[Bug 209499] Re: Default window size too large, obscured under top panel
It happens the same to me (Bug #360004: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/firefox-3.0/+bug/a): The window controls of the program (close, maximize, minimize and window-options buttons) are not visible because the window is too big on the screen and they are hidden behind the Ubuntu top menu bar and I can only interact with the firefox window by keyboard commands. It happens since the last firefox packet update. ** Attachment added: Problem's Picture http://launchpadlibrarian.net/25702606/windowmenubar1 -- Default window size too large, obscured under top panel https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/209499 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 209499] Re: Default window size too large, obscured under top panel
F11 a couple of times should resize the firefox window or alternatively move the taskbar/panels out of the way, off to the sides and then resize the windows with the mouse. Once you've set them to the right size for you then go to Edit - Preferences - Content - Enable JavaScript Advanced ... and then UNtick the top (?) option which is Move or resize window. This should prevent javascript from being able to resize your window inconviently Good luck and regards from Tom :) -- Default window size too large, obscured under top panel https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/209499 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

this happens a lot, that windows appear on the screen with the title bar hidden in a way that you cannot move it any more, it's not limited to firefox -- Default window size too large, obscured under top panel https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/209499 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 209499] Re: Default window size too large, obscured under top panel
Sebastian, i think you are having a slightly different bug from the one mostly talked about in this thread. it sounds a lot more severe! Have you tried moving the taskbar to run down the sides of the screens? Does that allow you to resize the relevant windows? When you use them and then close and reopen are they the right size again now? Also the F11 key migth help shrink the windows that are too large? Good luck with this, regards from Tom :) -- Default window size too large, obscured under top panel https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/209499 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 209499] Re: Default window size too large, obscured under top panel
Same thing for me on a MacBook 3,1 running Ibex, with Firefox only so far. As I haven't been able to figure out how to remap the F11 key from a mouse-click yet, the way I solved it was to select View|Fullscreen, then restore from the fullscreen titlebar buttons, then drag the window down resize manually. This seems to have fixed the immediate problem. -- Default window size too large, obscured under top panel https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/209499 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

You're welcome :) I still think this is a bug even though that work- around solves most instances of the problem. [Bug 209499] Re: Default window size too large, obscured under top panel
This just happened for the first time yesterday. I upgraded to Intrepid at least a month ago, and haven't had any firefox upgrades in a bit. (Running compiz, FF version = FF3.07). I can fix it by doing View Fullscreen (click minimize), then use resize. But that sucks. FF used to always open to the last window size before closing (or so it seems). Is there a script that affects this somewhere? -- Default window size too large, obscured under top panel https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/209499 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 209499] Re: Default window size too large, obscured under top panel
I have been having this problem too. I just started using Ubuntu heavily again, so I can't really say what versions, though I have 8.10 and FF3. This happens all the time for me though... usually when a page loads. Not always, but for nearly all links and things that reload the page, it happens and I have to hit F11 twice to go to fullscreen and back, which fixes the problem. It is hard for me to recreate as it happens unpredictably, just when a new window or tab is created and sometimes on a link.
I started having this problem a few days ago (Intrepid - compiz enabled). I coincide with an ubuntu upgrade of firefox and the installation of extension split browser. uninstalling split browser seems to have solved the problem for now. I'm not certain if I had the problem before the latest upgrade to firefox with the extension already installed, but I think it was working fine. BTW if it can help anyone that cannot access the menu or resize buttons : keeping alt pressed while clicking with the mouse anywhere inside firefox allows you to move the window and place it so as to have access to the menu/buttons.

I can confirm this bug on an IBM Thinkpad X31 Intrepid Ibex Beta Firefox 3.0.3 I've successfully installed and used all versions of Ubuntu from 6.06 onward on this thinkpad without any major problems. This problem with Firefox hiding under the top-panel is new, and occurs with a brand new install upon opening Firefox for the first time. Seems to be remedied by opening panel preferences adding panel-hide buttons hiding top panel adjusting firefox window size by grabbing the bottom corner then un-hiding top-panel. This might not be issue if the top-panel wasn't expanded by default. ** Attachment added: Firefox hiding under top panel intrepid Ibex Beta http://launchpadlibrarian.net/18510988/Frefox_under_panel.png -- Default window size too large, obscured under top panel https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/209499 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
