[Bug 525705] Re: Hiss and noise when adjusting Volume, Balance or Fade in Surround 4.1, 5.0, 5.1 profiles
I can confirm that the problem still exists in Maverick (not a fresh install), with 5.1 set up - CA0106 Sound Blaster. I'm keeping the setting as analogue 5.1 output and analogue stereo input because switching to 7.1 appears to route the right side speaker to the subwoofer. The problem it seems, is that you can't adjust the balance/face/subwoofer or else you get a screeching sound. I'm disappointed there hasn't been any activity to this topic yet. [Bug 3080] Re: lyx: missing TeX class aa
I have a similar problem and it's pretty amazing to find that the bug has lived on for 4 years now. I'm about to write my thesis and thought Lyx might be the intelligent way of getting to do it; however, if I can't even start the process without getting bogged down my numerous error messages, it's somewhat off-putting. -- lyx: missing TeX class aa https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/3080 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is a direct subscriber. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 291074] Re: memory leak in Network Manager Intrepid
Alright, I've pin pointed the problem, at least in my case. It turned out a long forgotten wireless PCI card WLG-1201 - TI 802.11g Wireless PCI Card (chipset TNETW1130GVF) that was still in my computer was seriously confusing NetworkManager. [Bug 136836] Re: Ethernet (nVidia MCP55) not working [ gutsy, hardy]
Stefan Bader wrote on 2008-10-16: (permalink) Based on the last comment (and the previous ones that indicated this has been improved in 2.6.27) I close this bug as fixed for Intrepid. For Hardy and Gutsy this has to be worked around by disabling MSI(X). Nope, the problem is still there and the constant attempt to connect to the network almost disabled my router. Considering nVidia chipsets being (ever) so prevalent, I'm suprised this is not taken more seriously. -- Ethernet (nVidia MCP55) not working [ gutsy, hardy] https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/136836 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 136836] Re: Ethernet (nVidia MCP55) not working [ gutsy, hardy]
Hi, thanks for the speedy reply. I'm currently using a fresh install of 8.10, but it would still seek for network connection in vain. The msi=0 msix=0 fix still works. However, it appears that I'm suffering a memory leak problem now, which may be related to the networkmanager. Please refer to bug #291074. Essentially the symptoms are: Warning messages at syslog (attached at the page) WARN nm_error_monitoring_device_link_state():error monitoring wired ethernet link state: error occured while waiting for data on socket. last message repeated (a very very big number here) times while at the same time, memory usage creeps up, then swap file, then system hangs forcing a restart. In fact, in retrospect, I think this memory leak problem exists even before the msi=0 fix. With my very limited knowledge in Linux, is there a way for me to try and disable networkmonitor to test this theory? -- Ethernet (nVidia MCP55) not working [ gutsy, hardy] https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/136836 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Sorry for double posting, I'm not quite sure if I can edit the previous comment. [Bug 136836] Re: Ethernet (nVidia MCP55) not working [ gutsy, hardy]
I'm not sure how to install a new kernel on Ubuntu, so I'm afraid I cannot provide you with more information in that regard. I will try and read up a bit on how that's done this weekend, but I suspect it won't be easy for a novice like me. Unfortunately the command you gave only disabled the nm applet, but network manager still ticks away eating up all 3GB of RAM. I eneded up (somehow) killing the networkmanager process and perserved my internet connection. -- Ethernet (nVidia MCP55) not working [ gutsy, hardy] https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/136836 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 136836] Re: Ethernet (nVidia MCP55) not working [ gutsy, hardy]
interesting, this might be why I can't, for the life of me, seem to get the network going. I'm using Asus P5N32- SLI motherboard. It is strange, because the network problem seems to fail only with recent version of Ubuntu, I found an old CD and it seems to work ok... [Bug 211717] Re: knetworkmanager - manual configuration doesn't load (kde4)
Hi, sorry I'm a bit of a Linux noob, so I will try and give as much information as possible, hopefully it will help. I seemed to have a double problem. The part where I can't seem to connect to the internet is fixed (partially) apparently it is due to the network controller I'm using - Nvidia MCP55 solution here https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/136836 However the Knetworkconf menu thing is a different story. I can confirm that I did have (uninstalled Kubuntu and got Ubuntu instead) Knetworkconf-KDE4, but for some reason, Knetworkmanager would report kcm_knetworkconfmodule missing. I installed Knetworkconf (without the KDE4 part) trying to fall back a version, which successfully brought up a manual configuration menu, but it was odd that the settings won't stick, couldn't set the setting either at DHCP *OR* static ip, the select bullet thing prefers to unselected (you'd think it's one or the other), and somehow I get a static IP address on the configuration field as 169.254.11.86 when it should be around 10.1.1.2. One last thing, when I told kcmshell to list the modules, kcmshell stated there was no module present. Hopefully that helps, I will stay with Ubuntu or I may use Kubuntu with KDE3 for the time being. -- knetworkmanager - manual configuration doesn't load (kde4) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/211717 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 136836] Re: Ethernet (nVidia MCP55) not working [ gutsy, hardy]
Yeap, the command by Tom works miracle. I hope they can fix this bug soon, because a network problem simply stops people from trying out Ubuntu (and the problem seems to apply in Kubutu as well) because they can't access support online easily if the network is down. I have similar problem as well. The IP stays at 0.0.0.0 and the manual configuration button doesn't work I'm not so sure about the bug being fixed.
