In my laptop it shows the "Wired Network" symbol when connecting to any "Wireless Network". It shows the "Wired Network" icon from the time I connect to the network until I disconnect from it. I'm getting the same thing after installing Ubuntu 16.04. Usually, this appears after opening my laptop lid from suspend, and it only seems to happen on one particular Wi-Fi network.
