2020-11-20 Thread Varun Dhar
I see. I managed to solve half the bug with a kernel update to 5.4.0-54;
it's working in Zoom now, but not Teams. This is likely a Teams issue as
it's still in beta, but I'll open a new bug report anyway.

[Bug 1771476] Re: Jython does not run under 18.04

2018-05-20 Thread varun maitreya
Hello,

I did replicate same issue with 2.7.1 in Ubuntu 18.04.

Temporary solution for the issue (using an older version of jython):

I have tried installing Jython 2.7.0 with installer and it works like
charm. Issue may be compatibility issue with Jython 2.7.1 and ubuntu
18.04. Until bug gets fixed use older version of Jython. :)

I finally found out why the installed Applications were not showing up.
Check for Filters options while searching and select the Applications
button.

Mine was not selected so it was listing due to filters applied.

2016-09-26 Thread Varun Garg
I had same issue, when I removed ubuntu gnome desktop using tasksel. I
solved this by moving these files to a backup location

sudo mv /etc/libnl-3/classid /etc/libnl-3/classid.bak
sudo mv /etc/libnl-3/pktloc /etc/libnl-3/pktloc.bak

then
sudo apt-get -f install

and then restored these files
sudo mv /etc/libnl-3/classid.bak /etc/libnl-3/classid
sudo mv /etc/libnl-3/pktloc.bak /etc/libnl-3/pktloc

[Bug 953875] Re: Encrypted swap no longer mounted at bootup

2016-09-04 Thread Varun Varada
@akwala, I have the same setup (full disk + home folder encryption). I
just ran a mkswap on the swap mapped device that fdisk reports providing
the UUID that blkid gives, and it seemed to work:

~$ sudo blkid # Grab UUID from here (if not for the swap-mapped partition, then
the root-mapped one)
~$ sudo fdisk -l # Grab device path from here
~$ sudo mkswap -U 7e44a598-e057-42ec-9d1d-f0b693467211
/dev/mapper/elementary--vg-swap_1

I then just edited the UUID in the /etc/crypttab file to match and ran
swapon which worked (verified in System Monitor). After rebooting,
however, it gave me a message about the swap partition not being ready
yet, though it worked after waiting for a couple seconds until the
device was ready. I didn't want to see the message, so I followed the
instructions here (http://askubuntu.com/questions/341979/what-to-do-
about-the-disk-drive-for-dev-mapper-cryptswap1-is-not-ready-yet-or) to
add the noauto flags to the swap partition in the /etc/crypttab and
/etc/fstab files, and then created a /etc/init/cryptswap1.conf file with
the following:

start on started mountall
script
  /sbin/cryptdisks_start cryptswap1
  /sbin/swapon /dev/mapper/cryptswap1
end script

This got it working well for me.

[Bug 1602238] [NEW] Boot hangs on 3.19 /4.2 backported kernels on Trusty

2016-07-12 Thread Michael Varun
Public bug reported:

we have been trying to install 3.19 /4.2 kernels on our DELL machines
after successful installation on boot the system simply doesn't boot to
run level (see attachment where its stuck). Some machines of 4.2 kernel
suceed to boot and subsequent reboots fail and drops with the same error
(See attachment)

Isolated the issue to be out of grub since grub is able to be detected
and boot from the mentioned identified device

Isolated the issue to be out of initramfs since if the modules are
missing it will not pass to the next stage of boot process

Issue is seen in a boot stage before the kernel loads completely

Same issue is not seen in virtual environment (KVM) since the device
drivers that is needed to boot is completely different compared to the
baremetals (DELL/HP) suspect something really messy with the ata,ide
drivers that goes missing but too early to comment

While booting to recovery mode it just drops to initramfs shell

Could be possibly related to #1308264 but i see none assigned to the

** Description changed:

we have been trying to install 3.19 /4.2 kernels on our DELL machines
after successful installation on boot the system simply doesn't boot to
run level (see attachment where its stuck).

+ Could be possibly related to #1308264 but i see none assigned to the

[Bug 1308264] Re: Ubuntu 14.04 Beta 2 stuck at "Switched to clocksource tsc" when booting up, then resumes booting to the login screen, after 1 minute

2016-07-11 Thread Michael Varun
This still appears to be a BUG we faced the issue with 3.19 4.2 kernel
eventually fixed in 3.16.0-76-generic

not very clear on why the error throws up with the recent releases

[Bug 1096580] Re: Missing package dependencies make w3af unable to run

2016-02-10 Thread varun
Hi,

I faced lot of issues while installing and running W3af on Ubuntu and
the I've come up with the following steps that will help in easy
installation.

1. Install Ubuntu 14.04.5 on VMware player
2. Note: the dependencies package should be installed of the same version
as mentioned when the dependency is missing. Installing latest version
might create error. Install the latest version (like new version of pip) only
when it is required.
3. Note: if uninstall fails or is unable to connect to proxy or url, give
proxy command
   a. –proxy=:
4. Open terminal and enter the following commands
   a. sudo -sH
cd /opt

apt-get update
apt-get install git build-essential

   git clone
https://github.com/andresriancho/w3af.git

   apt-get install python2.7-dev python-setuptools
python-pip

  b.(Or -> apt-get install python2.7-dev python-
setuptools python-pip –proxy=: )

5. run the following command
 a. cd w3af/
 b. ./w3af_console
6. You might be asked to upgrade to latest version of pip
7. Check the version of pip by typing : pip –version
8. Download the latest version of pip ( tar.gz file)
 a. Extract the file
 b. Go to terminal and go inside the pip folder
 c. Enter sudo –sH ( command for root)
 d. Enter : python setup.py install
 e. This will install latest version of pip
f.( or download get-pip.py file and run this file in cmd)
9. Now enter the command :
 a. ./w3af_console
10. Then we try to run the w3af_console command, which will most likely
fail because of missing dependencies. This command will generate a helper
script at /tmp/w3af_dependency_install.sh that when run will install all the
required dependencies.
11. Now check the file : w3af_dependency_install.sh for all the missing
dependencies
12. Copy those command and run them in terminal ( inside opt folder , with
–proxy mentioned)
13. Install the missing dependencies
14. Write command : python ez_setup.py install.
a.this is for installing the setup tools. Latest version
15. download vulndb – installation error.
16. Inside vulndb folder. Open the setup.py file and change
setuptools_git-1.1 to setuptools-git-1.1
17. Install setuptools-git-1.1. give command: python setup.py install
(inside the setup tools git folder)
18. Now install vulndb. give cmd- python setup.py install ( inside vulndb
folder)
19. W3af is ready to run
20. Now go inside w3af folder. Enter command : ./w3af_console.
21. No missing dependencies will be there.
22. Command:
a.pip freeze | grep futures--this command will show
the version of futures installed.
 b. Output of the above cmd: futures==2.1.5
 c. Pip freeze-- this command will show all the list of
dependencies installed with the specific version.
23. For running: ./w3af_gui , you might be missing a package or dependency.
Install those and then run again.

[Bug 1451092] [NEW] Keyboard direction keys acting weird

2015-05-02 Thread Varun Mittal
Public bug reported:

Ok

So I started a discussion on Ubuntu forums
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2269986
and it eventually boiled down to not using Compiz as a workaround.

The issue:
I am using Ubuntu 14.04 on Thinkpad T420

One fine day the arrow keys(basically the up/down) just stopped working in many
applications.
I works fine in editors etc., but if anywhere the field is active it won't work.

By active I mean, if the field starts giving dropdown options when you type
like browser address bars, my email client address box, facebook search, gmail
mail composition area etc.
It acts weird in following ways:
- It just lets me type a couple of characters and then won't take any more input
- In the address bar, it won't let me choose an address shown in drop down by
pressing up/down arrow key
- In gmail mail composition area, the cursor just goes frenzy jumping back and
forth

I have to write stuff in editor and then copy paste.
However, the mouse works fine.

I am using gnome-flashback with metacity as a workaround.
But I a missing Compiz badly.

Please let me know if you need any diagnostic data or want me to try out
something.

Re: [Bug 1319789] Re: Trackpad not working on 14.04

2014-05-21 Thread varun
Any success in resolving this issue? Will it be resolved by the first
point release of Ubuntu 14.04? (ie in July)

Thanks,
Varun.

Same issue with the syntp ABI mismatch, but with a 12.04 to 14.04 dist-

[Bug 1253890] [NEW] Negative number of messages

2013-11-21 Thread varun
Public bug reported:

When I get a new message from someone, I see a popup, but when I click
the message doesn't appear in a window.

The notification in the conversation window curiously has a negative
number of messages. Saying -2 messages received from xyz.

Re: [Bug 1140716] Re: [regression] 3.5.0-26-generic and 3.2.0-39-generic GPU hangs on Sandybridge

2013-04-28 Thread Varun RS
Thanks a lot for your help Nick...I followed the instructions in the first
mail but then I lost track of what to do after rebooting. The preference
file in etc folder was already there and the next command for upgradable
packages did not work. So, that is exactly where I lost track of it.And I
did not understand what the second mail was about.Do you want me to run
them in the terminal?I did try but if you could just tell me what commands
I gotta run, it will be very helpful.

Thank You Again

[Bug 694468] Re: Unnecessary chrome when showing multiple tabs

Just my 2 cents: 0px padding actually looks better than 1px padding. :)

[Bug 1085425] Re: Crash in software-center when starting service com.ubuntu.sso

2012-12-24 Thread Varun Vijayaraghavan
Hey,

Uninstalling (purging) and reinstalling usc and ubuntu one did not work.
So I unfortunately ended up reinstalling ubuntu. :(

There is a semi-decent chance that I messed up some of the python
dependencies, but the sad part is that everything else seemed to work
normally, except software center and ubuntuone.

I think this bug can be closed, as I can't provide further information.

[Bug 1085425] Re: Crash in software-center when starting service com.ubuntu.sso

2012-12-14 Thread Varun Vijayaraghavan
Sorry for not getting back earlier. I tried running it, but I get the
following error:

λ ~/ U1_DEBUG=True /usr/lib/ubuntu-sso-client/ubuntu-sso-login

I do have zope though:

λ ~/ ls -a /usr/local/lib/python2.7/dist-packages | grep zope
zope
zope.component-4.0.0.egg-info
zope.component-4.0.0-nspkg.pth

zope.interface-4.0.1-py2.7-linux-x86_64.egg
zopeproject-0.4.2-py2.7.egg

I checked my PYTHONPATH, and I got this:
λ ~/ echo $PYTHONPATH
:/home/kvv/{PERSONAL_PROJECT}

On adding /usr/local/lib/python2.7/dist-packages to pythonpath I still
get the same error. Is it just a problem with my PYTHONPATH that's
causing this error?

[Bug 1077460] [NEW] Global menu broke with update

2012-11-10 Thread varun
Public bug reported:

I am using firefox version 17 on Ubuntu 12.04 from the
https://launchpad.net/~mozillateam/+archive/firefox-next ppa.

I just did an upgrade, and on restart the global menu broke, and it just
shows up inside the application window.

Uninstalling firefox and reinstalling did not work.

[Bug 1030657] Re: Black screen after the ubuntu loading screen

2012-08-04 Thread varun
Interesting. Sorry for the late reply. I tested with version
3.4-rc-7-precise and looks like its been solved there.

I could not get a log file for the kernel panic (I don't know how). I
have attached a screenshot here. I hope that helps.

Thanks.
