[Bug 1127913] Re: kswapd (kswapd0) takes 99% IO after resuming from suspend
Disregard my last comment. For 21 days my system run fine, but now I ran into this bug again. At the time this problem occurred, I ran the following commands to produce debug info: free > free.txt cp /var/log/syslog . sudo iotop -b -n 20 > iotop.txt sudo iotop -b -n 20 > iotop2.txt For example, the contents of free.txt: total used free sharedbuffers cached Mem: 404953210647402984792 0 1168 143196 -/+ buffers/cache: 9203763129156 Swap: 20479961893072 154924 It shows that there are 3G free memory, but still almost 100% of swap is used. Also output of iotop shows kswapd taking large amounts of IO: sjs@zen:[~/debug2] $ grep kswapd iotop.txt 52 be/4 root0.00 B/s 1438.75 K/s 0.00 % 30.60 % [kswapd0] 52 be/4 root0.00 B/s6.04 M/s 0.00 % 71.55 % [kswapd0] 52 be/4 root0.00 B/s 19.83 M/s 0.00 % 71.03 % [kswapd0] 52 be/4 root0.00 B/s4.38 M/s 0.00 % 73.57 % [kswapd0] 52 be/4 root0.00 B/s 1834.34 K/s 0.00 % 74.48 % [kswapd0] 52 be/4 root0.00 B/s2.32 M/s 0.00 % 41.74 % [kswapd0] 52 be/4 root0.00 B/s2.26 M/s 0.00 % 99.99 % [kswapd0] 52 be/4 root0.00 B/s3.21 M/s 0.00 % 72.26 % [kswapd0] 52 be/4 root0.00 B/s 631.74 K/s 0.00 % 99.99 % [kswapd0] 52 be/4 root0.00 B/s3.35 M/s 0.00 % 58.51 % [kswapd0] 52 be/4 root0.00 B/s0.00 B/s 0.00 % 0.00 % [kswapd0] 52 be/4 root0.00 B/s 150.45 K/s 0.00 % 99.99 % [kswapd0] 52 be/4 root0.00 B/s0.00 B/s 0.00 % 99.99 % [kswapd0] 52 be/4 root0.00 B/s 1913.03 K/s 0.00 % 64.42 % [kswapd0] 52 be/4 root0.00 B/s 145.83 M/s 0.00 % 99.99 % [kswapd0] 52 be/4 root0.00 B/s4.20 M/s 0.00 % 49.05 % [kswapd0] 52 be/4 root0.00 B/s 19.72 M/s 0.00 % 99.99 % [kswapd0] 52 be/4 root0.00 B/s3.37 M/s 0.00 % 66.38 % [kswapd0] 52 be/4 root0.00 B/s 2023.94 K/s 0.00 % 98.58 % [kswapd0] 52 be/4 root0.00 B/s 2023.70 K/s 0.00 % 18.11 % [kswapd0] I have also attached my syslog. I resumed the computer from suspend at Mar 10 19:16:02. I waited for around 20 minutes for the IO load to go down, but it didn't, so I rebooted my computer. I will test the upstream kernel, but it will probably take several weeks to determine if they fix this problem or not.. ** Attachment added: "1127913_debug.zip" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1127913/+attachment/3566958/+files/1127913_debug.zip -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1127913 Title: kswapd (kswapd0) takes 99% IO after resuming from suspend To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1127913/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1127913] Re: kswapd (kswapd0) takes 99% IO after resuming from suspend
Please close this bug. The problem either has been fixed with a kernel update or was caused by a memory hog process.. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1127913 Title: kswapd (kswapd0) takes 99% IO after resuming from suspend To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1127913/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1127913] Re: kswapd (kswapd0) takes 99% IO after resuming from suspend
Would it be possible for you to test the latest upstream kernel? Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Please test the latest v3.8 kernel[0] (Not a kernel in the daily directory) and install both the linux-image and linux-image-extra .deb packages. If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following tag 'kernel-fixed-upstream'. If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the tag: 'kernel-bug-exists-upstream'. If you are unable to test the mainline kernel, for example it will not boot, please add the tag: 'kernel-unable-to-test-upstream'. Once testing of the upstream kernel is complete, please mark this bug as "Confirmed". Thanks in advance.
