Yes, I was trying to install Emacs from Gutsy repositories with dependencies from Feisty. I made a mistake in thinking that the problem was with the dependency information in debian/control. Is this still set to go into feisty-backports? I double-checked the dependencies on my feisty box, and it ought to work as-is (I compiled it successfully last week, and checked on the dependencies that have changed since then). I suspect that the other poster was trying to install the gutsy emacs22 package, rather than building it first from source on a feisty box. Are the versions for the dependencies strict? Does emacs22 really require libasound 1.0.14, and can't work with 1.0.13? The reason I ask is because I, like most people, am running feisty and ideally would like emacs22 to appear in feisty-backports (If emacs isn't a candidate for backports what is?). But barring that would just like to install it with as little package dependencies from gutsy as possible. If you want a backport, you must build it yourself, at this point. I have built this package (with the exact same packaging) for myself on feisty, and it works fine. I have an emacs22 package which I would very much like to get into gutsy, instead of Debian's version in experimental. The reason for this is that my version will have the manuals and the GNU Manifesto included, while Debian's version will strip them out into a separate package labeled nondfsg. I have contacted one of the emacs21 uploaders about this.
