I have the same problem in Ibex 8.10 Hibernating takes *FOREVER*.. i can go downstairs, make some coffee, and go back and then maybe its done. Same goes for resuming after hibernation. Hi I have a similar problem on my Sony VAIO VGN-CR323. Suspend to RAM is fast (both going down and coming up) but Hibernate is *very* slow. From selecting Suspend to Disk in knetworkmanager to the machine actually powering down takes 1:14 seconds. Interestingly enough, the HDD activity light is only on for 11 seconds of this time. I APT upgraded to Intrepid (~alpha 6) today, and hibernate doesn't work at all. The total effect of selecting the hibernate option from the new shutdown dialog is to drop out to a blank screen and ask for my password, as if I'd asked to lock the screen. There is a brief pause in between, suggesting that hibernation is attempted but rapidly abandoned. The Ubuntu Kernel Team is planning to move to the 2.6.27 kernel for the upcoming Intrepid Ibex 8.10 release. As a result, the kernel team would appreciate it if you could please test this newer 2.6.27 Ubuntu kernel. There are one of two ways you should be able to test: 1) If you are comfortable installing packages on your own, the linux- image-2.6.27-* package is currently available for you to install and test. --or-- 2) The upcoming Alpha5 for Intrepid Ibex 8.10 will contain this newer 2.6.27 Ubuntu kernel. Alpha5 is set to be released Thursday Sept 4. Please watch http://www.ubuntu.com/testing for Alpha5 to be announced. You should then be able to test via a LiveCD. Proper suspend with 8.04 in a Thinkpad T60p with ATI FireGL 5250. Takes about 7 seconds until the hard drive stops spinning and the moon light stops blinking. Resume is another story; takes about 10 seconds if one control+alt+F7 to go to Xorg (otherwise up to 30 or more seconds!) -- but the moon light keeps blinking for a while in any case. Hi Guys, Just to see if it makes a difference, care to test the Intrepid Ibex 8.10 kernel? It was most recently rebased with the upstream 2.6.25 kernel and is currently available in the following PPA: https://edge.launchpad.net/~kernel-ppa/+archive If you are not familiar with how to install packages from a PPA basically do the following . . . Create the file /etc/apt/sources.list.d/kernel-ppa.list to include the following two lines: deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/kernel-ppa/ubuntu hardy main deb-src http://ppa.launchpad.net/kernel-ppa/ubuntu hardy main Then run the command: sudo apt-get update You should then be able to install the linux-image-2.6.25 kernel package. After you've finished testing you can remove the kernel- ppa.list file and run 'sudo apt-get update' once more. Please let us know your results. The Hardy Heron Alpha series is currently under development and contains an updated version of the kernel. It would be helpful if you could test the latest Hardy Alpha release: http://www.ubuntu.com/testing . You should be able to then test the new kernel via the LiveCD. I have the same problem in feisty. Suspend takes about 15 to 40 seconds. Apple laptops in year 2001 suspended in under 2 seconds ... one wonders. At least it doesn't fail: in gutsy, there is no suspend AT ALL for Thinkpads with ATI cards.
