[Bug 292374] Re: fan fails to start system overheats.

2009-08-27 Thread kernel-janitor
Hi laney,

This bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in
it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? Can you try
with the latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO CD images are
available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/karmic .

If it remains an issue, could you run the following command from a
Terminal (Applications-Accessories-Terminal). It will automatically
gather and attach updated debug information to this report.

apport-collect -p linux 292374

Also, if you could test the latest upstream kernel available that would
be great. It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the
issue. Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Once
you've tested the upstream kernel, please remove the 'needs-upstream-
testing' tag. This can be done by clicking on the yellow pencil icon
next to the tag located at the bottom of the bug description and
deleting the 'needs-upstream-testing' text. Please let us know your
results.

Thanks in advance.

2008-11-11 Thread duanedesign
I get the same thing on my computer.

Sorry, no sensors were detected.
Either your sensors are not supported, or they are connected to an
I2C or SMBus adapter that is not supported

If you find a solution to this let me know and I will do the same. I have
posted the problem in the ubuntu forums, no ideas on how to fix it yet.

This program will help you determine which kernel modules you need
to load to use lm_sensors most effectively. It is generally safe
and recommended to accept the default answers to all questions,
unless you know what you're doing.

We can start with probing for (PCI) I2C or SMBus adapters.
Do you want to probe now? (YES/no): y
 Probing for PCI bus adapters...
Use driver `i2c-piix4' for device :00:07.3: Intel 82371AB PIIX4 ACPI

We will now try to load each adapter module in turn.
 Module `i2c-piix4' already loaded.
If you have undetectable or unsupported adapters, you can have them
scanned by manually loading the modules before running this script.

To continue, we need module `i2c-dev' to be loaded.
Do you want to load `i2c-dev' now? (YES/no): y
 Module loaded successfully.

We are now going to do the I2C/SMBus adapter probings. Some chips may
be double detected; we choose the one with the highest confidence
 value in that case.
If you found that the adapter hung after probing a certain address,
you can specify that address to remain unprobed.

Some chips are also accessible through the ISA I/O ports. We have to

[Bug 292374] Re: fan fails to start system overheats.

2008-11-11 Thread IanW
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better.

I'm limiting this bug to FAN WON'T START. If your fan always runs, then
please use bug 226397 as they may or may not be different bugs.

If your fan does not start, then please include the following additional
information, if you have not already done so (pay attention to lspci's
additional options), as required by the Ubuntu Kernel Team:
1. Please include the output of the command uname -a in your next response.
It should be one, long line of text which includes the exact kernel version
you're running, as well as the CPU architecture.
2. Please run the command dmesg dmesg.log after a fresh boot and attach the
resulting file dmesg.log to this bug report.
3. Please run the command sudo lspci -vvnn lspci-vvnn.log and attach the
resulting file lspci-vvnn.log to this bug report.

Please *attach* -don't paste- these files to keep the bug report
readable and useful to developers.

Thanks in advance.

Similar problems on my HP Pavilion dv6700t running Intrepid amd64. With
Hardy the system always got warm when using it on my lap (blocking
bottom air vents) but with Intrepid it overheats to the point of
freezing with a flashing CAPS LOCK indicator light. Requires a power off
and cold boot to bring the system back up.

I should note that this stopped occuring for me on my nc6000. I don't
know if it's an intermittent problem, or if there are certain boot-time
factors that effect it.

My machine seems to have fans again. I don't know why.

its definitively intermittent.

ive had the following cases on th esame laptop different boot times:

- fan constantly on (cpu temp around 45C) acpi temp sensor not found

- fan constanly off (cpu temp around 67C) acpi temp sensor present

- fan working normally, (fan starts at 60C, and stops at 50C), acpi temp
sensor present.
