[Bug 293424] Re: intrepid: iwl3945 won't connect with WEP passphrase
I am also having a problem and I believe this bug is to blame. I have been running Xubuntu for two years on a ThinkPad X21, connecting to my Apple AirPort Graphite Base Station. I have never had issues connecting but since the last update 18 days ago all of a sudden the computer does not connect and I get the same dialog box that cactaur is getting above. I confirmed the hex string matches the Hex equivalent value in the AirPort software I run on my Mac, but I have never entered Hex before from the Ubuntu box -- I entered ASCII before. Why all of a sudden is it asking me to enter Hex? Seems like something got broken. Feel free to contact me for more info if needed. -- intrepid: iwl3945 won't connect with WEP passphrase https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/293424 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 293424] Re: intrepid: iwl3945 won't connect with WEP passphrase
Logs of the problem have been added. Additionally, whether the root cause is a driver issue should be further examined by someone more familiar with network issues. If it is a driver issue, then cactaur's comment could be a red herring. ** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu) Status: Incomplete => Confirmed -- intrepid: iwl3945 won't connect with WEP passphrase https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/293424 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 293424] Re: intrepid: iwl3945 won't connect with WEP passphrase
I'm also having this problem with a D-Link DWL-G520 card, which was supported perfectly with the atheros chipsets before I installed Intrepid. My Hardy install worked just fine with the network. Now, when I try to connect to the network, it prompts me for my password. I select the ASCII passphrase option. I enter in my five-character passcode and it shows the two lights turning green and trying to connect. However, it never manages to connect and it asks me for another password again. But this time, it has the 40/128-bit key entry selected, with a key I never put in. As per the triager request, I've attached a syslog describing the incident. I'll also attach a screenshot of the password prompt after a failed attempt. Additionally, when I try to edit the network profile manually in NetworkManager, I edit the profile, and for the key, I set it to WEP passphrase and put in the passphrase. When I close the window and open it again, it's right back at the 40/128-bit WEP key entry as if I hadn't done anything. It should also be noted that when I try to connect via command-line, dhclient doesn't act the way it should. To keep this comment from getting too long, output from dhclient can be found on the forum here: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1078097 . Apparently, Ubuntu receives a request from the router (192.168.0.197 is the ip address the dhcp server on the router assigns to my mac address) but doesn't accept it for some reason. I really hope this bug can get fixed cause my desktop is pretty important. Thanks! ** Attachment added: "Syslog output from NetworkManager while trying to connect to a WEP-passphrase enabled network." http://launchpadlibrarian.net/23024446/syslog.txt -- intrepid: iwl3945 won't connect with WEP passphrase https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/293424 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 293424] Re: intrepid: iwl3945 won't connect with WEP passphrase
I am experiencing the same issue. My home wireless network is D-Link router 802.11G. My ubuntu Laptop is a Lennovo R61i ThinkPad. The wireless driver is iwl3945. I have successfully used this laptop on open wireless networks and WPA secure networks at a local coffee house with no issues. However when I try to employ WEP 128-bit passphrase the setting flips to 40/128 bit key with my passphrase modified to a hex value. I too have an Apple Powerbook I have ran on this wireless network for well over a year using the WEP 128-bit passphrase encryption scheme with no issues. -- intrepid: iwl3945 won't connect with WEP passphrase https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/293424 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 293424] Re: intrepid: iwl3945 won't connect with WEP passphrase
Hello, I think this isn't driver issue. I'm on a non-apple Wifi G network (Neufbox Trio3D) with a ASUS F3JM (iwl3945) and am experiencing the same problem. After seeing this post, I tried the Wep to Hex conversion site http://www.corecoding.com/utilities/wep2hex.php and it worked with the "apple version" of the key ! "The KEYs for non apple computers/networks" -> "(104/128bit) hashed key" -> same key that is stored in my keyring, don't work "KEYs for apple networks or if the AP is a airport express" -> (104/128bit) key" -> Worked ! -- intrepid: iwl3945 won't connect with WEP passphrase https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/293424 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 293424] Re: intrepid: iwl3945 won't connect with WEP passphrase
NetworkManager, I believe. I just clicked the tray icon and selected the network. I duplicated this on my home Intrepid machine: 1. Add a new wireless network 2. Under Wireless Security, choose 'WEP 128-bit Passphrase' 3. Enter 'UToronto1home' as the passphrase (don't worry, the password is publicly available) 4. Click OK 5. Click Edit 6. Click 'Show password' The type has changed to 40/128-bit key and the key is '79877e4792ca29ee54ca6fd700' but according to my school (http://wireless.utoronto.ca/hex) the hex value should be '55546f726f6e746f31686f6d65'. -- intrepid: iwl3945 won't connect with WEP passphrase https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/293424 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
