If you want to use the open source radeon driver instead of fglrx, support for AMD's Trinity APU's was only introduced in the 3.4 kernel. This problem also comes up If I upgrade the kernel to 3.4 or 3.5 in 12.4. I think it might be a problem with some trinity chips.
