[Bug 537740] [NEW] gmplayer defaults to xmga and fails to autodetect or play file
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: mplayer gmplayer fails to play a video file in a default configuration, as xmga is selected as the default video out device, and autodetect fails to work. As a result, errors are shown and the video does not play. The command-line mplayer will, however, correctly autodetect a suitable video out (vo) and play the same video file in a default install. This happens on a new install, with no config file present in ~/.mplayer. If the preferences are changed, and the video out is set to xv, x11 or another suitable for the system, the file will play. I think that either gmplayer needs a rational default setting in the package (such as xv), or the autodetect mechanism needs fixing, so it works in the same way as mplayer. At the moment, xmga is chosen for you, as it's first on the preferences list. This works on very few setups, and makes playback difficult for a new user. ** Affects: mplayer (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: autodetect default gmplayer mplayer xmga -- gmplayer defaults to xmga and fails to autodetect or play file https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/537740 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Still an issue on the current version of Wubi, on a clean install of Windows 7. [Bug 486803] Re: When starting gmplayer I get an error message and no video
Hi Dierre I think this is due to your video out setting of gmplayer being set to xmga. Launch gmplayer (type gmplayer in a terminal), and right-click the main window, choosing Preferences. In the video tab, note that the top option is highlighted (xmga). This doesn't work with all systems. Try changing it to 'gl' or 'gl2', clicking 'OK' and try playing your video again. [Bug 526041] Re: gnome-power-manager crashes all 5-10 minutes again
According to the upstream gnome-power-manaqer developers, the version of g-p-m in Ubuntu is patched with Ubuntu-specific changes, and it is these changes that are causing the crashing issue. I'm not using indicator-application, although I am still seeing the bug, ruling out this package (unless g-p-m relies on it somehow). Using a generic Gnome version of g-p-m fixes the problem. When associating this bug with the g-p-m package, I'm told that all bugs are maintained upstream. However, from what the developer has told me, Ubuntu are maintaining a unique (patched) version of g-p-m. If this is true, then surely the bugs should be managed on Launchpad, against Ubuntu's version? -- gnome-power-manager crashes all 5-10 minutes again https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/526041 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 526041] Re: gnome-power-manager crashes all 5-10 minutes again
I agree this bug appears to relate to gnome-power-manager and not indicator-application. I am seeing the same 30-second icon addition and refresh as described by others. However, as a user of LXDE/Lubuntu, I do not have indicator- application installed, yet the bug still exists. As above, my verbose output of gnome-power-manager raises the following errors: (gnome-power-manager:1832): GLib-GObject-WARNING **: invalid cast from `GtkStatusIcon' to `GtkWidget' (gnome-power-manager:1832): Gtk-CRITICAL **: gtk_widget_hide: assertion `GTK_IS_WIDGET (widget)' failed These two errors repeat every time a new blank icon is created in the system tray. [Bug 526041] Re: gnome-power-manager crashes all 5-10 minutes again
Confirmed as a problem with gnome-power-manager 2.29.2 on my system. Fixed by rolling back to version 2.28.3. Downloaded 'gnome-power- manager_2.28.3-3_i386.deb' from here: http://ftp.debian.org/debian/pool/main/g/gnome-power-manager/ Forced the install by using a terminal (GDebi refused to install an older version): sudo dpkg -i gnome-power-manager_2.28.3-3_i386.deb Battery status icons are now correct and the 'blank icons' no longer appear. Most telling, however, is the lack of error messages when launching gnome-power-manager from a command line. The error messages detailed in comment #28 are gone. I think this needs reporting upstream, as there is no bug contact for gnome-power-manager on Launchpad. ** Changed in: indicator-application (Ubuntu) Status: Fix Released = Confirmed -- gnome-power-manager crashes all 5-10 minutes again https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/526041 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

This is also affecting me in Karmic. The specific issue is that the 'Details' pull-down opens out at a fixed vertical size. If it just pulled down to the bottom of the visible screen, then it would cope with varying screen sizes, and could be scrolled through on smaller screens. A more intelligent logic would be to pull-down at a fixed size, unless this would take it off the screen, in which case it just resize to fit the screen vertically. Same problem here, was fine until Update Manager was run a few days ago. Now have a constant flicking, generally when using the touchpad to navigate menus or scroll webpages. Makes Ubuntu virtually unusable. I've used apport-collect as advised to provide all files needed. As I can't use my laptop in this state, I'm reverting to a different distro so cannot provide any further information from now on. [Bug 414107] [NEW] Palimpsest GUI impossible to use on small screen
Public bug reported: Palimpsest has reported SMART errors on my internal flash disk (do they even have SMART?) However the issue is that the GUI is larger than the small screen on my netbook (800x480). Clicking any of the buttons in the GUI, or attempting to resize the left/right panes just flicks the entire interface from left to right. If I repeatedly click in random places, I might hit on a button when it's shifting from side-to-side but it's effectively unusable. The entire window is shifting from half-off-screen to the left, then half-off- screen to the right. I've not seen this behaviour on any other app within Ubuntu Karmic Alpha, so assume it's specific to Palimpsest. Hopefully this can be resolved so I can run further tests on my disk :) ** Affects: libatasmart (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Palimpsest GUI impossible to use on small screen https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/414107 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 282906] Re: intrepid: gnome-sound-properties no longer allows enabling/disabling of system beep
I agree - an upgrade to Intrepid has re-enabled the 'bell' or 'beep' when clicking 'Shutdown' or at the login screen. There is no way in the GUI or standarde Gnome settings to reset this (nonr that work, anyway). The only way to disable it again is: run gconf-editor from terminal and set /desktop/gnome/peripherals/keyboard/bell_mode to 'off' rather than 'on' Not exactly easy to find for your experienced users, impossible for the average user. [Bug 107986] Suspend fails to work on Dell Latitude X1
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: acpi-support When putting a Dell Latitude X1 laptop into suspend (sleep) mode on a fresh install of Feisty Fawn, the screen fades to black but the laptop never 'sleeps'. After this it is impossible to regain control of the laptop or see the anything on screen, the only option is to power off and reboot. ** Affects: acpi-support (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: Unconfirmed -- Suspend fails to work on Dell Latitude X1 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/107986 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 107986] Re: Suspend fails to work on Dell Latitude X1
Once suspend is attempted, ctrl-alt-f1 fails, as does fn-f8 (the external monitor toggle shortcut). I've also attempted increasing the brightness using fn+[up arrow], this gives no response either. No, this was a fresh installation of Feisty beta (about a week ago) which has been updated to the latest release using Update Manager.
