[Bug 281808] Re: Flashplugin not working in Konqueror (8.10)
Not fixed in 64-bit Jaunty running KDE 4.3 RC2 with all updates applied as of 2009-07-20. Does the fix show up in Karmic only? The litmus test for this (at least on my system) is to try videos at http://www.komonews.com/ which will always work in Firefox and almost never work in Konqueror. [Bug 281808] Re: Flashplugin not working in Konqueror (8.10)
The inconsistency looks as if it may be related to whether flash9 has ever been installed. On a jaunty system updated from hardy -- no problems. On a new system, no flash with the default install in konqueror (OK in firefox). Installed the hardy plugin which worked but with no sound (and full-screen was ignored). The reinstalled the jaunty version and it now looks to work (at least the Apollo 11 video on the Guardian main page (www.guardian.co.uk) worked). In summary at least for me, flash 10 seems to work provided flash 9 has previously been installed! -- Flashplugin not working in Konqueror (8.10) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/281808 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to kdebase in ubuntu. -- kubuntu-bugs mailing list kubuntu-b...@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/kubuntu-bugs

It looks like there is a working patch in the kde-bugs #169626 page. Any chance on having this applied to Jaunty and Intrepid? (I am on Mythbuntu Intrepid, so would greatly appreciate the backport as firefox is not a great replacement to mythbrowser in terms of mythtv integration). -- Flashplugin not working in Konqueror (8.10) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/281808 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to kdebase in ubuntu. -- kubuntu-bugs mailing list kubuntu-b...@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/kubuntu-bugs
[Bug 281808] Re: Flashplugin not working in Konqueror (8.10)
Doesn't seem to be working right in Jaunty at this point either. Just tried on a fresh install of Jaunty beta -- I open konqueror, go to a flash website (www.homestarrunner.com) and am prompted to download the necessary plugins. I download, refresh, and am prompted again. If I try to download, I'm told the package is already installed. Close konqueror and restart, still prompted. Still not working. The correct flash plugin is showing up under nsplugins, there's just no response. Given the name of this bug refers to 8.10, should I start a new bug for 9.04? -- Flashplugin not working in Konqueror (8.10) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/281808 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to kdebase in ubuntu. -- kubuntu-bugs mailing list kubuntu-b...@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/kubuntu-bugs
[Bug 281808] Re: Flashplugin not working in Konqueror (8.10)
Same problem here. I've had it since KDE 4.0. It never happened with KDE 3.5.x. Yesterday, I did a fresh install of kubuntu 8.10, and upgraded to KDE 4.2. The problem has not changed. I can confirm that on other machines with similar setups, Flash 10 does work in Firefox, a lot of times I do have the empty space in konqueror where the Flash animation was supposed to be shown, and only sometimes I do get a working Flash animation, even on YouTube. Since kubuntu seems to install without Firefox these days (which is a decision I support), I believe this is rather important. -- Flashplugin not working in Konqueror (8.10) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/281808 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to kdebase in ubuntu. -- kubuntu-bugs mailing list kubuntu-b...@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/kubuntu-bugs

Philippe: I believe what you're doing won't work, because the directory in which flash lives has moved since Hardy. (In fact, I think it's different from Intrepid to Jaunty.) [Bug 281808] Re: Flashplugin not working in Konqueror (8.10)
Here is an interesting bit. I see one circumstance where Flash 10 will generally work: Go to youtube or some other site with a flash movie on the page. You will see a white region where the flash movie is. Right click on the flash movie and the flash menu comes up. None of the actions do anything, except the last one, which says About Adobe Flash Player 10. Select that one, and a new tab opens. Wait a while to be sure the page is loaded, and then change to that tab. The flash movie at the to will usually play. However, if you reload this page, it will be a white rectangle. -- Flashplugin not working in Konqueror (8.10) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/281808 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to kdebase in ubuntu. -- kubuntu-bugs mailing list kubuntu-b...@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/kubuntu-bugs
[Bug 281808] Re: Flashplugin not working in Konqueror (8.10)
BTW, I should note that the original problem with flash 10 is INTERMITTENT. I have seen flash work on pages from time to time (I would estimate about 1 out of 20 or so. Then, even pressing reload on the same page, flash will fail to start. It is also noteworthy that if you right click on the region where the flash applet is supposed to be, you *do* get the flash menu, so this seems to be some sort of race that keeps the frames of the movie from playing. -- Flashplugin not working in Konqueror (8.10) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/281808 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to kdebase in ubuntu. -- kubuntu-bugs mailing list kubuntu-b...@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/kubuntu-bugs
[Bug 281808] Re: Flashplugin not working in Konqueror (8.10)
Just to verify: I see this same problem on 9.04 (Jaunty alpha 4). I can fix it by doing a simpler version of what jartsa suggests above. 1) Go to adobe, and get the deb for ubuntu 8.04+, save locally 2) sudo dpkg --install install_flash_player_10_linux.deb 3) Then get the fp9 archive as suggested, from http://fpdownload.macromedia.com/get/flashplayer/installers/archive/fp9_archive.zip 4) Unzip, then cd to fp9_archive/9r152 (The highest numbered version) 5) tar xvfz flashplayer9r152_linux.tar.gz 6) sudo chown root.root libflashplayer.so 7) sudo mv libflashplayer.so /usr/lib/adobe-flashplugin/ This quietly replaces flash 10 with flash 9, and I believe you could uninstall it if you wanted using dpkg. [Bug 281808] Re: Flashplugin not working in Konqueror (8.10)
If you want to replace flash 10 with 9 (while waiting for the end of the never ending struggle w/ konq+flash): 1. Download fp9 from the archive: http://fpdownload.macromedia.com/get/flashplayer/installers/archive/fp9_archive.zip 2. edit /var/lib/dpkg/info/flashplugin-nonfree.postinst -comment (or edit) the lines that check the md5sums -change the references from flash...10 to 9 3. copy the chosen tar.gz to /var/cache/flashplugin-nonfree/install_flash_player_10_linux.tar.gz 4. run: sudo /var/lib/dpkg/info/flashplugin-nonfree.postinst configure That will replace the fp10 in your system with fp9, while keeping the presently installed .deb in the present version. If you want to do this, you probably already know what to edit in the flashplugin- nonfree.postinst file. I replaced the fp10 with the fp9r124. Youtube videos work, and even the myspace music player. Probably instead of the steps above, you could just replace the file /usr/lib/flashplugin-nonfree/libflashplayer.so.
