Here's a way to make the launcher reveal again: If you're on the desktop and the launcher is not revealing by moving the mouse to the left side, just single-left-click on some file on the desktop (selecting it), then single-left-clicking some empty space on the desktop (unselecting the file). Now the launcher is revealing again. Probably this helps debugging....
