[Bug 1033598] Re: the CAPTCHA challenge in Ubuntu Software Center is much too difficult to solve for a real human being
OK, Mister Linux System Administrator, how would you suggest someone fix this bug without site editing access/permission?? No one can, except the actual site admin, who appears to have ignored this issue for years. Whoever this person is deserves all of the insults, tomatoes and jeers tossed their way for being either highly incompetent or solidly pig- headed. I've seen captchas on other sites that were not so difficult to use, so it is not a matter of "fixing" the code, it's a matter of using a better widely available captcha plugin tool that already exists. From my POV ... there is nothing users can do about it except complain. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1033598 Title: the CAPTCHA challenge in Ubuntu Software Center is much too difficult to solve for a real human being To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/software-center/+bug/1033598/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 882274] Re: Community engagement is broken
When Linus says he uses XFCE, someone's ears ought to perk up. Linus is no Joe Lunchbucket user, afraid of new things. So, I installed XFCE and am happy as a clam. I refuse to use KDE as they have features you can't turn off that consume CPU and power. Thankfully I have choices. If I wanted to use the keyboard all the time, I'd go back to commandline interface and see if Firefox and LibreOffice would port SVGA versions. Of course they would be full screen all the time and I would have to switch workspaces with the ctrl-alt-F? combination... hey! I had way too many problems with audio, in Karmic, which I need in my work. I fear for the direction of Ubuntu as a distro. I left Fedora and the rpm world, after being a loyal Red Hat user and later as an employee, for as long as they have been around. Ubuntu is doing the very same thing that Fedora was guilty of, but at least Fedora was upfront about being a testbed of beta half-baked softwares. The helluvit is that I don't know what distro to turn to. I just need stable. I just need to use my computer, and to convince the State of North Carolina to use Linux for our prison re-entry program. But, routine updates routinely breaks things that worked. At least with Jaunty it's pretty calm, but packages are no longer being updated. I'm merely disappointed, and not a sorehead. Mark Shuttleworth promised a stable platform, but there are devels out there that want to push the envelope. I merely want the "Right Thing" and for Ubuntu to carry that banner. [Bug 297380] Re: KAddressBook exports unusable vCard files
Ho Ho! Dotan, you're the man!! Does this bug have anything to do with Kaddressbook telling me I have 1,643 records, but when I export a CVS style file, opening it in Open Office spreadsheet gives me only 1,400_ records?? Are records being lost? Does the flatfile need repairing? (deleted records leaving holes?) There doesn't seem to be any utility included to examine/repair the data. Might be a good thing. I'm raising ten kinds of Cain to get computers into prisons running Linux. This is making me look bad. [Bug 445070] Re: kaddressbook crashes sending contact
I really like kaddressbook, except that when I export a CVF file and then open it in an Open Office spreadheet, I'm short 200 records. Kaddressbook says I have 1643 records but the CVS file has only 1400 or so records. We need some sort of file cleanup routine I would guess. THANK YOU! That did the trick! I used to work for RedHat, back in the Bob Young days, as Installation Support Eng. So, I'm still learning the ropes with apt-get. Fedora went past the point of audience participation until I had to just quit using it. Bob would have never treated his users like that. It was like getting a divorce. But, when I read Mark Shuttleworth's philosophy, it was like being back in the old days of RedHat. I hope you guys stay true to that vision. You taking the time to reply is proof that you are. thanks! It seems that the updated package will not install. Getting this error in Synaptic: E: landscape-common: Package is in a very bad inconsistent state - you should reinstall it before attempting a removal. Is this related??
