[Bug 708382] Re: cannot create custom preferred applications
If I may (as it might not be related but then please direct me to the correct branch) I can no longer override any of the fixed applications settings, e.g. system terminal: 1. GNOME Terminal is already one of the predefined applications, 2. choose Custom, 3. put in gnome-terminal as a command, 4. as soon as you put l in the text field, selection switches to predefined GNOME Terminal with fixed -x flag, therefore you cannot add any more flags like --full-screen for that matter. So, when fixing this lack of customisation for e-mail, please, remember about removing described above behaviour as well. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/708382 Title: cannot create custom preferred applications -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 553162] Re: Set $LANGUAGE if the user picks a different locale in gdm, so that language-selector and gdm stop disagreeing
It gives me SO much headache. I understand what I propose is a separate approach but can someone please specify what drawbacks lie behind creating a language-creator instead of language-selector? There are only 10 types of users: those finding default language settings for their country convenient and those needing custom locale files. So why there's no creator that would allow to specify system messages language, date in a form of %Y-%M-%D or -MM-DD, put in a decimal separator, currency name, first day of the week and so on? It would auto-normalize after a time by users' statistics (e.g. it can automatically sent statistics after a few days without changes to the locales and after the user agrees) so every popular scheme would come up shortly and could be coming predefined with new system distributions. Why do I have to trying out all the locales one by one to find out where's the one with convenient date, or decimal separator, with learning whole lang file structure and creating one myself as the only alternative? Language- selector, when fixed, will only allow to speed-up the trying out part but after trying every default set I will still end up editing files I do not understand. Your approach gives only N/M-1 probability of satisfying the user, where N is the number of prepared sets and M is the number of possible language/country combinations. And those are small chances. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/553162 Title: Set $LANGUAGE if the user picks a different locale in gdm, so that language-selector and gdm stop disagreeing -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 689464] [NEW] playing wrong file in Rhythmbox

[Bug 655427] Re: language-selector installs unwanted translations breaking the interface
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 553162 *** https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/553162 @Gunnar I agree this is a duplicate to the certain point but (please, correct me if I am wrong or missed something in discussion on bug 553162) your patch makes sure $LANG, $LANGUAGE and $LC_MESSAGES all point to the same language. My issue is to separate those variables as I want to see Polish currency (zł or PLN) but English/US decimal separator (. instead of ,) as well as Polish date format (2010-11-10) but English name of days (Wednesday instead of Środa) and Polish days order (weeks in Poland traditionally starts on Monday). Therefore, in my opinion, language-selector should be reduced to choosing a language only and more advanced changes should be done in custom locale editor (such thing should be introduced). What's more, standard regarding locale should be better documented and guidance for developers on using particular locale variables should be outlined with strong examples. -- language-selector installs unwanted translations breaking the interface https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/655427 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 655427] [NEW] language-selector installs unwanted translations breaking the interface
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: language-selector It was in Ubuntu since I remember. Installed 10.10 and problem still persists: 1. I install Ubuntu in English, 2. I make sure English (United Kingdom) is selected for menus, interface, etc., systemwide, 5. I select ONLY writing aids, etc., for Polish, 6. I set date, currency, etc., to be shown in format typical for Poland - systemwide. It's all wrong now: a) calendar starts from Monday, which is good, but it's in Polish (Poniedziałek, Wtorek, Środa... instead of Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday) which is BAD, b) update-manager installs packages in Polish or with Polish description (e.g. Zaawansowana nakładka na dpkg for apt) which is BAD, c) when I'm again in System - Administration - Language Support, it tells me I didn't install Polish language packs and help files. I know I didn't - I don't want those! That's why I selected Polish writing aids ONLY and left translations unchecked, d) there's still English (United Kingdom) as interface and menus language in Language Support menu, yet, it doesn't work (as described in a and b), e) when 'sudo apt-get update' there are source list signed as Translations-en which I do want and suddenly also Translations-pl which I do not want (might be related to b). [Bug 637549] Re: no way to set dpi per application
I agree separate wine-prefix is an alternative but according to how I understand the issue prefix isn't a workaround. Application profiles are there to avoid such thing (creating separate wine-prefix for every application is simply a bad idea). And I mentioned the thing because it is a bug - maybe a low priority one as it shouldn't stop anyone from using the software but it certainly isn't a wish. Applications tab of winecfg literally says this functionality has already been implemented (!), yet, it doesn't work: Wine can mimic different Windows versions for each application. This tab is linked to the Libraries and Graphics tabs to allow you to change systemwide or per-application settings in those tabs as well. [Bug 411845] Re: empathy can't import contacts for gg
Don't mean to interrupt but I agree with Mr Klinikowski. Summing-up the Gadu-Gadu (gg for short) topic: [using Empathy 2.30.1 from Ubuntu 10.4] 1. contacts list in original gg client or pidgin is stored in local file with option to manually upload to gg server 2. telepaty-haze doesn't allow to import contacts from gg server, original gg client or pidgin 3. it is possible to speak with other contacts when the exact gg# (gg account number) is known 4. it is impossible to set an alias or permanently save the contact on the list (since it isn't stored in file or synced with server) 5. chats history in gg is stored in local file however it is impossible to import chats history from original client or from pidgin Also, there's no way to set a message for invisible or offline status which is supported by gg protocol. [Bug 353002] Re: Add option to hide persistent notification icon and add support for the indicator-applet
For Evolution there are actually two positions in the Indication Applet: * Evolution Mail * Inbox [number_of_unread_e-mails] The first one runs the Evolution / opens Evolution window. The second one does the same as the former but appears only when Evolution is running (when Evolution's off there's a description string Read and write emails instead). That's a waste of interface space, however, in case of Ekiga, there can be: - when Ekiga is off: * Ekiga * Talk to people over the internet - when Ekiga is running: * Ekiga - when there's a call incoming (indicator applet changes colour and the sound is played): * Ekiga (answer a call) * Ekiga (decline a call) If you don't consider the above solution (which works similar for pidgin/telepathy) functional enough incoming call event can be treated as a special dialogue box - whenever there's an incoming call and Ekiga isn't in Do Not Disturb state, pop-up an Answer/Decline dialogue box in the middle of the screen or under the system tray. That's the most intuitive solution I can think of - don't know how much it bends the rules of Gnome HIG. Doesn't seem to bend anything to me.
