[Bug 285366] Re: fglrx in mesa mode

2009-03-28 Thread Andrei Coman
I have a ATI Radeon HD 4850 x2 and after installing the fglrx driver with the
restricted driver manager,
the display dosen't work anymore. I really need for the fglrx driver for 3D
accel and because the video card is very noisy (it has 2 coolers on).

I'm using Jaunty Beta x86_64.

[Bug 285366] Re: fglrx in mesa mode

2009-02-05 Thread Tares
Continuing my research on this issue, I've tested few things. First of
all, fglrx (8.12/9.1/9.1 beta/9.2 beta) have this issue, second, it's
not a system problem, cause I've installed arch x86_64 recently and the
result was the same. As for an issue I mean the amdcccle showing mesa
not ati renderer. Performance is quite normal.

The most funny thing about this is, that when I run liveCD (8.10
amd64/i686) and install any of drivers mentioned above, then x restart,
everything is alright. Performance, glxinfo,fglrx,amdcccle... everything
is as it should be. But if I do the same thing on a fresh install,
result is in the first post (amdcccle thing).

[Bug 285366] Re: fglrx in mesa mode

2009-01-16 Thread Bryce Harrington
** Description changed:

  hello,

I've installed fglrx from repos. It installs and works, but I get awefully
low performance. I think I found the problem, which is showed in CCC :
  http://img220.imageshack.us/my.php?image=cccgc5.png
It's in polish, but as you can see it reports that my HD4850 is using fglrx
but OpenGL is from mesa. Although, fglrxinfo shows :
  display: :0.0 screen: 0
OpenGL vendor string: ATI Technologies Inc.
OpenGL renderer string: ATI Radeon HD 4800 Series
OpenGL version string: 1.4 (2.1.8087 Release

So it seems like it should be ok, but in q3 I get like 70 fps instead of
1k+, and I cant even start etqw cause of segfaults.

2009-01-07 Thread Jinserk Baik
I'm exactly the same case, with x86_32 Ubuntu/intrepid, ati x1400.
With fgl_glxgears and glxgears, both record about 60 fps :-(
I've installed fglrx driver 8.543 in recent repository build, then tried to
make the latest 8.561 build from AMD sites, also show the same result.
I'm using dual monitor configuration, but this is not the reason because I got
the same result without the secondary monitor.

OpenGL renderer string: ATI Mobility Radeon X1400

$ fglrxinfo

[Bug 285366] Re: fglrx in mesa mode

2008-12-16 Thread Tares
Okay, I will try that.

I want to share my few thoughts about this. Recently I've moved to
ubuntu 8.10 amd64 thanks to flash 64 and java 64 plugins, anyway with
fglrx 8.12 release, the building package for ubuntu is fixed so trying
this method I've installed fglrx first on live CD, I was really shocked
and happy that finally everything looked normal, I mean
fglrxinfo/glxinfo/amdcccle. So without a second thought, I've installed
x86_64 and done the same thing, but now on fresh install. Unfortunately
I was back to the start.

Anyway with a little tries and changes, I've came with this thing. I always had
fusion-icon added to autostart, and with it fglrxinfo/glxinfo looked like
before. But when I removed it from autostart, and ubuntu booted to metacity
(compiz turned off) fglrxinfo says :
display: :0.0 screen: 0
OpenGL vendor string: ATI Technologies Inc.
OpenGL renderer string: ATI Radeon HD 4800 Series
OpenGL version string: 2.1.8304 Release
As you can see, it's a little improvement. Games reports that now I'm using
OpenGL 2.1 and most of all, they works without any problems. I've tried to
investigate a little in that direction, so I've changed xorg.conf a little, but
that didnt bring more help.

Situation looks like this : fglrxinfo/glxinfo states that everything is
perfectly fine. Games/OpenGL programs works but amdcccle stills report
mesa mode.

[Bug 285366] Re: fglrx in mesa mode

2008-11-17 Thread Tares
Well, I think its ubuntu problem.

Currently I'm on Ubuntu i686 8.10 with manually installed fglrx 8.11 and
the same error occurs, but this time, I've managed to get 3D working as
it suppose to.

Anyway I've tested fglrx 8.11 on ubuntu amd64 8.10 daily-build
16.XI.2008 and the problem remains, although 3D works.

Dunno what to check more. Only thing that comes to my head is to try it
with other distro.

This really sounds like it is a packaging problem, but given you've

I think this should be should be submitted upstream then.

Hello,

I've did as you requested. Installed a fresh copy of ubuntu 8.10 final
dated at 30.10.08. Activated fglrx through jockey and the outcome is

2008-10-30 Thread Bryce Harrington
Hi tares-kun,

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. You reported this bug a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in
it recently. We were wondering is this still an issue for you? Can you try with
the latest development release of Ubuntu? (ISOs are available from
cdimage.ubuntu.com)

If it remains an issue, could you also attach a new /var/log/Xorg.0.log?
Thanks in advance.

reopen with the requested information. Also, if you could, please test against

[Bug 285366] Re: fglrx in mesa mode

2008-10-23 Thread Tares
I've did a little testing here.

I've downloaded daily-build (22.10.08), ran it as livecd. Installed
fglrx through synaptic, replaced xorg.conf with my own, and rebooted X.
To my surprise amdcccle reported that everything is fine, fglrxinfo
also. So i've tried to run q3. This time it didnt start, stating that
couldnt load GL (i dont remember exact msg) and after that screen went
blank, showing only cursor and there where it hang. The only thing I
could do was to reset my pc.

But I've installed daily-build on hdd after formating '/', did the same
thing as above (install fglrx and so), but now I'm back to the start.
fglrxinfo says its okay, but my amdcccle says the same thing as on the
screenshot :/

Dunno what else I can test, upload or do here to help. My gfx is :
Gainward HD4850 @625/996.
