This is not a dupe of #22985 This bug is about the gfx card not being detected properly. Im just noting I have opened a new bug here, https://launchpad.net/distros/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/68433 I have an X700, and I have had no luck in installing from the official release of 6.10. Today I downloaded and burned ubuntu 6.10 Release Candidate. The installer was unable to to start xorg like it did before. I manually changed xorg.conf from Driver ati to Driver radeon and gnome started. I run some applications for a while and it didn't crash as Stefano reported. I installed Edgy RC AMD64 and X crashes my computer with an ATI X800 card no matter if I use the ati, radeon or vesa driver. Gathering duplicates here, there are lots of them. The driver ati fails on many (most?)
