[Bug 1770044] Re: plasmashell crashes on login - so I can't use my desktop system.
The bug is still present in Kubuntu 19.10 (KDE Plasma 5.16.5), and it appeared two years ago in Kubuntu 17.10. I have reinstalled the package print-manager on my notebook to install a new printer, but I was obliged to remove print-manager after plasma crashed when trying to print as the Wi-Fi was off. Note that without the print-manager, I can not add printers but I can still print on already installed printers. Yes, Zaur's post is interesting: it explains why I encountered that problem only on my laptop (which I use at home and at work with several printers), and not on my desktop machines. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1770044 Title: plasmashell crashes on login - so I can't use my desktop system. [Bug 1770044] Re: plasmashell crashes on login - so I can't use my desktop system.
I first encountered that bug when installing Kubuntu 17.10 on my HP Zbook. I found a turnaround (see below) but the bug reappeared today after upgrading to Kubuntu 18.04. The segfault appears in libkcupslib.so, which is in the print-manager package: $ apt-file search libkcupslib.so print-manager: /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libkcupslib.so So I removed it: $ sudo apt-get remove print-manager After reboot or relogging, plasma is now working. The problem is that I can't print anymore. And if I reinstall print-manager the bug is back. Note that I installed Kubuntu 17.10 & 18.04 on 5 machines, and the bug appears only on my HP Zbook. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1770044 Title: plasmashell crashes on login - so I can't use my desktop system. [Bug 1308264] Re: Ubuntu boot stuck for more than 30 seconds at "Switched to clocksource tsc" when booting up, then resumes to the login screen
On my second machine, the UUID in /etc/initramfs-tools/conf.d/resume did not correspond to the UUID of my swap partition, so I replaced it by the present one and (after sudo update-initramfs -u) the problem is solved. I don't know why they did not correspond. On my first machine, I remember having reformatted the swap partition several times to try to solve a problem and finally deleted it and added some RAM. It is probably the reason why the UUIDs did not correspond. Finally we can say my problem and VPablo's problem was not linked with the message "Switched to clocksource tsc". And in fact, I had noticed that most of the time the delay was occurring after that message but not all of the time. So it seems to be just a coincidence, and in our case it is link with a problem of swap UUID. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1308264 Title: Ubuntu boot stuck for more than 30 seconds at "Switched to clocksource tsc" when booting up, then resumes to the login screen To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1308264/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1308264] Re: Ubuntu boot stuck for more than 30 seconds at "Switched to clocksource tsc" when booting up, then resumes to the login screen
I have SOLVED the problem on my first cited machine (ASUS H81M-C motherboard) thanks to this page: https://askubuntu.com/questions/1013830/slow-boot-long-kernel-load-time-due-to-wrong-resume-device?rq=1 This is the commands I used: $ cat /etc/initramfs-tools/conf.d/resume RESUME=UUID=ab61cdaf-a2a6-40bb-a787-9d383a4490af But blkid shows that this partition does not exist anymore. I first think it was the swap partition I deleted some weeks ago, but the UUID does not correspond to the UUID I have commented in /etc/fstab. So I don't know where that UUID come from. So I typed: $ sudo vim /etc/initramfs-tools/conf.d/resume and replace its content by: RESUME=none Then I typed: $ sudo update-initramfs -u $ sudo shutdown -r now My SSD now boots very fast ! [Bug 987485] Re: Can only print once with USB to parallel adapter and HP 4L
I have the same problem with: - the same adapter: Bus 003 Device 004: ID 067b:2305 Prolific Technology, Inc. PL2305 Parallel Port, - a HP Laserjet 6P, - since Ubuntu 11.10, and now under Ubuntu 12.04, - with two PCs, one with Ubuntu 12.04 32 bits, the other with Ubuntu 12.04 64 bits. Note that I also use an USB switch to select which PC can print. To overcome the problem when the printer is blocked: - I delete the printing job, - I switch from PC1 to PC2, then again PC1, - I print again the document. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/987485 Title: Can only print once with USB to parallel adapter and HP 4L To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/cups/+bug/987485/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 441835] Re: Clicking on floppy gives no device media found
To participate to the debate, sure the floppy is obsolete. But think to elder people who continue to use floppies: my 77 year old father is using ubuntu for several years and he is more comfortable with floppies than usb keys. It's like that, to follow new technologies can be very tiring or uninteresting for elder people... And think also to poor countries where some people are perhaps happy to recycle old PCs of rich countries. Perhaps they use floppies ? And surely a certain number of public schools in rich countries use old recycled PCs to teach little children. So floppy technology is osbolete but perhaps more largely used than we could think. Ubuntu being linux for human beings, my modest opinion is that it should still support floppies.
