the paper is positioned at the CENTER of the paper tray. Clearly the printed stuff should also be centered in order to match the paper position. However, when printing a custom sized document on an equally sized paper (say 13x18 cm) things are always being printed to the RIGHT of the tray, as if the paper size was large, e.g. A4 or Letter and as a result the print has a completely wrong offset on the small 13x18 paper in the printer (the print is being positioned halfway outside the paper). It therefore seems to be completely impossible to print a custom sized document on an equally sized paper. Every tool I have tried produce this wrong print. E.g. openoffice, acroread and kpdf. [Bug 181453] Display configuration does not work
Public bug reported: In Kubuntu/Hardy it is not possible to change display settings as the module cannot be loaded and it is therefore impossible to configure a dual screen with an extra monitor to a laptop. Actually, attaching a secondary screen to a laptop has always been a pain and practically impossible for all non-geeks which - as I - finds it a complete no go to edit xorg.conf manually. Now, with xorg7.3 in Hardy it should (theoretically) be easy for the user to plug in a new monitor to his laptop in order to obtain an extended desktop AND plug it out again when he leaves the office. (AND plug in another and *different* monitor with a different resolution as he arrives at a new place, e.g. at home). So in future alpha/beta-releases, please please please make an effort to at least make sure the display config is available, so we can test it. [Bug 156576] Kubuntu wish: Save current display settings as...
Public bug reported: First some motivation: At work I have an extra monitor of type A connected to my laptop. This monitor has certain resolution characteristics, is placed to the *right* of the laptop, has adjusted gamma/brightness/contrast in a certain way and the display if functioning as an extended desktop. In the meeting room, I connect the projector to the laptop but this projector should just display a mirror of my primary display on the laptop - in a lower resolution, however. At home I have connected another monitor of type B, but this is placed to the *left* of the laptop with another configuration of gamma/brightness/contrast and with other resolution characteristics. The wish: I would like to be able to easily switch between each location specific display configuration without having to redo all the configuration work manually each time I switch location (which happens several times a day!). Solution suggestion: In the display configuration in System Settings, a save current config button could be added together with a text input widget allowing the user to save the current configuration together with a label (e.g. work, meeting room or home). The user should be able to restore a saved display config by simply selecting it from a dropdown menu showing all the saved display configs. It should, of course, be possible to adjust a saved configuration with updated parameter settings. Optimally, the dropdown menu should also be available as a desktop applet, allowing the user to switch display config directly, without having to visit System Settings - Display Config. ** Affects: ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Kubuntu wish: Save current display settings as... https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/156576 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 122936] Re: Burning an audio CD is completely impossible
I would indeed consider it as a bug: 1) Burning a CD from MP3 should just work - out of the box. Currently it doesn't. Far from. No mom/girlfriend would currently ever be able to perform this simple task alone. 2) Installing an MP3 codec should not just enable MP3 for *some* applications. Especially K3B should at least be easily upgradeable to MP3 support. However it should even more just support MP3 out of the box. -- Burning an audio CD is completely impossible https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/122936 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kubuntu Team, which is a bug contact for amarok in ubuntu. -- kubuntu-bugs mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/kubuntu-bugs
[Bug 122936] Re: Burning an audio CD is completely impossible
What most other distros does is somewhat irrelevant, I think. The point is that many people (myself inclusive) just wants things to work. I don't want to mess around with complicated codec installations for various applications just in order to solve simple every-day tasks (note that MP3 in Amarok works just fine, but for some reason, K3B needs its own codec installation). Especially for such an extremely common codec as MP3. So all-in-all: It is not possible to burn a CD from a bunch of MP3s in a fresh Kubuntu installation if you are a normal non-geek/technical human. -- Burning an audio CD is completely impossible https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/122936 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

If I have no mp3-encoder installed, why am I presented to the Extract Digital Audio with k3b option in the first place? * Installing KAudioCreator (manually!) gives me yet another option but not even here can I proceed without making a bunch of complicated modifications: There is still no mp3-encoding available and in order to configure e.g. encoding bitrate I have to manually edit an argument text string. [Bug 121845] CD ripping into a artist/album directory hierarchy is nearly impossible
Public bug reported: In order to convert my entire CD collection to mp3, I would like to store all ripped mp3-files in a artist/album hierarchy. Automatically! A very simple task but nevertheless nearly impossible on a fresh Kubuntu Feisty install: * If I just open the audio cd in konqueror there is a WAV and an OGG dir but no mp3-dir. Why is the mp3-codec not installed as default? * With the mp3 codec installed, the mp3-folder does only contain the very mp3-files. Not an artist/album directory hierarchy, so I have to make this myself. A total no-go if you are about to rip a ton of CDs. * When right clicking on the Audio CD icon on the desktop and selecting Extract Digital Audio with k3b, it (k3b) says that an mp3 encoder has to be installed and gives a very technical instruction on how to do this. [Bug 118444] MesaGL drivers makes blender windows lock / freeze / mess up
Public bug reported: I'm using kubuntu feisty with blender and there is something terribly wrong with the graphics drivers (as of the below fact 3 I guess that the problem is in the MesaGL driver). I use a Matrox G550 graphics card. Fact 1: Blender 2.41 works, but graphics drawing (window updating) is somewhat slow Fact 2: Blender 2.43 (fullscreen) from the ubuntu repos is fast, but locks up / freezes the entire desktop when multiple windows are present. E.g. when the render result window is opened. Just before the freeze I noticed that moving the render result window around caused the below main screen to mess up completely. Also the window moving was slow. The windowed version of blender 2.43 also freezes completely and has slow window moving, but here it is possible to close blender from the window manager instead of rebooting. Fact 3: Blender 2.44 has most of the same graphics drawing problems as 2.43. But: If I download the version with statically linked MesaGL [1] the graphics drawing works perfectly stable. However, it is slow as 2.41 was. Public bug reported: After upgrading to Feisty the driver for my audiophile 2496 sound card isn't loaded properly: Just after boot, I can do a: # cat /proc/asound/cards 0 [nForce2]: NFORCE - NVidia nForce2 NVidia nForce2 with ALC650E at 0xeb081000, irq 16 1 [U0x46d0x8ad]: USB-Audio - USB Device 0x46d:0x8ad USB Device 0x46d:0x8ad at usb-:00:02.2-2.1.3, full speed 2 [UART ]: MPU-401 UART - MPU-401 UART MPU-401 UART at 0x330, irq 10 in which the audiophile card doesn't appear. Next, I do the following: # rmmod snd-intel8x0 snd-mpu401 # modprobe snd-ice1712 and now the audiophile card appears in the list: # cat /proc/asound/cards 0 [M2496 ]: ICE1712 - M Audio Audiophile 24/96 M Audio Audiophile 24/96 at 0x9000, irq 20 1 [U0x46d0x8ad]: USB-Audio - USB Device 0x46d:0x8ad USB Device 0x46d:0x8ad at usb-:00:02.2-2.1.3, full speed My conclusion is that there is something wrong with the module loading at boot time as M2496 apparently conflicts with nForce2. ** Affects: Ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: Unconfirmed -- audiophile 2496 driver isn't loaded https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/116699 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 108187] Re: No (easy) way to configure default sound card in Kubuntu
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 31893 *** https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/31893 This bug is NOT a duplicate of Bug 31893! This bug is about providing a user friendly way of managing multiple sound cards while bug 31893 is about a commandline tool named asoundconf. A commandline tool is NOT a solution as it is NOT user friendly. No girlfriend/mom/grandmom will ever figure it out. A solution will be an easy-to-use dropdown list of available sound cards in the KDE Sound settings dialog. There should be two such dropdown lists: Default interface for playback and default interface for recording. [Bug 108288] Re: Audio is played in slow motion
With help from a friendly person in #alsa on freenode I got a (rather simple) fix. In /usr/share/alsa/alsa.conf defaults.pcm.dmix_format S16_LE was changed to defaults.pcm.dmix_format S32_LE Then everything worked. -- Audio is played in slow motion https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/108288 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
