Re: [Bug 117107] Re: update-manager -c segfaults
(un)Fortunately, my install of Dapper and double-upgrade to Feisty went fine, so I haven't tried reproducing the bug. Thanks for following up, though. Ok I'm closing this, feel free to reopen if you can reproduce. ** Changed in: update-manager (Ubuntu) Status: Incomplete = Invalid -- update-manager -c segfaults https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/117107 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Thank you for your bug report. I suppose you also have this bug when opening it through the menu System - Administration - ... ? Could you please install the debugging package of update-manager-core following https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProgramCrash in the chapter Prior Ubuntu versions, it seems a little complicated, but just copy paste each command in a terminal and it should work. Then try to run a backtrace ( https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Backtrace ) and a valgrind ( https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Valgrind ). This will greatly help us in tracking down your problem. ** Changed in: update-manager (Ubuntu) Sourcepackagename: None = update-manager Importance: Undecided = Medium Status: Unconfirmed = Needs Info -- update-manager -c segfaults https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/117107 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
Re: [Bug 117107] Re: update-manager -c segfaults
Jerome, Thanks for your prompt response! Fortunately, it looks like the current version of update-manager for Dapper AMD64 does not have this bug. I had hoped to upgrade to Edgy (and on to Feisty) from a pristine install (the Edgy and Feisty install CDs won't boot on my system), but after submitting the bug report, I did an apt-get update and upgrade. I'm currently in the middle of an update-manager -c upgrade to Edgy. I'll only be able to reproduce the bug if the upgrade goes poorly and I'm forced to reinstall Dapper. On a side note, it looks like update-manager will force me to restart my system after the dist-upgrade. The last time I upgraded to Edgy (shortly after Edgy came out), there was about a 50% chance the system would crash before giving me a login on any given boot. It would be really nice if there were a way to bypass the forced reboot and instead go right into a dist-upgrade to Feisty. -Karl On 5/27/07, Jérôme Guelfucci [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Thank you for your bug report. [Bug 117107] Re: update-manager -c segfaults
Ok let's hope your update goes well :) If you can't reproduce this bug I will have to close it because we lack all crucial information to solve it. Concerning your thoughts about update/upgrade, I think you should open a new bug if it hasn't already been reported, but I don't know if this is technically possible, this reboot isn't just for fun I think. -- update-manager -c segfaults https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/117107 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
