I'm having the same problem. I tried to reset the launcher by disabling autohide then re-enabling it, but it didn't help. Problem (still) exists for me. Tried all the workarounds stated above. I used Compiz to max out Launcher Reveal Edge Responsiveness to 8.0 and Launcher Reveal Pressure to 1, select single click and single click desktop, waiting 1 or 2 seconds. I also tried to max out mouse pointer speed via settings which was suggested elsewhere but strangely the setting always resets to default. Some of these measures work for a little while but nothing is consistent. My workaround is to have hotcorners activated with show workspaces, when workspaces reveal the launcher also pops up then I touch the corner again to get rid of the workspaces and launcher stays revealed. In case this helps for debugging: If then launcher won't reveal, it helps to move the mouse cursor to away from the left screen side and wait 1 or 2 seconds. Here's a way to make the launcher reveal again: If you're on the desktop and the launcher is not revealing by moving the mouse to the left side, just single-left-click on some file on the desktop (selecting it), then single-left-clicking some empty space on the desktop (unselecting the file). Now the launcher is revealing again.
