[Bug 797954] [NEW] Keyboard shortcuts doesn't work in small windows

2011-06-15 Thread trespasser
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: tomboy

Experienced on Ubuntu 11.10 Classic Gnome Session with Tomboy ver.
1.6.0-0ubuntu3

To reproduce
- open new note
- shrink the window until all the top menu buttons collapse to a drop-down list
- keyboard shortcuts do not work unless previously invoked via menu from
drop-down list

I didn't test this on:
- other Tomboy versions
- Unity Gnome Session
- other operating systems

It looks like some kind of monitoring daemon listening for keypress
events is being inactive when the top menu button (corresponding with
given keyboard shortcut) is hidden and it awakes after the function
(any function available under this button) is called.

Cheers,
Cypr

[Bug 708382] Re: cannot create custom preferred applications

2011-04-09 Thread trespasser
If I may (as it might not be related but then please direct me to the
correct branch) I can no longer override any of the fixed applications
settings, e.g. system terminal:

1. GNOME Terminal is already one of the predefined applications,
2. choose Custom,
3. put in gnome-terminal as a command,
4. as soon as you put l in the text field, selection switches to predefined
GNOME Terminal with fixed -x flag, therefore you cannot add any more flags
like --full-screen for that matter.

So, when fixing this lack of customisation for e-mail, please, remember
about removing described above behaviour as well.

[Bug 553162] Re: Set $LANGUAGE if the user picks a different locale in gdm, so that language-selector and gdm stop disagreeing

2010-12-12 Thread trespasser
It gives me SO much headache. I understand what I propose is a separate
approach but can someone please specify what drawbacks lie behind
creating a language-creator instead of language-selector? There are
only 10 types of users: those finding default language settings for
their country convenient and those needing custom locale files. So why
there's no creator that would allow to specify system messages language,
date in a form of %Y-%M-%D or -MM-DD, put in a decimal separator,
currency name, first day of the week and so on? It would auto-normalize
after a time by users' statistics (e.g. it can automatically sent
statistics after a few days without changes to the locales and after the
user agrees) so every popular scheme would come up shortly and could
be coming predefined with new system distributions. Why do I have to
trying out all the locales one by one to find out where's the one with
convenient date, or decimal separator, with learning whole lang file
structure and creating one myself as the only alternative? Language-
selector, when fixed, will only allow to speed-up the trying out part
but after trying every default set I will still end up editing files I
do not understand. Your approach gives only N/M-1 probability of
satisfying the user, where N is the number of prepared sets and M is the
number of possible language/country combinations. And those are small
chances.

[Bug 689464] [NEW] playing wrong file in Rhythmbox

2010-12-12 Thread trespasser
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-do

I searched for duplicates, no similar results for rhythmbox. This
regards official Rhythmbox plug-in for gnome-do.

1) Ubuntu 10.10, Release: 10.10
2) gnome-do: 0.8.3.1+dfsg-2ubuntu1, rhythmbox: 0.13.1-0ubuntu6
3) I search in Rhythmbox library typing: Vader - Sword, hit tab, choose
Play an item in Rhythmbox. Rhythmbox should play Vader - Sword of the
Witcher.
4) It plays a different song: Godsmack - I stand alone. After removing
several tracks from library and drive the same steps play another song:
Godsmack - Make me bad which lies just a little higher in the music library.

I checked on many songs, albums and artists and some work fine while
some point to different piece of music. I guess it has something to do
with how this plug-in indexes it's local cache or something. How to
refresh it? How to help you confirming this bug?

[Bug 655427] Re: language-selector installs unwanted translations breaking the interface

2010-11-09 Thread trespasser
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 553162 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/553162

@Gunnar
I agree this is a duplicate to the certain point but (please, correct me if I
am wrong or missed something in discussion on bug 553162) your patch makes sure
$LANG, $LANGUAGE and $LC_MESSAGES all point to the same language. My issue is
to separate those variables as I want to see Polish currency (zł or PLN) but
English/US decimal separator (. instead of ,) as well as Polish date format
(2010-11-10) but English name of days (Wednesday instead of Środa) and Polish
days order (weeks in Poland traditionally starts on Monday).

Therefore, in my opinion, language-selector should be reduced to
choosing a language only and more advanced changes should be done in
custom locale editor (such thing should be introduced). What's more,
standard regarding locale should be better documented and guidance for
developers on using particular locale variables should be outlined with
strong examples.

[Bug 669493] Re: apt-get ignores some repositories

2010-11-06 Thread trespasser
BTW even when you uninstall additional languages, apt still tries to
download translations for those languages, and often downloads packages
in language different than the default system setting. Is this material
for another bug? It definitively regards System - Preferences -

mess in here. Or should I?

[Bug 655427] [NEW] language-selector installs unwanted translations breaking the interface

2010-10-05 Thread trespasser
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: language-selector

It was in Ubuntu since I remember. Installed 10.10 and problem still
persists:

1. I install Ubuntu in English,
2. System - Administration - Language Support,
3. it suggests me to install english language packs - which is GOOD, but then...
4. I make sure English (United Kingdom) is selected for menus, interface, etc.,
systemwide,
5. I select ONLY writing aids, etc., for Polish,
6. I set date, currency, etc., to be shown in format typical for Poland -
systemwide.

It's all wrong now:
a) calendar starts from Monday, which is good, but it's in Polish
(Poniedziałek, Wtorek, Środa... instead of Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday) which is
BAD,
b) update-manager installs packages in Polish or with Polish description (e.g.
Zaawansowana nakładka na dpkg for apt) which is BAD,
c) when I'm again in System - Administration - Language Support, it tells me
I didn't install Polish language packs and help files. I know I didn't - I
don't want those! That's why I selected Polish writing aids ONLY and left
translations unchecked,
d) there's still English (United Kingdom) as interface and menus language in
Language Support menu, yet, it doesn't work (as described in a and b),
e) when 'sudo apt-get update' there are source list signed as Translations-en
which I do want and suddenly also Translations-pl which I do not want (might
be related to b).

Someone, please, suggests how to repair it temporarily (it means: keep
every translation - like calendar and repositories - in English but in
Polish format and Polish servers as those are the closest to my current
location).

Cheers!

[Bug 637549] Re: no way to set dpi per application

2010-09-19 Thread trespasser
I agree separate wine-prefix is an alternative but according to how I
understand the issue prefix isn't a workaround. Application profiles are
there to avoid such thing (creating separate wine-prefix for every
application is simply a bad idea). And I mentioned the thing because it
is a bug - maybe a low priority one as it shouldn't stop anyone from
using the software but it certainly isn't a wish. Applications tab of
winecfg literally says this functionality has already been implemented
(!), yet, it doesn't work:

Wine can mimic different Windows versions for each application. This
tab is linked to the Libraries and Graphics tabs to allow you to change
systemwide or per-application settings in those tabs as well.

Either the above information or the functionality should be changed -
that's what I meant.

[Bug 271768] Re: Error playing Prince of Persia with wine

Can't see an issue with Prince of Persia - it works golden with wine. I
finished Sands of Time, Warrior Within and Two Thrones. The only thing
that doesn't work out of the box is the fog effect and this is due to
shaders incompatibility (in SoT and WW; TT doesn't have this problem) so
you can actually change the shader settings and then it works platinum.

[Bug 637549] [NEW] no way to set dpi per application

2010-09-13 Thread trespasser
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: wine

wine-1.2
Ubuntu 10.04

To reproduce run winecfg and:
1. open Applications tab and select Default Settings
2. go to Graphics - Screen Resolution, set to 96 dpi
3. go to Applications - Add application... - choose some .exe
4. select newly added .exe then set Graphics - Screen Resolution to 202 dpi
5. go back to Applications and select Default Settings
6. go to Graphics - Screen Resolution and see it shows 202 dpi instead of
96 dpi.

Information in Applications tab provide wine should save settings from
Graphics and Libraries tabs on the per application basis.

[Bug 411845] Re: empathy can't import contacts for gg

2010-05-04 Thread trespasser
Don't mean to interrupt but I agree with Mr Klinikowski. Summing-up the
Gadu-Gadu (gg for short) topic:

[using Empathy 2.30.1 from Ubuntu 10.4]

1. contacts list in original gg client or pidgin is stored in local file with
option to manually upload to gg server
2. telepaty-haze doesn't allow to import contacts from gg server, original gg
client or pidgin
3. it is possible to speak with other contacts when the exact gg# (gg account
number) is known
4. it is impossible to set an alias or permanently save the contact on the list
(since it isn't stored in file or synced with server)
5. chats history in gg is stored in local file however it is impossible to
import chats history from original client or from pidgin

Also, there's no way to set a message for invisible or offline
status which is supported by gg protocol.

I mention pidgin since it used to be the default Ubuntu IM and
compatibility is important due to migration of some users.

I think above 5 issues should be provided in some update since
installing telepathy-sunshine is pretty confusing for common user (who
probably never compiled any source).

Pasted in XMPP console for GoogleTalk account makes you invisible:

Actually it changes status to unavailable but GoogleTalk server tries
to deliver the message anyway so it works as invisibility (kind of). It
depends on the other side's client if it's user sees you on-line or off-
line after the successful message delivery (you should be off-line,

[Bug 353002] Re: Add option to hide persistent notification icon and add support for the indicator-applet

2010-04-03 Thread trespasser
For Evolution there are actually two positions in the Indication Applet:
* Evolution Mail
* Inbox [number_of_unread_e-mails]

The first one runs the Evolution / opens Evolution window. The second
one does the same as the former but appears only when Evolution is
running (when Evolution's off there's a description string Read and
write emails instead). That's a waste of interface space, however, in
case of Ekiga, there can be:

- when Ekiga is off:
* Ekiga
* Talk to people over the internet

- when Ekiga is running:
* Ekiga

- when there's a call incoming (indicator applet changes colour and the sound
is played):
* Ekiga (answer a call)
* Ekiga (decline a call)

If you don't consider the above solution (which works similar for
pidgin/telepathy) functional enough incoming call event can be treated
as a special dialogue box - whenever there's an incoming call and Ekiga
isn't in Do Not Disturb state, pop-up an Answer/Decline dialogue box
in the middle of the screen or under the system tray. That's the most
intuitive solution I can think of - don't know how much it bends the
rules of Gnome HIG. Doesn't seem to bend anything to me.

Cheers!

to go back to check what it was... Then I clicked cancel by accident
and boom - the crash.
