Hello, unfortunately I could not login into the bug system. So I answer with email. I could only take a look into bug 2048470. No question: this should be fixed at first. [Bug 1965535] Re: Stop recommending snap
+1 Agree with the other affected users. The project is not ready to be forced on Ubuntu users - maybe never will. Personally I have two main issues that I can not accept: 1) Forcing automatic software updates without user consent. 2) Putting a hardcoded visible folder into the user home directory without the option to change it. Wish Ubuntu all the best and am very thankful for being my go-to for 17+ years. May those executive decisions make Ubuntu appeal to a broader audience and bring on many new users. Me - personally - I'm expecting to sadly switch distribution with one of the next releases. [Bug 1575053] Re: Please move the "$HOME/snap" directory to a less obtrusive location
GizmoChicken, I apologize for my post. Wanted to delete it but cannot figure out how. Was just so frustrated in the moment about the non-communication about progress and that Canonical decided to push snap in the current state, even though they participated from the beginning in this thread and are fully aware that they are putting a visible directory right in the user home directory that cannot be moved/renamed. I try to be hopeful, but sometimes it is getting so difficult. Was so hyped about comment #259. Maybe I am just not familiar enough with the process. Do you know where this design document was published? [Bug 1575053] Re: Please move the "$HOME/snap" directory to a less obtrusive location
My main issue is that the snap folder is visible in the file manager and on the command line by default. With .snap that would no longer be the case. Workarounds for all file managers / file dialogs / file listing commands are not always easy. Is there any specific context in which it is important to have a snap folder that is visible by default? I just can't think of anything. Even better (but just nice to have) would be any default location (even ~/snap) and the option to set a configuration file in e.g. /etc/snapd/ that allows to set a custom path that is read and interpreted during re- installation. This way regular users / users that don't bother don't have to do anything and all other users can make their own decision. As you can see from the previous paragraph I am sadly not a very savvy developer. But I am very curious to know: Would the effort to migrate to another hardcoded location than the current one (e.g. ~/.snap) be more, less or similar to the effort with a user-configurable location? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1575053 Title: Please move the "$HOME/snap" directory to a less obtrusive location To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/snapd/+bug/1575053/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

The dev team made it clear that for them it has no priority and from their point of view it is no bug and does not belong here. [Bug 1852935] Re: In Ubuntu Budgie, QT apps take a long time to open
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1851160 *** https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1851160 I spent quite some time today trying various things to get rid of this issue. Below is what I figured out: * I did a fresh install of Budgie 19.10 and faced the issue described. * Installing Budgie 19.04 and performing an in-place update rather than a fresh install seems to avoid the problem. * I tried the 20.04 daily from today (2019-11-22) and faced the same problem. Hence I cannot confirm that 20.04 does not have this issue. * I compared qt5 packages installed in Budgie 19.04 and 19.10. qt5-gtk2-platformtheme is present in 19.10 but not in 19.04. As written in the beginning of this thread removing this package makes the problem disappear but also theming of the affected apps is gone. On the other hand theming in 19.04 is perfectly fine even without the mentioned package. Furthermore 19.04 has the packages qt5-style-platform-gtk2 and qt5-style-plugin-gtk2 without a dependency to qt-gtk2-platformtheme. I tried installing the same set of packages on 19.10 which was not possible without breaking dependencies since those packages depend on qt-gtk2-platformtheme in 19.10. * Forcing the same set of packages directly using dpkg also did not bring back proper theming. * Version of all those *gtk2* packages are the same in 19.04 and 19.10 so that I suspect that the problem lies somewhere else. * I can also confirm that using dbus-launch makes the applications start fast. However, integration into Budgie desktop is lost and it has the penalty of additional dbus processes. Hope this helps finding the root cause of this issue. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1852935 Title: In Ubuntu Budgie, QT apps take a long time to open To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/qtstyleplugins-src/+bug/1852935/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1826177] [NEW] Upgrader has very long answer times, finally it crashes
Public bug reported: General info: - Linux version: 4.18.0-17-generic, x86_64 - Ubuntu version: 18.10 - Program: do-release-upgrade, version 18.10.11.6 Very long answer times and crash point: Yesterday evening the update manager worked fine, then it informed me about the new release 19.04. Here I clicked "Upgrade" and the window vanished. After some minutes another window opened (titled "Release updater" or the like). Under the headline "Release notes" was an empty text field (from former upgrade actions I knew that there should be a short description of the new release) and it remained so for one hour or more. The long answer times were not caused by a slow internet connection: other internet accesses (e.g. television news) were at full speed. Then I suspended the computer and went sleeping. After resume this morning the text field was still empty and was filled with the expected contents after some minutes. So I clicked "Upgrade". Then answer times were faster, but still much slower than during former upgrades: a window stating that download is in progress, a window stating that something is missing (see below), may be more short-living windows (I do not remember precisely), then the window showing the upgrade progress. This window disappeared soon before I was able to read the actual upgrade state, then message apporter appeared. So the upgrader crashed at a point that I cannot describe more precisely. Missing prerequisite: I knew from former upgrade actions that during upgrading repositories other than Canonical's are discarded. In preparation of the actual upgrade I disabled most repositories: only "Canonical partners (Source code)" had been preserved. The strict cleansing of repositories caused probably that something was not found (I do not know what, the window showing the error was closed too soon). I do not know whether the missing prerequisite caused the crash. Resume: Meanwhile I read the release notes of version 19.04. The new things are not really exciting. [Bug 1575053] Re: Please move the "$HOME/snap" directory to a less obtrusive location
I also cannot understand how creating an intrusive directory that cannot be moved in a users home directory is acceptable. Hoping for a fix coming soon as a software I have to use frequently is only available on Ubuntu through snap installation at the moment. [Bug 1780227] Re: locking sockets broken due to missing AppArmor socket mediation patches
I suppose that would that be an ubuntu-specific patch for apparmor userspace? I'm assuming the ABI tells userspace which features are supported, unless this particular feature can be tested for some other way? [Bug 1779678] [NEW] deadlocks in copy_net_ns
Public bug reported: Various users have reported hangs happening during network namespace creation. This mostly manifests in issues while starting lxc containers, and, when triggered, can be seen clearly by running `unshare -n` which will simply hang forever. This has been happening randomly for quite a few kernel versions now. This has been confirmed on 4.13 from Proxmox users (which uses an ubuntu based kernel with few patches), and various other older and newer kernels as found by reports in the links [1][2][3] below. [2] in particular contains the same symptoms across multiple distributions and kernel versions. The posted stack traces do include copy_net_ns() on top as well. There are races in the network code causing copy_net_ns() to hang (seemingly permanently). Some of these are caused by specific types of interfaces being in use and have been addressed (various refcount leak fixes), but that's not all of them. We've received yet another report with the current version 4.15.0-22.24 / 4.15.17 with the same symptoms. Processes in this state always have copy_net_ns() on top of their /proc/$pid/stack looking like: ~/ cat /proc/5228/stack [<0>] copy_net_ns+0xab/0x220 [<0>] create_new_namespaces+0x11b/0x1e0 [<0>] unshare_nsproxy_namespaces+0x5a/0xb0 [<0>] SyS_unshare+0x201/0x3a0 [<0>] do_syscall_64+0x73/0x130 [<0>] entry_SYSCALL_64_after_hwframe+0x3d/0xa2 [<0>] 0x or cat /proc/23900/stack [<0>] copy_net_ns+0xab/0x220 [<0>] create_new_namespaces+0x11b/0x1e0 [<0>] copy_namespaces+0x6d/0xa0 [<0>] copy_process.part.35+0x941/0x1ab0 [<0>] _do_fork+0xdf/0x3f0 [<0>] SyS_clone+0x19/0x20 [<0>] do_syscall_64+0x73/0x130 [<0>] entry_SYSCALL_64_after_hwframe+0x3d/0xa2 [<0>] 0x This randomly affects users of network namespaces (lxc, lxd, docker, PVE as well as service units using systemd's PrivateNetwork option and various others). Upstream there have been a lot of changes to the involved locking mechanism since 4.16 and we should try to backport these patches. This includes most of Kirill Tkhai's network patches and some others. I've been going through the following ones generated via various `git log` calls on net/, drivers/net/ (initially limiting to the ones with `--author='Kirill Tkhai'` as a starting point.) There's also a long list of patches we don't need to pick as they're implicitly reverted by 1 later change, provided we include all the necessary patches. They seem to be nice to review given that they're a progressive change first introducing a flag about async-safety, then going through all the affected areas with commit messages detailing why/if/how they're safe, followed finally when they're all the same by a commit to remove the flag again. [Bug 1717673] Re: gnome-calendar crashed with SIGSEGV in gtk_stack_set_visible_child_name()
I got this crash when after upgrade from 17.04, my Google calendars where imported but as my Google Account is 2FA the normal password box does not work. I got several password prompts, one for each of the Google calendars I had subscribed, I typed in the password but the boxes prompting for the password re-appeared after some time (which is probably as I'm using 2FA). [Bug 1620047] Re: avelsieve does not work with php7
In accordance with this information https://wiki.php.net/rfc/switch.default.multiple on PHP.net in older php versions only the last "default:" statement would be used. It therefore should not break the code if the first "default:" clause is removed. To "fix" the problem in avelsieve version 1.9.9 I manually did the following: edit file /usr/share/squirrelmail/plugins/avelsieve/include/sieve_buildrule.inc.php go to line 584 and comment out the "default:" line: like this: ... switch ($rule['action']) { case '1':/* keep (default) */ /*default: commented out, only one default clause allowed */ $out .= 'keep' . [Bug 1653217] [NEW] stop job timeout loops forever
Public bug reported: On my Ubuntu 16.04.1 LTS with the most recent software updates I regularly run into a situation where the reboot of the machine will hang with a message A stop job is running for ... (1min 23s / 1min 30s) which is already annoying by itself see e.g. https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/systemd/+bug/1457400 what is worse is that after 90 secs the message changes to A stop job is running for ... (1min 31s / 3min 0s) and so on which effectively means the machine will not reboot since this seems to go on for ever (I tried at least for 15 minutes ...) The reason for the stop job behavior seems to be a cifs mount from the machine to one of it's virtual machine. The shutdown sequence seems to be that the virtual machines are shutdown first than the try to unmount the CIFS share will obviously fail (which in fact would not be any big deal at all). First I'll now try to workaround this bug but this bug indeed has horrible consequences: - the machine will not properly reboot by itself any more needing human intervention - since the console is not accessible a hard reset is needed - the hard reset will cause a file system check since the cifs mounts are unmounted before the physical drives so the file systems on the physical drives are not shut down properl.y - on my machine there are several multi-terrabyte drives where the filesystem checks will take approx an hour - so each reboot at this time might take at least an hour and an ugly procedure - thats not what I expect from an OS in this century ... ** Affects: systemd (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1653217 Title: stop job timeout loops forever To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/systemd/+bug/1653217/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1634125] Re: kajongg – early segfault within Kubuntu 16.10
This is not about KMahjongg but kajongg. Big difference. A very different game and a very different implementation. kajongg is a pure Python application. There are no Python bindings for KDE Frameworks 5 except for some experimentation. kajongg (always identical source code) can run with qt5, it can run with python3, and it can run without KDE bindings (not all combinations are possible). But without KDE bindings it does not behave like a KDE application in all aspects. So if KDE bindings are wanted (and they are wanted), kajongg needs a working pykde. I have no idea what you mean with duplicates - if that is something about KMahjongg, I do not even want to know. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to kajongg in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1634125 Title: kajongg – early segfault within Kubuntu 16.10 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/kajongg/+bug/1634125/+subscriptions -- kubuntu-bugs mailing list kubuntu-b...@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/kubuntu-bugs
