Please attach /var/log/syslog and /var/log/partman after this happens. ** Changed in: ubiquity (Ubuntu) Status: New => Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1762770 Title: Failure to create swap partition, Failure to resize partition To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ubiquity/+bug/1762770/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1762770] Re: Failure to create swap partition, Failure to resize partition
I can't install the official 18.04 release. The installer takes 5-10 minutes to progress from the initial questions (minimal/normal installation) and the disk is very active. After entering the partition details the installation process starts, but it fails with a disk error message. On a second attempt at installation, the partition stage shows no partitions. I don't believe there is anything wrong with my disk as the regular OS check on the disk is fine and SMART shows that the disk is fine. I have also since installed Ubuntu MATE 15.10, then Ubuntu Budgie 16.04 without any problems. If there is a disk problem, the installer is no help as it complains about it without any indication of what it might be. That leads me to suspect that it is a failure of the installer. This installer makes Ubuntu Budgie 18.04 unusable for me. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1762770 Title: Failure to create swap partition, Failure to resize partition To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ubiquity/+bug/1762770/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1762770] Re: Failure to create swap partition, Failure to resize partition
** Description changed: I attempted to install Ubuntu Budgie 18.04 Beta-1 recently from a live CD and have just attempted to install the Beta-2 on my 64bit desktop. Both gave me scary error messages which caused me to quit. I have never had these messages with any of the many versions of Ubuntu (including Ubuntu Budgie) that I have installed in the past. “Failure to create swap partition” (or words to that effect) - “Failure to resize partition X” (or words to that effect) I didn’t ask resize anything. I have a backup but that's a very worrying message all the same. + “Failure to resize partition X” (or words to that effect) I didn’t ask to resize anything. I have a backup but that's a very worrying message all the same. I have three disks (2 SATA, 2 PATA), I ignore the PATA and one of the SATA disks during installation and mount them later. The SATA disk I install to has 3 partitions, “/”, “swap” and “/HOME”. I had only got as far as stating that “/” should be used as Ext4, as “/” and should be formatted when the errors happened. I had no such problem on the single disk default configuration on my laptop.
