cups-pdf is not installed by default in Hardy or Intrepid either. I think it would be helpful and useful if it was. I am not sure if PDF should be available out of the box, but it is not. Jan: the rationale for Ubuntu no longer shipping with CUPS-PDF is that GTK2 and QT both recently acquired native support for printing to a PDF file. Martin-Éric Racine: I don't know if it is the default behavior but I believe that PDF printer should be available out of the box. This didn't happen in my case (even with final version of Gutsy). It is installed but I added the pdf printer manually.
