[Bug 184951] Re: nvidia graphics card, display off to the right edge ; shutdown button hidden
Thank you for reporting this issue about xserver-xorg-video-nv. Starting with Lucid, Ubuntu is transitioning to using the -nouveau video driver by default instead of -nv. The reason for this change is because upstream development for the -nv driver has been quite slow. We are quite pleased with the upstream development speed for -nouveau, and hope this will translate into swifter bug fixes as well. Because of this, I'm closing this bug report at this time. I'm marking it wontfix because what you describe is probably a valid issue, but we do not have further plans to work on it in Ubuntu. If you would still like to see this issue investigated, I would encourage you to file it upstream at http://bugs.freedesktop.org/. ** Changed in: xserver-xorg-video-nv (Ubuntu) Status: Confirmed = Won't Fix -- nvidia graphics card, display off to the right edge ; shutdown button hidden https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/184951 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 184951] Re: nvidia graphics card, display off to the right edge ; shutdown button hidden
I installed on one disk many i386 Ubuntu systems. I boot 8.04.1, 8.10 and 9.04 alpha3. I am testing the new Jaunty and I keep a production environment to recover from a crash. The Live desktop CD and DVD show an image shift of the desktop of 1 cm to the right. The shift occurs when I use the nv driver for X. When I use the nvidia (proprietary) driver, the desktop is well centered in the Screen. The image is also well centered when I boot Windows XP at a resolution of 1024x768x32bpp. I'm reinstalling jaunty alpha4. (It crashed today on upgrade 20090212.) I will load xconf for nvidia and edit xorg.conf for nv accordinly. I will submit the xorg.conf with new refresh rates for my screen. My graphics card is a Asus Nvidia 7600GS. The main screen is a Dell E771p. -- nvidia graphics card, display off to the right edge ; shutdown button hidden https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/184951 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 184951] Re: nvidia graphics card, display off to the right edge ; shutdown button hidden
Would you mind testing to see if this bug is still an issue in Jaunty? CD ISOs are available from http://cdimages.ubuntu.com/releases/jaunty/ . If it is still an issue, then perhaps we can forward it upstream. ** Changed in: xorg-server Status: New = Invalid ** Changed in: xserver-xorg-video-nv (Ubuntu) Status: Triaged = Incomplete -- nvidia graphics card, display off to the right edge ; shutdown button hidden https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/184951 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 184951] Re: nvidia graphics card, display off to the right edge ; shutdown button hidden
I was able to get the box running again only 4 days ago. Here you'll find the requested files. I wanted to generate the proper scanline data at each resolution using xvidtune. It will wait few days. I cannot produce it tonight. I'll send something next week. My graphics card supports two screens. I didn't fiddle to activate the second screen. Joined in the message, you'll find the content of lspci -vvnn /etc/X11/xorg.conf /var/log/Xorg.0.log The desktop is shifted at many resolutions. I currently run [EMAIL PROTECTED] and the desktop is shifted to the right. Other resolutions are shifted to the left. I tried to find a scanmode listing like the old xfree 3.x without success. I wanted to send a diff file for all resolutions. Is this data contained in a configuration file or compiled in the program? [Bug 184951] Re: nvidia graphics card, display off to the right edge ; shutdown button hidden
Thanks for reporting this bug about the -nv driver. Please attach the /etc/X11/xorg.conf and /var/log/Xorg.0.log files from when you're running with the -nv driver and are seeing the shifted display. Also please attach the output from lspci -vvnn. It sort of sounds like just a modeline issue, which these files will reveal. One other thing to test would be after booting with -nv would be to try some alternate resolutions (640x480, etc.) Often when the issue is a bad modeline, only one of the resolutions is affected, and the others display properly. ** Changed in: xserver-xorg-video-nv (Ubuntu) Status: New = Incomplete -- nvidia graphics card, display off to the right edge ; shutdown button hidden https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/184951 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
