[Bug 1852586] Re: Boot hangs after "Loading initial ramdisk ..."
Hello everyone. The problem still here using Dell 7567, even in Ubuntu 20.04 kernel 5.4. But, following the suggestion of @danielgrebe in another bug report, I was able to boot after switching PTT Security off in BIOS. Thank you. @alvarofernandoms maybe your case is different. Please file a new bug instead, add following kernel parameters and take some pictures when your systems hangs: initcall_debug ignore_loglevel=1 earlycon=efifb And don't forget to remove the default parameters "quiet splash". -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1852586 Title: Boot hangs after "Loading initial ramdisk ..." This bug is awaiting verification that the kernel in -proposed solves the problem. Please test the kernel and update this bug with the results. If the problem is solved, change the tag 'verification-needed- eoan' to 'verification-done-eoan'. If the problem still exists, change the tag 'verification-needed-eoan' to 'verification-failed-eoan'. If verification is not done by 5 working days from today, this fix will be dropped from the source code, and this bug will be closed. [Bug 1852586] Re: Boot hangs after "Loading initial ramdisk ..."
Hi, here is the output of sudo update-initramfs -u -k 5.3.0-23-generic update-initramfs: Generating /boot/initrd.img-5.3.0-23-generic I: The initramfs will attempt to resume from /dev/dm-2 I: (/dev/mapper/vgubuntu-swap_1) I: Set the RESUME variable to override this. (for 24 it's the same) also 5.3.0-24 from eoan-proposed doesn't work either -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1852586 Title: Boot hangs after "Loading initial ramdisk ..." [Bug 1852586] Re: Boot hangs after "Loading initial ramdisk ..."
Can you add the output of updating the initramfs? And also try 5.3.0-24 from eoan-proposed? The initramfs update command would be like: sudo update-initramfs -u -k 5.3.0-23-generic I am trying to sort out if this is related to LP: #1852521, where a keyfile was used. [Bug 1852586] Re: Boot hangs after "Loading initial ramdisk ..."
I have the same issue: Lenovo Thinkpad e590 and full-disk encryption(it asks password during boot). Also, it works on 5.3.0-19 (and previous) and does not work with 5.3.0-22+. In my case I see this 2 lines in a loop during boot: WARNING: Failed to connect to lvmetad. Falling back to device scanning. Reading all physical volumes. This make take a while... But I'm not sure how to check do I use LUKS/dm-crypt, cause I got a laptop with already preinstalled OS. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1852586 Title: Boot hangs after "Loading initial ramdisk ..." Hi Tyler, Yes, LUKS/dm-crypt is running - I've used the options in the OS installer to encrypt the drive -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1852586 Title: Boot hangs after "Loading initial ramdisk ..." [Bug 1852586] Re: Boot hangs after "Loading initial ramdisk ..."
Hi Eugen - Thanks for the bug report and sorry about the trouble you're experiencing. I'm trying to figure out if there is any link between a few different bug reports that I'm seeing come in for 5.3.0-22. It looks like the dm_crypt module is loaded on your system so I'd like for you to verify here that you use full-disk encryption with LUKS/dm-crypt.
