I may have fixed it, I'll post a separate bug if it remains after
further investigation.

The "issue" has not been fixed in 18.04 - or it has been fixed and
broke something else or it was fixed in a not working way.

When you try to copy files it now goes ahead and then skips every photo
with

unknown error
unknown camera

I am gutted, this fault needs an internal review to see why it keeps
happening

[Bug 1730150] Re: Nautilus unable to see the storage in my Fuji HS30EXR PTP canera since upgrading from Ubuntu 17.04 to 17.10

2018-06-05 Thread wrapperband via ubuntu-bugs
This bug stops access to cameras. Why wasn't this fixed in 17.10? -
which I'm still using - thanks for the indication it might be fixed in
18.04.

What happened summery :

Note: that the actual bug was fixed a long time ago, the compile of that
source code was not added to 17.10. The longevity and constant repeat of
introducing this bug, is due to the slow uptake of fixes.

Even though they are reported and diagnosed relatively quickly. The
updated compiled version is not getting through the system. A
particularly bad example of this was a virtual machine bug in 17.04,
that wasn't minor but still the fix didn't get in.

Please, if anyone can, inform Canonical Management to see if they can
ameliorate this situation somehow, perhaps add a resource to fast track
minor bug fixes through the build to release procedure...

It's a shame this fix did not get through to 17.10, it effects a number
of cameras.

I'm crossing my fingers, is it fixed in 18.04?.

Did I hold my breath for a year while this bug I reported was fixed?

Hi Timo Aaltonen (tjaalton) -

I would like to help, but I can't test it as my PC is busy,

Can you re-post when it's in the Repo's?

Be great to have 2 monitors, I've sort of got used to not having
them

[Bug 1014749] Re: can't read uvcvideo (usb video / webcams) devices

2013-02-13 Thread wrapperband
I am also affected by this bug. Every time I start a USB web cam
Kaffiene stops with a message box "Read error from".

Press the button and it can be restarted, with both working .

I have been putting up for it for a good while, possibly since Kubuntu
11.04. Currently on 12.10 normal release. I'd be really happy to see it
fixed, and test any updates.

Re: [Bug 1050166] Re: mouse pointer wraps around on first x screen instead of moving to 2nd x screen

2012-10-30 Thread wrapperband
Hi Thomas,

Unfortunately that fix didn't work for me. The mouse pointer is still
trapped on screen one, after the instal of nVidia 304.60 from the .run
file. I used $sudo killall kdm instead of sudo service lightdm stop.

Cheers again for your help

Dr Tony Doyle

If you get an error for:
sudo service lightdm stop
Then try:
sudo service gdm stop
or:
sudo service kdm stop

  3) What you expected to happen

I have 2 independent X screens on my computer (I do not use twinview or any

DISPLAY :0.1 is on the right

I expect the mouse pointer to move from the right edge of DISPLAY :0.0
to the left edge of DISPLAY :0.1 like it did in ubuntu 12.04.

  4) What happened instead

In ubuntu 12.10 my mouse pointer wraps around on first X screen
instead of moving to 2nd X screen

If I try to move my mouse from DISPLAY :0.0 (computer monitor) to
DISPLAY :0.1 (my tv), the mouse pointer wraps from the right edge of
my DISPLAY :0.0 to the left edge of DISPLAY :0.0. It doesn't wrap the
other way around (left edge of DISPLAY :0.0 to right edge of DISPLAY
:0.0). The left edge of DISPLAY :0.0 is a hard boundary for the mouse
  pointer (as it should be).

Compiz doesn't automatically start on DISPLAY :0.1. This is the default
behaviour in 12.04 too.
For an experiment I tried to start compiz on DISPLAY :0.1 to see if the mouse
behaviour changed. It did not.
  The command I ran was
  DISPLAY=:0.1 compiz --replace &

Hi 41 ..

Thanks for the info, I haven't been able to get your fix working. After trying
various ways of login into terminal, x is still running error at the last
minute.

can't login as root, sudo service lightdm, said instance not running...

Looks like I'll try the updating, until edgers or someone does a ppa?
nice to know its on the way...

Hello Everyone,

To commentators #1, 3, and 4: All you need to do is download the Nvidia
driver direct from Nvidia.

Here are the full instructions if you need them:

1. Download Latest Long Lived Branch version Nvidia driver from
'http://www.nvidia.com/object/unix.html' for your CPU and make it
executable

2. Ctrl-Alt-F1 and login as root

3. sudo service lightdm stop

4. Go to where you Downloaded Nvidia driver and execute. ./NVIDIA-
Linux-x86_64-304.60.run

5. sudo shutdown -r
