Even I am facing the same problem while running Eclipse. Can this be fixed as
early as possible?
Thanks,
Naveen.

[Bug 205620] Re: Java applications crash with Sun JDK 1.6 (6-04-2) on x86_64

2008-03-26 Thread Matti Lindell
Can you reproduce this in Hardy, sun-java6 6-05-0ubuntu1 (build
1.6.0_05-b13) ?

Eclipse on x64 is known to crash due 'Java.lang.OutOfMemoryError:
PermGen space' errors, but this is probably something different.

Similar problem here with ubuntu 8.04 64 bits and Sun JDK 1.6. Eclipse
3.3.2 crashes randomly after few minutes.

I've also got this problem. I'm using ubuntu 8.04 beta AMD 64, Sun JDK 1.6
(synaptic version: 6-04-02, java version: build 1.6.0_04-b12)
Eclipse ran ok allowing me to install plugin's and check code out of svn, the
crash occurs when it starts compiling the workspace.

I confirm that Gutsy java packages for Sun JDK 1.6 (64 bits, build
1.6.0_03-b05) fix the problem.
I have tried also to install manually the Sun JDK 1.6 (jdk-6u5-linux-x64.bin),
but the same error has occured.

[Bug 205620] Re: Java applications crash with Sun JDK 1.6 (6-04-2) on x86_64

2008-03-24 Thread David
Forgive the beginners question... How do I install the gutsy java
packages to work around this problem?

I've added to my sources.list

deb http://gb.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ gutsy multiverse
deb-src http://gb.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ gutsy multiverse

but when I try and force the version in Synaptic and choose the gutsy version
it shows no packages to update?
Cheers, David

David,

what you need is to pin the packages to the wanted version. Run 'man
apt_preferences' to learn how to. Here's my /etc/apt/preferences file:

Package: sun-java6-bin sun-java6-doc sun-java6-jdk sun-java6-jre
sun-java6-source
Pin: version 6-03-0ubuntu2
Pin-Priority: 1001
